Hello everyone, this is Minji and welcome back to Easy Korean Parents.
Today, you're going to learn how to say I am good at blah blah in Korean.
Let's get started.
So in English, when you say this sentence, I am good at something something,
you can just conjugate verbs by putting I and G, right?
I am good at singing or I am good at dancing.
But in Korean, it's a little bit different because there are two ways of saying that.
Two ways.
So it might be confusing, but I'll break it down really slowly.
So don't worry about it.
And why don't you take a look at this.
Noun plus 을 or 를 잘해요.
This is the first sentence parent that we are going to learn.
을 를 잘해요.
It is okay if you can't understand nothing.
Just please speak it out loud so that you can get used to the sound first.
을 를 잘해요.
And the second sentence parent that we are going to learn is this.
잘 plus present conjugation of verbs.
잘 plus verb.
So from now on, we are going to learn the first sentence parent.
This parent is usually used when the verb is blah blah 하다 form.
Blah blah 하다.
Let's find out how to form sentences with this rule.
So the parent is noun plus 을 를 잘해요.
Noun plus 을 를 잘해요.
So this noun is going to be what you would like to say.
You can use whatever nouns that you want to use and then you can put 을 or 를.
So why is it about noun suddenly?
Why?
Isn't it weird?
Told you a few minutes ago that this parent is usually used when the verb is blah blah 하다 form.
So why is that?
Actually, this noun is from that verb.
If the verb is blah blah 하다 form, the blank, that blah blah is also a noun at the same time.
I mean, if you take out of 하다 from this verb and it still makes sense as a noun.
So in this case, you can use this parent.
So it seems to be very complicated, but actually it isn't.
If you practice with a lot of examples, you will understand.
So how do you say I am good at singing in Korean?
Look at this verb.
노래하다.
노래하다 means to sing.
And as you can see, its form is blah blah 하다.
It ends with 하다.
And if you take out 하다, that would be 노래, right?
노래.
Only 노래 remains.
노래.
And 노래 is a noun which means song or music.
So both of them exist in Korean language.
노래하다 or 노래 makes sense.
So you can use this parent.
So what is noun?
Noun here is, of course, 노래.
So you have to put 노래 into this parent.
So it would be 노래를 잘해요.
노래를 잘해요.
It means to be good at singing.
So you have to put I am again.
So it would be 저는 노래를 잘해요.
저는 노래를 잘해요.
Which means I am good at singing.
Because 저는 is a polite form for I am.
저는 노래를 잘해요.
You can say 를 잘해요, right?
This is a parent which means to be good at.
And 노래 is a song.
So 저는 노래를 잘해요.
Means I am good at singing.
And in informal form, you can say 나는 노래를 잘해.
나는 노래를 잘해.
나는 is a casual and informal form for I am.
And 잘해 is also a casual form.
나는 노래를 잘해.
And 저는 노래를 잘해요.
All right.
And 잘해요.
And 잘해 is from the verb 잘하다.
잘하다.
Sorry.
잘하다.
This is a basic form that you can see in the dictionary.
잘하다.
And it means to do something very well.
It's very outstanding and you are better than anyone.
So this parent is saying with the English one to be good at something.
Also 노래, 노래.
If the noun ends with a vowel, you have to choose 를, 를.
Like 노래를, 노래를, 노래를.
On the other hand, if the noun ends with a consonant, you have to choose 을, 을.
Let's take a look at this verb.
수영하다.
It means to swim.
수영하다.
And you can see its form is blah, blah, 하다, right?
수영하다.
And if you take out of 하다, that would be its noun form.
수영, 수영.
수영 is swimming and 수영하다 means to swim.
So what is I am good at swimming in Korean?
You have to use the noun 수영 for this parent, right?
수영.
So you can say, 저는 수영을 잘해요.
저는 수영을 잘해요.
수영 ends with a consonant, 이응, 응 sound.
수영, 영.
So you have to choose 을, 수영을, 수영을, 수영을.
Once again, please speak it out loud.
저는 수영을 잘해요.
This is a formal sentence, right?
And in informal, you can say, 나는, 나는 수영을 잘해.
나는 수영을 잘해.
So it still seems to be very complicated, right?
I could have just explained that you can use any verbs that end with a 하다 for this parent.
But the reason why I explained that you have to take out of 하다
and then check if the remaining thing is a noun or not
is that sometimes if you take out of 하다, it doesn't make any sense.
For example, 미워하다, 미워하다.
There is a 하다.
미워하다, it means to hate somebody, hate.
미워하다.
But 미워 is not a noun.
So you can't say, 저는 미워를 잘해요.
Like, I'm good at hating people.
저는 미워를 잘해요.
It doesn't make any sense.
But don't worry about it.
Just don't be panicked because when it comes to the basic Korean verbs that have 하다 ending,
it is okay to just take out of 하다 and use that noun without even thinking.
Most cases, it'll make sense.
For example, 운전하다. 운전하다 means to drive.
Just take out of 하다.
That would be 운전. 운전 is driving.
So you can say, 저는 운전을 잘해요.
I'm good at driving.
저는 운전을 잘해요.
And what is casual form in formal language?
나는, I am, 나는 운전을 잘해.
I'm good at driving.
나는 운전을 잘해.
Also, 요리하다. 요리하다. 요리하다 means to cook and take out of 하다.
And 요리, 요리 means cooking.
요리하다, 요리. 요리하다, 요리.
So you can say, 저는 요리를 잘해요.
I'm good at cooking.
저는 요리를, 요리를 잘해요.
저는 요리를 잘해요.
And in informal form, you can say, 나는 요리를 잘해.
나는 요리를 잘해.
All right.
Let's move on to the next.
How do you say this sentence with pronouns?
Like, he's good at something or she's good at something.
Well, you might say that he is 그 and she is 그녀 in Korean.
그 or 그녀.
But actually, they sound really weird and awkward.
So Koreans don't use them in spoken language.
그 or 그녀.
We never use that.
Instead of using them, you can say, 그분, 그분 for formal and 개 for informal.
그분, 그분 and 개, 개.
개 is a shortened form of 그의, 그의, which means that child or the child.
개, 개.
Both of them could be he or she, depending on the context.
I'll make a video about that in the future.
Anyway, let's practice with these pronouns.
Okay.
Let's take a look at this verb.
운동하다.
Can you guess what it means?
운동하다.
Yeah, it means to exercise.
운동하다.
And its form is blah, blah, 하다, right?
There is 하다.
And if you take out of 하다, that would be 운동, 운동, which means exercising.
운동, 운동.
And it ends with a consonant ㅇ, right?
운동, 운동.
So you have to attach 을.
So it would be 운동을 잘해요 and 운동을 잘해.
So how do you say he or she is good at exercising?
In formal phrase, polite form, you can say 그분은 운동을 잘해요.
But in this case, 그분 is very polite form.
So you have to change 잘해요 into 잘하세요.
It's more polite.
So it would be 그분은 운동을 잘하세요.
그분은 운동을 잘하세요.
He or she is good at exercising.
그분은 운동을 잘하세요.
Also, in informal phrase, you can say 걔는 운동을 잘해.
걔는 운동을 잘해.
Great.
Is it okay so far?
I hope it's not that too difficult.
Please keep in mind that if you know the verb is blah blah 하다 form,
just take out of 하다 and attach 을, 를, 잘해요 or 잘해 at certain noun.
Please remember that noun plus 을, 를, 잘해요 and noun plus 을, 를, 잘해.
All right.
Let's move on to the next parent.
Look at this.
You can also say 잘 plus present form of verbs.
And of course, it is used when the verb is not blah blah 하다 form.
잘 plus verb.
잘 plus present form of verb.
잘.
잘 blah blah blah.
And the present form of verbs, you know, how to conjugate Korean verbs in present tense.
I already made a video about that.
Here or click here, here.
Please check it out if you don't know about it.
So 잘 here means well.
And look at this verb.
먹다.
Which means to eat.
And its present conjugation is 먹어요 for former and 먹어 for informer, right?
So you can say 잘 먹어요 or 잘 먹어.
To be good at eating.
잘 먹어요 or 잘 먹어.
So if you say 저는 매운 음식을 잘 먹어요.
It means I am good at eating spicy food.
저는, I am 매운 음식, spicy food 잘 먹어요 to be good at.
So 저는 매운 음식을 잘 먹어요.
저는 매운 음식을 잘 먹어요.
And in casual way, you can say 나는 매운 음식을 잘 먹어.
나는 매운 음식을 잘 먹어.
Good.
What about this verb?
쓰다.
It's not 하다 form, so you have to use the number two pattern.
쓰다 means to use, to write or to wear.
쓰다.
And its present conjugation is 써요 for former and 써 for informer.
So you can say 잘 써요 or 잘 써.
잘 써요 or 잘 써.
So if you say 저는 글씨를 잘 써요.
저는 글씨를 잘 써요.
It means I am good at handwriting or I have good handwriting.
글씨 means letter or handwriting.
And 잘 써요, I am good at writing in this context.
So it means I am good at handwriting.
저는 글씨를 잘 써요.
And of course, in casual way, in informer language, 반말, you can say 나는 글씨를 잘 써.
Alright, that's it for today.
Thank you so much for watching.
Actually, I am a little bit worried that it's too difficult to you.
But please, please keep in mind that there are two ways of saying I am good at in Korean.
If the verb is blah blah 하다, you have to take out 하다 and then put 을 or 를, 잘해요 or 잘해, right?
And if the verb is not blah blah 하다 form, just put 잘 and then present conjugation of the verbs.
So I hope you guys like this video and I'll see you guys in the next time.
그럼 다음 시간에 봐요.
Bye bye.
Thank you so much for watching.
안녕.
See you next time.
