[Music]
so
[Music]
okay i'm here at the property
[Music]
and i'm thinking about this flat area
right here
for the cabin
[Music]
so the well is staked out
over here
not sure if you can see that
that stake
right about there
so the trucks are going to need to have
access through here
and then up here
in to the road
so
if i place the cabin over here it'll be
out of the way
i'm thinking right in front of this
[Music]
pile of logs right there
nice and flat
got a nice backdrop
[Music]
and easy access to the road
[Music]
so let me go ahead and get this staked
out
[Music]
[Music]
[Music]
so
[Music]
so
[Music]
[Music]
so
[Music]
so
[Music]
so
[Music]
so the frost line here is only six
inches
um there's nowhere
uh that deep anywhere in california even
in northern most parts of california
the frost line is only 10 inches
so right here it's six inches
so i only have to go down
about 12 inches to get below the frost
line so that's what i'm doing
okay i've got these composite post pads
here foundation pads so i need to
dig my hole
round enough or wide enough so that i
can fit this in and then my post will
sit on top
[Music]
all right there's my pad
i'm down 12 inches
or there about i know it's lower than
six inches
so this one is ready for
the post
all right i've got all of my
post holes dug
got my foundation pads in
[Music]
this will give you an idea of
what the size is going to be
[Music]
these aren't uh perfectly square but uh
that's okay i'll be able to get the
posts
square before i backfill them
all right
go grab some posts
all right i've just got the poles laying
in there right now they're not back
filled or secure
[Music]
but they're
pretty close to being in line
so i'll make sure that they're nice and
plumb
the right distance apart before i uh
backfill them
so now what i need to do is
find my level line and
cut these to size
[Music]
[Music]
[Music]
all right let's see how
close i got
[Music]
it's pretty close
i'm gonna see if i can get it a little
bit better than that
[Applause]
so
[Music]
i think that's pretty good
so these posts right here
are going to be what i
set all the other posts off of
[Music]
so
[Music]
[Music]
[Music]
hope i remember to bring my chisel
oh that's a no on the chisel
hopefully this screwdriver will do the
trick
[Music]
all right well
a screwdriver is not perfect but uh
i guess i got the job done
let me flip it over and do the other
side
[Music]
[Music]
okay so what i've done is i've
made a shelf on two sides
for my two by eights to rest on as they
wrap around the corner
i'll have to do that to each of the
corners
and then just one side on the two center
pieces
so let me get to
another one
okay everywhere that i made a cut
on those treated six by sixes
i want to uh paint
with this wood life copper coat
[Music]
so this is uh
another method of
treating uh
any kind of uh
untreated wood
so let me go ahead and get that on there
[Music]
do
[Music]
[Music]
[Music]
okay
[Music]
okay i just wanted to uh you know any
any time you're working with treated
lumber and you cut make some cuts that
expose
a side or an end you should
treat it with that copper coat that's
what i'm going to do that way my entire
foundation posts
are
are treated
[Music]
i went ahead and attached
this rim joist
with some lag screws
and i'm still deciding if i want to put
a third one in the center there i don't
know
we'll see maybe i will
but i wanted to get that attached to get
everything plumbed so i at least have
one side that is plumb
and level and attached
and the rim joist
on the front and the rear i want it
covering the end grain of the sides
that's why i
cut an additional three inches off
and flushed it up
with the edge right there
so this will give you an idea
of the size it's going to be 8
by 16
which uh
if they go by the interior
is less than 120 square feet if they go
by the exterior
just a little bit over
um i don't think that that's going to be
an issue i'm pretty sure they go by the
interior
so this is
something that i can build
without a permit
all right that's going to do it for this
video
so i'll talk to you guys later
[Music]
you
