In this video, we're going to be going over the first episode of the Lord of the Mysteries, Donghun.
We're going to do a full recap plus everything that they skipped over while making this episode.
Let's get straight into it.
This first episode covers 16 chapters from the original source material, which is the novel,
which is around what we expected it to be.
And I feel like that is a very solid pace that they should have kept throughout the second episode
and hopefully what they will do for future episodes.
But that is a critique that we will touch on a bit later on.
Now, the episode starts out just how you expect it to be with Klein,
and a bunch of crazy visuals.
The animation straight off the bat is absolute cinema.
But anyways, let's put bias aside.
He wakes up. He gets transmigrated.
He tries to figure out what the hell is going on.
And we get our first glimpse at Melissa.
Melissa walks in, interrupts him.
And this is all following the source material.
Nothing much changed here.
It is a bit quick, but there's no problem with that whatsoever.
Nobody really wants to hear him talk for five minutes straight, right?
This is where the anime does its first cut.
It cuts out an entire chapter of Klein buying bread.
Now, this is a choice I completely agree with.
And I think it is absolutely good and crucial that they cut this out
because as a new watcher, if I'm watching this and I see Klein buying bread for a whole ten minutes,
I'm gonna freak the hell out.
I'm gonna freak the hell out and I'm not gonna watch.
So I'm really glad they cut this part out.
They cut straight to him buying the bread, talking to Lady for just one minute.
And they already show Leonard and the hint towards Inzangwill.
They show Leonard stalking Klein because him and Dunn are investigating the case.
Of where three civilians shot themselves after getting into contact with a mystical artifact.
Klein being one of them, but Jun Mingrui did get into his body.
Now, Klein buys his bread and then gets a divination.
Gets randomly, when he's trying to escape from Leonard,
goes into this tent and gets a divination performed by him by a lady.
Now, he gets the choice between choosing three different cards.
He gets the past, the present, and the future.
Now, he first chooses the present and he draws the fool card.
And oh boy, oh boy.
Those who have read Lord of the Mysteries just know how hype that is.
That was great to see.
They did that very well.
The animations, again, is beautiful.
The lady herself was very beautiful.
The real lady comes in.
She stops the thing.
She was like, wait, you're not even a proper divinator.
You can't be doing this.
And Klein quickly runs away as Leonard tries to, you know, catch him once again by surprise and interrogate him.
Klein runs back home and tries the ritual.
I like the pacing this again because it skips straight to him trying it, right?
Now, yes, it may feel a bit confusing for new watchers, but it is simply a necessity.
Lord of the Mysteries starts out very confusing.
But that is the whole point of Lord of the Mysteries.
You are experiencing for the first time with Klein ready.
Anyways, he does the ritual, but it doesn't go as planned.
Instead of going back to his world, he instead gets into this weird gray fog and he pulls two people with him.
A noble girl called Audrey Hall and an experienced pirate called Algar Wilson.
Now, these are two completely random people from opposite corners of the earth,
and he accidentally pulled them there with his own power from this ritual.
Now, that makes them two think that he is some kind of upper deity.
So they start referring to him as sir and, you know, what should we call you, etc.
Because he thinks he pulled them there on purpose.
And he gives the name when they ask him for his name of Mr. Fool.
And I love that. They adapted that so well in anime.
They adapted everything about the Sapphire Castle and the meeting so perfectly
because in the source material, it's a bit hard to tell when Klein is, for example,
blocking out sound from one conversation to another
or when he's changing his voice to sound more menacing and sound more like a god.
But here we have a perfect example of Klein talking normally in his head
and then how he projects himself onto the others with his very deep and masculine voice, right?
Trying to appear like some kind of upper deity.
So I really enjoyed that small detail in the anime as well.
Now, yeah, he sets up the meeting.
Algar and Audrey end up doing a trade with each other, which all proceeds as usual.
But there was just one translation error that I really disliked with the anime.
When Algar gives Audrey the two choices that he has,
he has Sailor Sequence 9 and he has Spectator.
The name is Spectator, guys. It is not Audience.
And he calls it Audience.
And that just—it's kind of like, nah, that's not really the name, is it?
So, yeah, anyways, that's a small translation error.
I hope they fix it in future things because Audrey is never going to be a Sequence 9 audience.
No, she's a Sequence 9 Spectator, right?
So, yeah, then the two official Beyonders pull up and it is Dun and Leonard.
Now, after the whole glint in his eye, and I love that subtle foreshadowing for his powers,
they ask him a bunch of questions. Klein answers truthfully.
He gives up where the revolver is that he used to shoot himself
and he claims that he lost all his memories, etc.
Now, the issue arises in the fact that they want him to pass a psychic verification.
They want to use a spirit medium in order to extract his memories
to see what truly happened if he can't remember them,
which, you know, they believe him,
but they still want to verify if maybe subconsciously he remembers something.
Now, this is an issue because Klein doesn't want anyone figuring out
that he's not actually from this world and that he transmigrated from a different world.
So he quickly uses a chance to run away.
As he's running, very strange things start to happen around him, right?
The water falls on him and it suddenly stops in the air
and then a wall just starts to, you know, go over him
and it's very confusing for new watchers, for example,
if you're watching this video for the first time,
but then it is revealed that this is all Captain Dunn's power.
Klein never left his bedroom this entire time.
He saw that Klein is an innocent man,
but he definitely is hiding something subconsciously,
so he gets a spirit medium to help him out.
Now, what Klein doesn't know is that the spirit medium is already at the same place as them
and she absolutely shocks him in some of the sort of horror elements
that eludes him will excel in later on
and she tries to extract memories from him,
but he realizes that he can stay lucid during this.
Normally, someone can't stay lucid during these points.
Even when Dunn was pulling him into the dream,
Klein was able to still maintain rationality and sort of hide things from them
and this is a trait that he believes that he got from transmigration
and again, this is all following the source material super well.
Now, after that, yeah, that's it.
She verifies that there's nothing that he's hiding
or that some kind of mystical force is preventing them from seeing anything that truly happened to him
and that is the end of the first episode
and that is pretty much exactly what happens in the source material.
I'm extremely, extremely happy with this first episode.
Everything from the animation to following the source material
to not changing it too much to not going too fast while keeping it interesting.
It is all absolutely beautiful while changing these minor things to help out the pacing.
Man, I have no complaints.
The first episode is an absolute 10 out of 10
and yeah, let me know.
I'm gonna cover the second episode soon
and then I'm gonna drop a video on why the pacing might be an issue.
If things continue as they did in the second episode,
why things might take a bad turn for Lord of the Mysteries
and why it might potentially flop.
Regardless, have a nice day everyone.
Love you guys and hopefully we will be back.
I'll be streaming on Twitch every week the episode
