Carlos Yulo’s incredible Olympic victory is not just a personal triumph, but a monumental achievement for the Philippines. In this video, we explore why his success in gymnastics holds deeper meaning for the country and its sports future. More than a medal, Yulo's victory shines a spotlight on the underrepresented sport of gymnastics in the Philippines, inspiring young athletes and opening doors to global recognition for Filipino talent in non-traditional sports.
We delve into Yulo's journey from humble beginnings to becoming a world-class athlete, and how his perseverance and dedication have paved the way for a new generation of Filipino gymnasts. His victory is more than just a win for gymnastics; it's a symbol of hope and pride for the entire nation. Yulo’s achievement proves that Filipinos can excel on the global stage, even in sports where they have been historically overlooked.
let me tell you that because we don't always win gold medal this is a big thing when you become a
gold medal winner in the philippines from the olympics you instantly become a national hero
i can agree to that i've seen it many times even if it's beauty pageants boxing any other sports
or like you know somebody makes it in hollywood you are considered a national hero another day
welcome back to another video today we are going to discuss one more time
why carlos yula's olympic victory is more important than you think i mean it is very
important to win gold medal at the olympics for the country but why so today we're going to find
out but before we jump into the video please do me a favor if you enjoy these videos if you're new

story and welcome to ask shao first of all i'd like to say for sharing the videos for engaging
with the filipino story in all the platforms and for sending your questions and your comments we

cute load the energy okay as a filipino historian how do you feel about carlos yulo's two gold medal
victories in the 2024 paris olympics first of all okay let me tell you that because we don't
always win gold medal this is a big thing in fact the president of the philippines gives 10 million
for each medalist and because of that all the other companies in the philippines will offer
you something like one real estate company gives a condo unit for each medalist or something like
that they will offer you something as well so this is really big thing when you become a gold
medal winner in the philippines from the olympics you instantly become a national hero you know
i can agree to that i've seen it many times even if it's beauty pageants boxing any other sports or
like you know somebody makes it in hollywood you are considered a national hero actually i'm not
into sports okay and i'm not familiar with a lot of the rules of the games still as a filipino just
because they made history it's very important to me but i'd like to point out what historian
ian alfonso wrote when he heard about carlos yulos win he said he felt good with carlos yulos
win in paris because in the paris olympics our flag was raised our national anthem was heard
we are being honored because of our victory there but more than a hundred years ago when the
americans and the spaniards were negotiating what would become known as the treaty of paris
where america will pay 20 million dollars to the spaniards for the philippines and that means that
america will have a legal occupation of the philippines our first diplomats who brought
our flag there were not permitted to go inside those negotiations so it was about us but they
did not include us this means that the paris victory that we had is actually more meaningful
if you watch this channel for quite some time you would have watched a few history related
videos with me and having that connection and just kind of like you know being back there in
paris and winning and it's just like it's such a statement for the country it's such a proud
moment as well especially because philippines is independent and not occupied by the americans by
and they're independent they made it and they succeeded they won gold and it's just a huge
moment for the country so thank you carlos yulo for getting the philippines recognized in a city
that didn't acknowledge the independence of the filipino more than a hundred years ago all right
wow okay next question at dan jill underscore pr snl personal is it really a filipino thing
if one piece of food is left in a plate for others to grab oh okay i was at dinner with
my friend zoe and she left pieces of foods on the plates and we had several plates and
you know i was like are you not getting that and she's like nelly you already know
and this is a filipino thing but let's hear what he has to say
this has something to do with two characteristics of filipinos one is our propensity for here
magmukang
then it will just be stay here i also would like to link up on there
so there you go but i'll tell you i'll tell you i'll tell you i don't think i'm one of them
okay if no one wants to eat it but of course in general filipinos i like that
okay but not everyone okay that's why you see me no okay at kain.gs is there still a living
babaylan that remains rooted in traditional ways there's still what we call indigenous peoples
and they still have some of them priests they still have priestesses they still have
in their communities but in many ways their spirit lives not just with the real babaylans
but with everyday people because what is the spirit of the babaylan according to zio salazar
there are three roles of the babaylan in our society number one the babaylan is the conduit
of god and man number two the babaylan was a storyteller she's the one who chants the epics
and the myths which makes people one people and number three the babaylan is also a doctor
oh wow that means i didn't know that the babaylan is actually the uniter of peoples
a storyteller she unites the people and remind them with their epic heroes oh my god that sounds
pretty much like everybody's auntie like that one auntie or like that one grandma that you know
pretty much one past and that they have a future together as one they have a common future and so
in many ways the spirit of the babaylan is in every teacher or history professor or storyteller
of our culture in this country and so in some ways we can say that the creators of the filipino
because they remind us of how despite the fact that we are 180 languages and 180 cultures
we actually have a common experience i just did a video about the filipino story it will pop up
here i really love the story very touching very you know relatable as well so it's just coincidence
that it was just mentioned here didn't know it first as austronesians then as colonized peoples
with a common struggle and our common road to nationhood which is fraught by a lot of challenges
and divisions but ultimately
and if we're reminded by that we feel like we are one people on the same journey
we are like that funny look about you thank you very much
