So welcome to Burley House in Lincolnshire which is a very famous country house
and the home of William Cecil who was the first Lord of Burley
from 1520 to 1598 and he was the Lord High Treasurer to Queen Elizabeth I.
So a very very important person and we're going to do a tour of the house today. We probably won't
be able to film inside the house but we'll do a tour of the gardens. We'll get to film a bit there.
But a really stunning place just off the A1 at Stamford.
You've got to come and film this. It keeps coming and going.
Amazing effect isn't it?
It's a giant lava lamp.
Burley House even in Lincolnshire, the ancestral home of the Dukes of Exeter,
Earls of Exeter. Basically it's William Cecil's ancestral seat. William Cecil of course was
Chief Advisor to Queen Elizabeth I and when she was a young monarch gave her lots of advice about
things like the opposition she was going to face from the Catholic Church, the need to bring
Protestants and Catholics together which is something that Elizabeth did initially but
there were so many plots against her, particularly the one, the famous one, which was the Mary Queen
of Scots plot, that eventually she realised she had to crack down on the Catholics which is what
she did and so Catholics were arrested all over the country and Catholicism was effectively outlawed
in Britain. So this is the house through the railings. It's an absolutely amazing place,
beautiful. Some of the frescoes are absolutely amazing in the rooms as well.
So it's well worth a visit and the gardens are amazing but it is very hot today, very very hot.
