The city of Springfield welcomes the
convention center, car park, and outdoor
plaza with a ribbon cutting ceremony.
It's been a project that's been in the
works for a while now. 22 News reporter
Oda live in studio with what visitors
can now expect.
Nick Sier, the community is quite
excited for a brand new car park and
outdoor plaza that will benefit
Springfield's downtown business district
and the locals who make it all possible.
The Massachusetts Convention Center
Authority hosts the grand opening of
Springfield's new car park and outdoor
plaza called The Landing. Elected
officials, partners, and community
members all gather for the event, which
includes a ribbon cutting ceremony.
Located at the corner of Harrison A and
Dwight Street, this $50 million project
includes five floors where the first
floor will be a retail space for
restaurants or stores, while the other
four floors are dedicated to over 800
parking spaces. It's just a great day.
It's a great day for Springfield. I
think it's a beginning of many things
that will continue to develop here. For
me, it was really a a gathering for the
community on a whole, creating an
objective that is uh community oriented,
uh pregame gatherings. The new
facilities are right on time for big
events at Mass Mutual Center, including
the Thunderbirds home opening game.
Visitors will also be in luck if you're
headed to the popular arena for WWE
Monday Night Raw in September. Partners
for the project include Mayor Dominic
Sarno, MGM Springfield, and several
other city officials. They say this will
create lots of jobs and be an economic
growth opportunity. The hope is to have
families and individuals enjoying the
muchneeded upgrade. you know, we had the
old garage there that was falling apart.
Like whole fours floors were closed. We
we end up selling out of uh of uh
weekends. We end up selling out of space
in the building uh because of, you know,
how well the team's doing. Uh so this
gives us like another asset in addition
to supporting the community.
The car park is now available to use and
includes electric vehicle stations. To
