Major Arcana Only Tarot Decks - Powerful or Pointless? + VERY Rare Decks

Hi my tarot bumblebees, it's Ethony. Welcome back to my channel or hello if this is the very first time you are stopping by my tarot tube. I wanted to do something about the decks in our collection that only have major arcana cards in them. Like what is the point of them? Has anyone else thought that or is that just me? Or are you thinking like is that like a bagel on my head or is it hair? It's hair, trust me. It's my own hair actually. But I have had a very interesting relationship with major arcana only decks and I thought well maybe I'm not alone and how do I work with these decks in my collection and not just have them sitting there as I guess ornamental pretty things that aren't really used. So if you've ever wanted to dive into the major arcana solely or you have major arcana only decks in your collection and you want to use them, this is for you. Major arcana only decks are traditionally decks that have 22 cards. The 22 cards of the major arcana. My earrings being one of them which is the sun. Usually it begins with the four which is numbered zero and ends with the world. So these are decks that don't have any minor arcana cards in them. Some decks that aren't traditional so they don't fit the Rider Waite or the Thoth or the Marseilles system might have a couple of extra cards like things like I've seen Shadow and things like that added but they should have the 22 major arcana cards that are numbered and titled. I have definitely seen a lot of artists and creators do major arcana only decks to get funding to finish an entire deck or to have it as a collector's item but there aren't too many. I couldn't really see a ton that are on the market anymore but I am going to include some of them that are in my collection and in a rare rare treat because I do not do this usually, I'm going to show you some of the rarest decks I have in my collection that are actually major arcana only so stick around for that if you want to see some rare babies. But please be aware that that's going to be a little bit of FOMO because they aren't around I don't think anymore. These are decks that I've curated over the multiple decades that I've been reading the tarot so I apologize in advance if you get a bit of FOMO but if I can find where they come from I will put it in the description box. So let's build a case in tarot court for working with major arcana only decks. You can use a major arcana deck to really focus on the big picture themes in your life. If you want to find out the overall massive lessons, the universal truths, the big stuff at play which is what the major arcana is really focused on, then having a major arcana only deck to work with can take the everyday which is more connected to the minor arcana out of the equation and allow you just to focus on the major arcana. So you're really bringing the experience of your reading, instead of it being something that's everyday, you're actually expanding it out to allow for a larger perspective and connecting universal archetypes. Speaking of archetypes, the archetypal energy of major arcana cards is a wonderful way for you to actually learn about the archetypes that are connected to the major arcana cards and how they can play a role in your readings and for your clients. So it's a wonderful way for you to strengthen your connection to the cosmic consciousness as well. So it's a study in universal archetypes and how they impact every person's life. Especially wonderful if you are doing readings for other people or if you want to understand why you're getting stuck in a specific situation in your life or you keep repeating something, you might find that one of the archetypes in the major arcana is where you're stuck. So it's a great way to learn about a very practical application of these very large aspects of the tarot and how you can break it down to understand how it's playing out in your actual situation. Working with a major arcana only deck at the beginning is fantastic for beginners if they want to take the pressure off of the whole 78 card experience. When I'm teaching tarot I start with a major arcana and when I'm doing my classes I will spend more than one week working just with the major arcana. It's to allow the time for those big themes to sink in, for reflection to have some space and these are themes that are going to interplay through the rest of the readings and through the minor arcana because the major arcana can be shown in our daily lives through the experiences of the minor arcana. So that's why I spend so much time on it. So if you are a beginner it can be a great place to start to just say you know what I'm just going to work with these 22 cards and get familiar with them and then once you've got that down once you have that concrete foundation you can start expanding into the minor. And probably one of my favorite reasons to work with a major arcana only deck is to complement another deck. I use the major arcana decks in my collection in readings with another secondary deck that is complete with the 78 cards. I find this is a really great way to find the overarching theme, the overarching roadblock, the overarching energy, anything that is going to give me the bigger picture and allow me to see okay really what's going on here on a universal level. That's what I'm going to do most with my major arcana decks. Basically you can see it as the major arcana cards in that spread that you're doing or in the reading are the big picture and then you're going to have the second deck come in and yes some major arcana cards might show up in that reading as well but that's going to show you the whole picture. So it's a really wonderful way to get macrocosm and microcosm in your readings. I have created for you three different spreads that use the major arcana cards and that are ready for you to go and have fun with. You can find all of the text and layouts over on my blog and the link for that is going to be in the description box. I am also going to swap over the camera and show you some of the ways this can work. Now the reason why I'm doing this is because especially with two of the spreads I've created I'm using more than one deck so I want to show you the operation. I want to show you how it's actually done and how I would do it so that you're not confused as to what happens after a specific thing or what's supposed to be where. So I'm going to do that as well. So the first spread is a simple two card spread using the major arcana only so you're just going to need that major arcana deck and it's pretty straightforward but I will do a quick walkthrough of that. The second one and the third are using both so that's where I'm going to be showing you all of the walkthrough and the operations for those. Then I'm going to show you some of the major arcana only decks I have in my collection and ones I really love. I am many things a hairdresser is not one of them so my hair fell out but we're going to press on anyway so I've just pinned her up and we're just going to carry on there. So I apologize back to our regular scheduled program. Oh I wish I had the skill of a hairdresser. If you don't have any major arcana decks in your collection guess what it's really simple just take out the major arcana in your favorite deck and use that and most of us have more than one tarot deck so you can simply do that and then use a full 78 deck. You don't need to go out and stress and be like I need to go find all of the major arcana decks ever. You don't need to do that so that is just a reminder that you don't need to worry about going out and sourcing something specific. I'm sharing the decks that I am because these have I don't think ever been shared on YouTube and I've been on YouTube nearly 10 no 10 years. That's crazy and I wanted to show some of the stuff that I've gathered in my very long tarot journey. The Insarta tarot has got to be one of the rarest tarot decks in my collection. I oh my gosh I can't even remember when I got this deck. It is a specifically minor arcana only deck. It's by AGM from Switzerland and yeah it's in very good condition. I keep it usually in this beautiful pouch I got a million years ago and it's in a water safe container like a box because I'm very aware of how rare it is. It does come with a little booklet but I'm going to show you the deck first. So here is the back and it says here 1981 is the copyright for the art and as you can see this is a really detailed deck and the artwork is quite gorgeous. This is not in order um so you're going to have to bear with me on this one. This I believe is maybe the same artist as it reminds me of the Barbara Walker a little bit. I could be wrong but as you can see it is a highly detailed deck. This is a deck that for me is really about having it as a rare study deck in my collection. I don't read with it as in like I don't shuffle with it because I tend to riffle shuffle more than anything else and I don't want to wreck it. Lots of symbols in here very 80s late 70s early 80s uh fantasy art. It is a little macabre or a little dark but I'm definitely okay with that. That doesn't deter me from working with it or keeping it. This is a deck that I haven't seen. I think I've seen maybe Avalon Cameron has this deck. I'm not sure. I saw someone a few years ago on YouTube I think for a hot minute bring this out but I can't actually remember who it was. So as you can see it's got the zodiac sign of the planet very Egyptian based so it's very Toth based or Thoth based depending on how you say pronounce a word. Not the pronunciation police so but it is pretty spectacular and in the book it does have information here first published in German in 1985 and then first published in 1981. The cards are specially designed for the book Astrology and Tarot. There you go. Okay so we have the symbols and everything in here. A Tarot is a termed the book of Toth. In ancient Egypt Toth was a ruler of time corresponding with Saturn, Greek or Roman mythology. So this is a great mythology deck and there's a few ways to work with it. I have not actually worked in any with any of this. I really feel like I should and maybe find that Astrology and Tarot book too now that I'm looking at it but I haven't actually brought this out of storage in a long while because again this is I feel like you should be wearing like archival freaking gloves or something but that is the ah gentle doodle the Ansata Tarot Major Arcana. The next is another deck that is rarely brought out. It's also kept in storage. I did take it out of its original housing because I wanted to quickly have a look at it before I did this video but it has no um no titles on it. This is Monika Knighton's Tarot of the Stolen Child Tarot. This was the Major Arcana only. I believe it was on Indiegogo or Kickstarter and these are all watercolour prints. Now the full deck is now available so you do and it has titles um you can get that deck now mass market but this was the independent deck of just the majors um and I do not know what titles some of these are. Actually I don't know the titles of any of these which makes it a little bit difficult to use but I really want to just show this because like that's the moon um because firstly I love Monika's art and if you are seeing her art for the first time in this deck I really encourage you to go and check out the full deck. I think that's the full or the devil. I honestly I can't I can't remember. Some blanks. So beautiful. Maybe that one's a Hierophant. The buffalo. The hanged one. I believe that one is. That might be Temperance. Gosh fruit bats. Might be the devil. Oh yeah this one might be the world. Might be. I don't know. I can't remember. But aren't they gorgeous? Lots of endangered animals. This is the sun I believe. Nope that's the sun. Bethany just stop. Stop trying. But it is the Stolen Child Tarot um and this is a limited edition. This was number 280 of 500 and 2001. Holy. This is really really old but you can now go get the full set um mass market now. So I wanted to show them the mages in their original print form. So if you want to work with inner child stuff and the and a major arcana only deck then you may want to go get the full deck of this and pull out the mages. So this is the major arcana deck the Tarot of the the Peddeterian People by Leonard Narciso and this was from 2010 maybe and I got this from the creator from Thailand and I don't think I've ever seen anyone share this deck on YouTube. I don't know if this person still has a website. I don't know if this is still available. No idea but as I said I wanted to show some of my really rare major arcana decks as well um in this video and as you can see it's very fantasy um art you know fey elves these creatures of wings and nature and that's what I really loved about it. I was very into Neopets and things like that and fair I mean I'm still into fairies um so this was very up my alley and I was really hopeful that this would be turned into a full deck but it never got to be that way. I love this kind of reminds me of the archway presentation reminds me a little bit of the um Zeahunt stuff uh for like the children of Astara and Letha but aren't they beautiful? I'm pretty sure that Lepidion blah blah blah sorry can't pronounce it is about butterflies or wings when I looked it up a million years ago but it is so sweet. I have worked with this deck a bit um but it's like plastic coated almost um laminated so it has bowed a bit but I again I really wanted to to show because I promised I'd show some of the rarer decks in my collection. The Globalite Angelic Tarot by Penny Chesney is a hugely important impactful tarot deck for my journey. This deck is 25 years old so it was created in conjunction with the 2000 Total Lunar Eclipse and contained praise and advice about our life journey. I um purchased this deck when I was doing my aurasoma training to become an aurasoma consultant and that was over the years of 2005 and 2006 and so this was set 504. I have no idea how if this is available nothing no idea but I have a feeling that this was recommended to me um by my aurasoma teacher because of the color vibrations in the book so we have here the color vibrations um and this was very much connected to my aurasoma. I laminated these cards so this is the back. I laminated it because they didn't come laminated it was just card and they weren't rounded nothing so I didn't want to ruin it so they have a very old 25 year old um no way it would have been 20 years if I got this in 2005. A 20 year old lamination but look at the incredible art in this deck and I worked with this a stack when I was doing my aurasoma training and I worked with it for years and years and years and years and I'm not necessarily a angel person like I don't really have a lot of angel stuff but um I loved the the interpretation of the angelic forces. I had a very intense experience with an archangel um the one and only one I've ever had uh that's a story for another time but uh that was very intense and I like the way that they are depicted here in like more of like a vibrational energy without faces and as you can see like the devil card is called moderation all of the plants and the fruit and everything on the outside means something and this is one of my absolute favorite favorite favorite favorite major arcana decks of all time it is Australian um so you'll see like water brush and things like that but I don't think that means anything for people who aren't Australian I think you can get a lot out of it anyway all of the flowers are talked about in the book everything is broken down in the book and with the amount of information that's in this I just think it's so beautiful and again one of my favorites. I don't think this is on the market anymore um I would be shocked if it is and with a lot of these old ones that were independent please just be careful of maybe the website's up but and the paypal links are up but it doesn't necessarily mean that the person's there so just reach out to them before you do anything but this is a forever deck for me I'm so glad this video got me to bring it back out because I haven't worked with it for a hot minute so um yes the global light angelic tarot by Penny Chesney this one packs a powerful punch and I've worked with it for decades this is the feather and ink tarot major arcana deck another one I got a million years ago via Etsy and I'm really have no idea whether you can get this anymore I did go through a phase of getting a lot of major arcana cards and this is black and white and very large titles I've had this for I'm gonna say 15 years plus it might even be 20. I don't know if a full deck was ever done for the feather and ink I do remember a few people maybe when I was first like watching YouTube videos I don't know if it was when I was actually doing my own but I remember seeing this around and then nothing so again I'm sorry for the FOMO it's very simple but you know you're gonna get the roman numerals and the name like to the point yeah tell me if this is giving you just major FOMO if you're just like looking through like my rare decks because I have a ton of rare decks so then in these uh in this set you got a bunch of cards that um came with it so the astrology and all that kind of stuff so that was cute but um this is one that yeah I haven't seen around for a long long time um and it is another major only this was a goddess provisions um like trading card deck I love love the leather keeper and we are going to be getting a full deck which is very very exciting um I'm following um and uh over on social so I've seen like the breakdown of the colours that we're going to be getting on Kickstarter and it's happening this year so if you like the look of this then you're going to be stoked now these are meant to be trading cards which is why the name is quite large down the bottom and I'm really from what I've seen it's not going to be like that in the actual full deck thank goodness isn't it beautiful I'm so excited for the full deck very fantasy um based and I'm here for it being very much into fantasy I think it's going to do extremely well beautiful chariot so um if you're looking at this going oh my gosh I want it then you're in luck you're going to be able to back this on the starters of kick and get a copy beautiful fall who doesn't love the fantasy fairy tale um now I don't remember the name I will put the name in when the video is going up I'm so sorry I can't remember because I'm not sure if there was a working name when this came out but there is one now but I'll pop down below where you can follow the creator so you can be notified when it becomes available this is a major arcana only deck by kim huggins and nick phillips and this is the pistis sophia goddess tarot this is by red feather so I'm pretty sure you can probably still get a copies of this we have a beautiful orange back and really wonderful if you are looking to work with goddess energy and the major arcana and the intersection it does come with a full book so I will show that to you in a moment it's goddesses uh from around the world so it's nice and multicultural and again I don't see too many major arcana only decks on the market um this was gifted to me by um a lovely bumblebee so thank you you know who you are really gorgeous australian there okay so those are the cards and the book is really big so the book goes into a ton of information and we have um yongu australian aboriginal uh so talking about the dream time um and that's so cool here you've got so much information look at this like holy holy holy holy right like that is so much information so then we have nike I mean there's so much information in this book it's a beautiful study in goddess mythology and major arcana deck that you can work with now we're going to dive into the three major arcana spreads that I have created for you the first one is the archetypal insight tarot spread and this is just a quick two card spread um for looking at big picture stuff and how we can integrate the archetypes of the major arcana that are at play or influencing us that are coming up um and so that's how we're going to be working with this so for this spread you will only need a major arcana deck I'm going to use my globalite angelic tarot for this one and you're basically holding the energy of the archetypes and focusing on maybe the situation or the decision this is big stuff right um and then give it a shuffle now I'm shuffling very awkwardly because this is quite big so you give the deck a shuffle and then you're going to cut it however you want um you could choose them however you want I'm going to choose them this way so the first one is the archetype and I'm being asked to stop here and then the second one is the integration okay then we're going to pop those aside and flip them over here we have balance and the moon and in this deck balance is number eight but it is the card of justice in the regular tarot deck so we have justice and the moon and this is the archangel Aniel and the planet of Venus and it's a card of action and reaction and it's just this equilibrium state and we have the heart and the sword we have dolphins in the background there's a lot here to share with us in that space and it is the zodiac sign of zebra then we have the moon and the moon is the zodiac sign of Pisces and in the moon we have the owl and I'm just going to look up the angel in this one because it has been a hot minute since I've worked with this Gabrielle so Jupiter and there's lots in this as well so for this let's have a look at this in context of our spread so the first position is the archetype so what archetypal energy is in my life right now present in my life balance justice equilibrium so it's saying for me that Libra is playing a really big part in my life right now so I may look at this and go okay let's have a look at the house of Libra in my astrology chart or have a look at what Libra if I have any Libra in my chart and have a look at what's going on there for me because this is big cosmic stuff I might also be inclined to look at my relationships and whether I'm doing creating work-life balance around my relationships which is you know something I'm always striving to do so those are some of the ways that I might be looking at that and then the integration what lesson or aspect of the collective consciousness desires to be understood and integrated right now the moon for me this is really about intuition and trusting your guidance and understanding what is real and what is not real it's the space of lunar and dreams and reflection and what is really interesting about these two cards together is we have dolphins in both we have this moon in both and it's almost like we've zoomed in on this balance card and gone to a space of this full moon and we have someone out on a cliff on that full moon so for me with this space of Venus and Jupiter and we have the space of Libra and Pisces it's very much for me around dreams around my family or dreams around my relationships what dreams in the subconscious like the dreams I'm actually having but also dreams in the larger scope of what do I want for those things coming into play and so I would definitely sit with that and do some journaling around the conscious desires the collective conscious desires to be understood and integrated around the moon and how that can play into the key concept here of the justice card and the area of my life of relationships if that's the connection I was making so hopefully that helps having a look at a walkthrough of that spread the next spread that we're going to be doing is a four card spread and it is a spread that requires you to have two decks it's called the layered insight spread and you will need a major arcana only deck which I'm using this beautiful one here and a full tarot deck and I'm using my cosmic wisdom tarot so for our four card spread we're looking at the complementary energy for both decks to explore a single theme or question deeply alrighty so we're going to shuffle both decks and then we're going to alternate the draws and one by one while you hold the energy of the position in your consciousness so let's shuffle this deck first so I'm going to show you the operations here and here in this spread we're looking at the major theme the influence so what is influencing the same on a practical level the spiritual lesson and the step forward so given that a shuffle now I'm going to give hopefully I'm not rattling the camera too much so I'm not going to do a huge shuffle if you're working on this yourself please take as much time as you need but you give both of them a good shuffle while thinking about a big question or a question that requires quite a lot of contemplation and something that you want to explore deeply so I'm going to just cut the decks you can choose the cards however you would like and the first card is a major only so this is the overarching theme the tower we love that and then the second card if it's the tower I'm going to scream the second card is the influence the four of pentacles well at least it wasn't the tower and then the third card is the spiritual lesson the wheel of fortune and interesting that we have two three witches if that makes sense and then this step forward the two of wands okay so now let's have a look at how we interpret this reading we look at these two together and these two together so the major theme is the overarching theme or energy in my life the tower upheaval sudden shock things changing the aha moment all of those big energies and then here we look at what is influencing this on a practical level this is holding on to things the bringing together your physical practical energy and resources and holding on to them so this is really going if you're experiencing this loss of control which this is and often is on a physical level because the tower can represent long-term things that like establishments and things that have been built up over a long time of course you're going to want to hold on to it if you can feel this coming you know you're going to constrict yourself and this is really a lovely way of going okay well maybe I need to relax this more because this is remember the practical level of this card I need to relax this more so that I can allow the things that do not serve me to be taken out of my way and then the spiritual lesson here what lesson is tied to the theme we can look at well the wheel of fortune never stops it sometimes you're up sometimes you're down sometimes you're lucky sometimes you're not resources come in resources come out people come in people come out ideas change so this idea of free will and fate can sometimes also come into play with the three fates here so I like how these also connect together but then the step forward what step can I take to align with this lesson so we're looking at these two together now we have the planning stage so this is asking us to take a step back look at things from the big picture because we have this globe that we have the person looking at it don't panic and run ahead the two of wands is a seated person high above looking beyond like they if they wanted to if they weren't looking at the globe but that wand is fixed it's fixed actually to the balcony or whatever it may be and that's saying like you need to pause before you react with the changes that are happening and pausing to plan whether you are up on the wheel or you are down on the wheel is going to be a way in which you can relax this so that when big things like this happen and often the tower are moments that are beyond our control we at least have some backup plans and some ideas of going you know what some perspective here we're going to be okay so that is the layered insight tarot spread and I hope it has helped you seeing this spread in action and how to work with in your practice now we're going to work on our largest spread which is the dual wisdom tarot spread it is a six card tarot spread that integrates the macro level perspective of the major arcana with a micro level details of a full tarot deck so I'm going to be using the goddess deck the pista sofia major arcana and I'm working with the wonderful penumbra tarot for my second my second so for this one we are going to be shuffling around and we're going to be pulling three cards from the major and three cards from the actual full deck so again the three cards from our major so let's give this a shuffle are looking at major themes higher lessons and external forces all of those big things you will be absolutely shuffling them separately and hold the situation in your space in your energy okay and then cut the deck however you would like and we're going to put three cards out so strength the empress trying to make sure we've got room here and the mystic so the hanged one righty so then we're going to put that away now we're going to shuffle the full deck and these are the challenges the action and the outcome again I'm not going to do a huge amount of shuffling hopefully again I'm not knocking the okay and if I was doing this reading for myself or a client I would make sure that I was holding the situation or the question in my mind and in my energy as I did the shuffling okay so the crown of cups which is the queen of cups the world and I'm glad that a major arcana card came up because then we can look at this and the crown of pentacles the outcome which is the queen of pentacles so two court cards and a major arcana card so let's move through this spread together the major theme is strength okay you could go into um the saint perpetua um oh my gosh it reminds me of a movie I just watched but uh saint perpetua I don't know much about her but that she's a saint but strength that force card the card of grace but not backing down of having soft compassion but also a backbone so that's the major theme the higher lesson the higher lesson or spiritual insight presented to you the empress and I love this is kisi kodel and this is it's actually a goddess that um my coven worked with last year and one of our coven members is a is has got quite a lot of working knowledge with um this goddess and it's the empress and this really speaks to me about how as a parent as a mother as a someone who births something into life whether that is you know you're you're a mother yourself or you're doing other creative works you need to know when sometimes to be that soft compassionate force and sometimes you need to have those boundaries and be a little more rigid and I love how those two really work together in that and then the external forces here the influences at play that are really focusing on the situation now I don't have a situation in mind I didn't do that for this I was trying to give you an overview but the mystic the hanged one really talks about surrender right so sometimes we're not maybe going to get it right when we're using when we're trying to be compassionate or we're trying to parent or we're trying to bring something beautiful into the world and we have to be able to know that divine timing isn't always on our side that sometimes we need to surrender and allow things to take the time that they need and that really speaks to that mystic of the hanged one you know that suspension and change of perspective and letting things go and often that space is sacrifice of and what's interesting in this moments coming to me is that we are so used to instant gratification the sacrifice in this might be that we don't get things instantly we have to just prepare to wait and so many of us don't want to wait so let's have a look at our bottom line here so the challenges the full deck the challenge obstacle you must overcome or navigate the crown of cups the queen of cups is the zodiac sign of cancer and in a lot of decks she has a cup that's covered and this is really saying like the seat of your emotions the nurturing of your emotions might be getting a little stagnant in this challenge position because we're looking at this from the perspective of challenge so really time to stir those emotions and maybe do something that brings a little bit of change that emotional state maybe you need to cry delve into the well of unshed tears and move that so you can move any emotional stagnation with the zodiac sign of cancer we're also looking at how to soften ourselves you know the crab has got that shell so are we protecting ourselves but really pushing people away the action even though it's a full deck this is the world and this is really calling to that big picture you're about to enter into that new phase and because this is meant to be the immediate action to help you overcome obstacles this really speaks to me of moving away from the past or the successes and things that you've done in the past and really focusing on the new because the world is completion but the world is also like taking a moment to breathe and maybe this is about celebrating the now and not waiting for a good time or an important situation or an important event like a birthday or whatever it may be to do something fun or to bring out the the nice china as i would say back in the day but if you do get a major arcana card in this spread or in any of them when you're using both decks really having a look at the don't look at it from the top heavy which we're looking at here that macro expression looking at from the micro expression the everyday expression this could be celebration like i said of a birthday or a celebration and celebrate with your loved ones now the outcome the crown of pentacles queen of pentacles the potential outcome if you follow the cards guidance we still have this beautiful nurturing energy of the crown or the queen and this is really about the space of being being just allowing yourself to enjoy the good things and healing yourself through connection with the people in your life abundance sharing your abundance with others which you know we hit here on the empress and the world as well and enjoying the space and time it is the zodiac sign of capricorn which is also very connected to the material realm so enjoying the material and how these two sync up as well with the world being a part of the material is pretty wonderful so if you're able to nurture your emotions enjoy the now and share your resources you're going to heal everyone around you and really foster all of this right the the right force or you know sometimes it doesn't have to be serious all the time you can enjoy the good times you can create or be a parent and forgive yourself if you're not always doing things at the right time and then also changing your perspective so i know this is a larger spread and if you're doing it for yourself and really taking the time it can take a bit of digging into but that's the
