This summer, Interior expanded recreational access and helped drive down energy costs. Lower gas prices put more money back in your wallet, and we’re carrying that momentum into fall.
This is Inside Interior. Labor Day marked the end of summer and at the Department of the Interior
that meant more park visits and the lowest gas prices in half a decade. We've been working hard
to make your summer great from expanding recreational access to driving down energy
costs. The impact? Low gas prices have put more money back in your wallet. In conservation news,
the department will soon be reconstituting the Hunting and Shooting Sports Conservation and
Access Council to expand access to recreational sports and strengthen wildlife partnerships
across all levels of government while honoring America's hunting heritage. Back under Nation's
Capitol, public safety remains a top priority. The Make D.C. Safe and Beautiful Task Force is
producing real results. Violent crime in Washington D.C. is down 40 percent. Carjackings have dropped
82 percent. Over 1,700 arrests and 170 illegal firearms have been seized. Thanks to interagency
coordination, especially with the U.S. Park Police, these efforts are making communities safer.
Secretary Burgum joined Miranda Devine on New York Post's podcast, POG Force One,
where they discussed unleashing American energy and energy's role in the A.I. arms race.
So again, we need the whole of government to make sure that we're both here and abroad,
ensuring that we've got energy dominance does prosperity at home. And as you said,
it does lead to peace abroad. It is part of national security. He also joined Fox Business
to continue to champion this administration's energy dominance agenda. We're putting the
sanctions on Russia and we're creating everything we could do to be selling more energy. Both Energy
Secretary Chris Wright and I are going to be in Europe next week at the largest gas conference
in Europe. We're going to be over there looking for customers and looking for opportunities for
American companies to sign deals with European partners. In addition, the U.S. Geological Survey
just released a new national mineral lab supporting domestic mining and energy development.
And Secretary Burgum met with Malta's deputy prime minister to discuss U.S. energy exports.
Finally, Secretary Burgum, along with the White House Office of Intergovernmental Affairs Director
Alex Meyer, held the interagency group on insular areas right here in the Department of the Interior.
This vital group ensures that the voices of America's territories are not only heard,
but their needs are met. That's all for this week's Inside Interior.
