Lando Norris won his sixth DHL Fastest Lap award of 2025 at the Italian Grand Prix on a weekend
where he looked strong in practice at Monza, but was bested when it mattered by defending
champion Max Verstappen. Looking to bounce back after his disappointing DNF in Zandvoort,
Norris topped second and third practice and crucially was faster than title rival
and McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri across the weekend. And in qualifying he looked set for pole
only for Max to steal it at the death by just seven hundredths.
At Lights Out it was a fight to the first chicane. Lando on the grass at one point
and Max cutting the corner, giving away P1 at the next opportunity to avoid a potential penalty.
But soon the four-time world champion was back in front and was never troubled,
winning his third Italian Grand Prix by almost 20 seconds.
The chasing McLarens had their own private drama later on when a slow pit stop cost
Lando track position to Oscar, but team orders saw the switch reversed
and Norris led his teammate home for a papaya double podium.
It was on the final lap that the Briton put in the fastest tour of this legendary circuit,
completing the first sector in 26.810, the second in 27.381 and the last in 26.710
for a time over the line of 1 minute 20, 9.01. So that means Norris takes the outright lead
in this year's DHL fastest lap award. Next stop, Baku.
