If somebody is coming at you, attacking
and slicing like a maniac.
>> Yes.
>> How can you defend yourself?
>> You hit them first.
>> Okay.
>> That's why fighting, if you're going to
protect yourself in any kind of
self-defense, if you're not hitting, you
are not winning.
>> Wow. Okay. That is like karate kid.
[clears throat] Strike first, strike
hard,
>> they're just going to go crazy like the
question that WAS GIVEN,
>> RIGHT? [laughter]
I love how he's like HE WILL GO CRAZY
like the question that you just asked.
Like bro, what is this question even
about? Like are you questioning this
insane martial arts? Don't disrespect
Filipino martial arts. What's up
Philippines? Welcome back to another
video with your host Nelly. I'm so happy
about today's video because it is
something that I can relate to a lot.
We're going to react to do Filipino
martial arts work in a real fight and
we're talking about the Filipino martial
art which looks so interesting. I
personally did karate for many many
years. I started when I was 11 years
old. I am a black belt believe it or not
proof here. And I've always been
interested in martial arts. And when I
heard about Filipino martial arts, I was
like so intrigued and just wanted to see
what it is about. and I almost tried it
but then pmic hit and yeah but never say
never. I wanted to see this video with
you guys today just to see what it is
about. And if you're new to this
channel, I'm Nelly. I've lived in the
Philippines for many years and started
this reaction channel during the
pandemic and you guys kept loving it. I
kept doing videos and yeah, we learn new
things. We love together and we are
shocked together. So if you are new,
please subscribe. Without further ado, I
would say let's jump into this video.
>> What if I do that? Yeah. See? And back.
Now, unless I Now, watch this one. Okay,
>> I'm going to do something different.
[music] Ready?
>> If somebody is coming at you, attacking
and slicing like a maniac.
>> Yes.
>> How can you defend yourself?
>> You hit him first.
>> Okay.
>> That's why fighting, if you're going to
protect yourself in any kind of
self-defense, if you're not hitting, you
are not winning.
>> Wow. Okay. That is like Karate Kid
strike first strike hard. [laughter]
Huge fan of that movie. Like I used to
watch all of the martial arts movies
from Czech Norris, Jeanclaude Vanam,
Karate Kid, all of them. I wanted to
become a ninja when I was a kid. So
yeah,
>> you're not defending yourself.
Okay. So if here, let me give you an
example.
>> Okay.
Look, I would attack knight tapping.
Like if if I attack her.
>> Whoa.
>> Because that's how people would attack
with the Yeah. See, and they have to
work on that. And what we did is night
tapping. It's called sensitivity drill.
She has to follow where this is at any
given time. That will do. Th this these
are some of the stuff that they will do.
They will come up this way.
>> That's insane.
>> And they have to follow until they can.
But that's the drills that we do. It's
not going to happen that way. If I do
this, if you hit first, boom. Now that
strike was supposed to be on my face.
Okay. So, the strike to the forehead,
that will make me go what?
>> Whoa.
>> Now, then she can do whatever she needs
to do. Got to continue. Go. Continue.
Go.
>> Okay. And then now, do you notice she
can use me as a shield for whoever is
next? Cuz most of the time attack will
be done by multiple opponent. So that's
why you rotate.
>> Okay. First of all, wow, that girl is
badass. I love it. Like she's so fast
with her hands. And I tried something
similar which is called wing tong, which
is a form of kung fu. And I remember
going to the first class, it was all
about just these fast movements. It's
basically just redirecting energy from
your opponent and using it against him.
So when I did it, I was so confused
because you had to like really get into
this flow. Ah, getting goosebumps or
just thinking about it. Getting into
this flow and it's really so fast that
you hit so many times. The next day my
underarms were blue. Like so blue. I had
bruises everywhere. And then I decided,
okay, maybe this is not for me.
>> A rapid attack like that, the key is you
have to be hitting. If you're not
hitting, I didn't say you're not going
to get cut, right? If you go against
somebody with a weapon or any kind,
you're you are going to get, but it's
much better if you're hitting. Your
chances are higher if you're hitting,
not when you're
>> blocking. Sometimes when you see
Filipino martial artists train, it looks
so extravagant and people sometimes call
it bullshidto or like it's a joke.
>> Why do you think it is that some people
think that it wouldn't be real? And what
is it about it that is very good for
self-defense
>> for the Filipino martial? In the
Filipino, we have a lot of drills like
this to develop the attributes that you
need that what if I do the go react.
What if I do this? Okay. And back. Go
ahead. Continue. Go. What if I do that?
Yeah. See? And back. Now, unless I Now,
watch this one. Okay.
>> Okay. Just [clears throat] from somebody
who knows how martial art works, this is
really effective. Like, you can really
see the energy is being redirected as
well. Movements are very fast. It's very
intuitive. Versus with boxing or karate,
it's very straight forward like, you
know, you can see the punch coming from
far away, I would say. Versus with this
one, you don't see it because the
movement is just happening in front of
you. It's a very short range of movement
that you do, which makes a big
difference in self-defense. Makes a huge
difference if you go like this or just
like
I'm going to do something different.
Ready
now? Because I did it once.
Now watch.
Now, see, she was looking for that one.
Okay. It's almost [laughter] you can't
fight somebody dirty
>> unless you know the art of
>> dirty fighting.
>> So you gota put So our goal is this.
When pe when we train,
>> it's not always she's going to be ready
out there if she trains with me all the
time because one, we both know the flow,
right? Mhm.
>> But where she's going to learn more is
when when she worked with new people.
>> Mhm.
>> When she teach new people when another
person that comes in that don't use the
blade the same way I do.
>> Yeah. True.
>> That's when they learn the most. So
that's why our goal is to be on this
side. You see that on sign says learn to
teach, teach to learn. Okay. You become
a good parents after having kids, not
before. Yeah, good point.
>> So that's why we do that when they're
here and they work with the new person.
Oh, this person is stiff.
>> That's when you're going to learn the
most
person here. Oh, he's so limber.
You're going to learn more. Another new
person that's over there, he doesn't
even know how to use blade. You're going
to learn more over there. He doesn't
know how to feed. you will learn more
from that person because the person
that's going to attack you with this
>> same they're just going to go crazy like
the question that was given
>> right [laughter]
>> I love how he's like he will go crazy
like the question that you just asked
like bro what is this question even
about like are you questioning this
insane martial arts and I've tried a few
I did karate I did boxing I did wing
tong I didn't try judo but it's not my
sport hai chi which is basically just
more like meditative slow but yeah don't
disrespect Filipino martial arts full
stop
>> you're going to do so that's why for you
to be ready out there first you learn
and train then you try to understand
then apply
>> do you think you could get somebody
killed teaching them how to train with a
knife
>> you know what you can get people killed
if you don't train anything
is better than nothing
>> you' be in worse situ situation if
you're not training.
>> And you know what? If you look at the
statistics of all the people that have
to ever use martial art, it's very low.
Okay? So for me, if the worst thing that
happens is I do this just to stay fit,
just to maintain
>> staying in in good health and to keep in
mind that you know the balance.
>> If that's the only thing, guess what?
It's a win-win situation.
>> Nice. I love that. Well, I'm a huge
advocate for martial arts. If you have
kids and want a second parent to
discipline them, karate or any form of
martial arts was a very crucial part of
my life. I learned a lot about respect,
discipline, and going beyond what I
think is possible. So, positive side
effect is I can defend myself. I am not
shy to stand up for myself. So that
[music] is a big win. But other than
that, I personally believe that martial
arts is just such a good practice for
like he said, inner balance, keeping
yourself fit with your mind, with your
body, and just gaining more confidence.
So yeah, I'm super stoked about Kali. I
think I'm going to do another video
about this. I saw there's another one
which could be even more interesting to
see because it's comparing different
forms of martial arts. So, if you want

Let me know in the comment section down
below what you think about Kali. Does it
look funny to you? Do you think it's
something that is very aggressive? Is it
something that you would like to try
maybe? Or maybe if you have tried, let
me know in the comment section down
below what your experience was. I'm
happy to meet you in the comment section
