🔰Sanders, Ocasio-Cortez rail against Trump policies at Tucson rally _ NewsNation Now
And the two leading voices against President Trump's agenda are taking their message and
their concerns to the southwestern part of the country.
It's called the Fighting Oligarchy Tour, and it's led by Senator Bernie Sanders and Congresswoman
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
The duo rallying in Arizona today, wrapping up just moments ago after speaking to packed
crowds in Colorado and Nevada this week.
News Nation's Mills Hayes joins us now with more.
So Mills, this is all getting a lot of attention.
What is the message they're working to send at these rallies?
Hi, Kelly.
Well, Sanders and AOC were very critical of money and politics.
In their eyes, President Trump and Elon Musk are turning our democracy into an oligarchy.
And an oligarchy is a form of government where a small group of people are in control, and
the ultra-rich have a lot of political influence.
Billionaire Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency has slashed thousands of federal
jobs and services for veterans and those on Social Security.
Vermont Independent Senator Bernie Sanders told NPR that you have to be blind to not
see what we have today, a government of the billionaires, by the billionaires, and for
the billionaires.
Today you got three people on top, Musk, Bezos, Zuckerberg, owning more wealth than the bottom
half of America, 170 million Americans.
Does that make sense to anybody?
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez told the crowd that the U.S. needs to be taxing the rich, establishing
guaranteed health care, and passing a living wage.
She argues that the minimum wage should cover the minimum cost to live.
And you deserve a government that fights to help you keep an affordable roof over your
head.
Our elected officials should take on abuse of corporate power everywhere that we find
it.
We must get big money out of politics and make clear that our country is not for sale.
U.S. Senator John Fetterman taking issue with AOC's claim that the Democrats aren't pushing
back hard enough against President Trump, saying on X Fight Harder, a stunt that would
have harmed millions and plunged us into chaos.
We kept our government open.
Deal with it.
Of course, he's talking about that funding bill.
Kelly.
Yeah.
Do they have a message, Mills, for more moderate Democrats in the party as well?
Well, they do.
While Sanders, he is an independent, remember AOC as well, both of them are known for being
progressives.
They're trying to present the Democratic Party as the party to fight for all Americans.
AOC told the crowd in Tucson that it doesn't matter who you voted for before, but if you
are willing to fight for someone you don't know, then you are welcome there.
AOC says that this fight, the oligarchy movement, is not about partisan labels or purity tests.
But about class solidarity.
Sanders called on the people to take on corporate greed.
In his eyes, there is an America that exists where the price of people's rent, prescription
drugs, and health care can be lower.
And while the Democratic Party's popularity has reached record lows, according to recent
polls, Sanders and AOC are hoping that these rallies and swing districts will help them
bounce back.
Kelly.
All right.
We'll wait and see.
Mills Hayes.
Thank you.
Thanks so much for watching.
