I bought this Sketchbook,
but it's made of fabric and I can't stick
anything on it. Ah, but anyway, let's
see what he brings here. Well, obviously it
doesn't bring anything but leaves. Ah,
but let's try it. One of the
most constant concerns, I think, for
a cartoonist is when we buy a
sketchbook and don't know what to draw in it at
first. But I think I feel that
many times we are very stressed
because we want a sketchbook to be
very impeccable and the whole show and I think
that sometimes we don't give ourselves the time to
experiment, to
draw what we like. I don't know why
there's pressure to have it perfect
when a sketchbook can either be
perfect or not.
For example, in the last
sketchbook, which I actually want to
make a video for you, I dedicated that one
so that the sketchbook would have
finished pieces, and in the end, I
had to appraise it because I sold
some of the originals that were in that
sketchbook. So, in my case, I
feel that many times we don't necessarily have to
have just a sketchbook.
There are many times that, for example, I
currently have a sketchbook to just
scratch it and get ideas and at the part
where I wanted all the
pieces to be, it's already finished. And this one I
started, I want it to be like,
whatever, I mean, if something comes to mind I
draw it, eh, if I want to sketch something I
'm going to sketch it. So, one piece of advice
I give you is not to stress out because
I see a lot of people very stressed about how they
want to manage their sketchbooks, and this is
a topic I've brought up on other
occasions. For example,
in other sketchbooks I had, they always
told me, like, no, but that
's not a sketchbook, it's an artbook. And it's
like, "Dude, people are going to handle their
sketchbook however they want, like, there's going to be
pages that are finished, there's going to be pages that are
lined, there's going to be pages where you're going to
pose, uh, draw something that you
liked or whatever, because I feel like that's
how you learn to
draw." The problem, I feel, is
when you share your sketchbook and
then you start to compare yourself
because maybe you see very
immaculate sketchbooks and you say, "I can't do
that." But of course it's not going to
turn out the same for you because you're not that
person. And I tell you, the meaning you
give to your sketchbook is totally
personal and you can have several
sketchbooks at the same time. For example, I
had a friend who only had a
sketchbook to draw houses and that was it.
And his whole sketchbook was specifically
just drawing houses and another one where he had whatever
. So take that advice
and it may help you to have several
sketchbooks at once or just have one,
but the point is to enjoy it. So
now I've started this new sketchbook
which is from Marcacher, which has 52
pages, 250g. Ah, that's right, 220 g.
Hey, it's not commercial. In fact, I did
buy this one, it's not a collaboration. I wanted to
buy it because I wanted to change from the ones
that almost my sketchbook, eh, the ones I
always bring are the ones
we sell in the little store.
So I said, well, I've
been following them for a while, well, I've been using them and I
said, well, I'm going to change. And I just
wanted to try this one, which is medium, that
is, the size is half a letter, it's my
average, which I really liked because it
's also hot pressed, so it's very
smooth, it almost has no texture and it
felt really good with the wash. Hey, it says it
's mixed media, so it holds up
well, and the paper didn't warp,
the colors looked very vivid.
So, 10 out of 10 in this regard for
this sketchbook. But the only bad thing was
that I didn't realize that the cover is
like cloth. So, the truth is that it
's very boring because something that had me
excited was that I could put
stickers on it and I usually don't
put stickers on my SketchUps because
since we use ours, it
usually has an illustration, so I do
n't have to put anything on it. But here I
said, "Ah, well I'm going to take advantage because it
's plain, but I never thought it was made
of fabric." So, I don't know what you
recommend I
paint or do to it. I don't know if I should paint
something with acrylics, but I'm afraid it
might crackle, I don't know.
You guys tell me what advice you give me to
paint this sketchbook because
the cover is so boring. But well, I was
just telling you that I took advantage of it by
starting this sketchbook because I'm
really traumatized by the Silk Song game
where Hornet appears and obviously I had already
been traumatized by Hollow Knight, but
now I'm traumatized by this one and I've been
doing a lot of fan art and I said, I'm going to take advantage
, I'm going to take advantage, I'm going to
draw it and that's how I'm going to start my
new sketchbook. So, here's the
advice I give you: start
with something you really like so that it
motivates you, because I feel like
sometimes we're as afraid as one of
the blank page and two of just starting
the new sketchbook because we want it to
be perfect. And something we have to get
out of our heads is that a sketchbook might
not be perfect in your head
. Well, yes, it's going to be perfect
because I feel like your
sketchbook is already perfect as it is.
But in our heads we want
all the leaves to be works of art and
well no, I mean, here I did say, I already had
a sketchbook where I wanted all the
leaves to be like finished works. Here I'm
going to give myself the chance to play a
little more with everything. I mean, if I want to
sketch, I'm going to sketch. If I want this one,
because I don't know how to have finished works, I'm
going to have them. I mean, I don't want to limit myself
in that sense because something that did
happen to me in my other sketchbook where I did
want everything to be immaculate,
well there were things that occurred to me and it
was like, "Oh, but no, it
was a show because sometimes I haven't
brought my other sketchbook." That's the
bad thing about having multiple sketchbooks,
you have to carry several. But oh, I
am very happy. I don't know if everyone
is as happy as I am having
multiple sketchbooks, because I feel like
sometimes it's like, "Oh no, but there are a
lot of them." But I enjoy it very much.
So, not long after that I
started having several sketchbooks at the
same time and it's quite fun, eh, because
I'm a person who gets bored very
quickly and something that I'm going to have
against me is the size, because this new
sketchbook is letter size and my
sketchbook where I only sketch with pen
is also letter size, well, half a
letter size, so ah, let's see how it
goes. Let's see if I don't get bored too quickly
because I want to finish everything, but
well, let's see, the other sketchbook took me more or
less time,
I think it was like 5 months to finish it
and still, in fact, I haven't even
finished it because I'm missing two pages to
paint them completely and then
officially say that it's finished because there
are the sketches, there are the sketches that I
want to paint, but they are not finished.
But anyway, that's the advice I
give you, how to start your sketchbook.
Grab something you really, really,
really, really, really like. And whether it's
sketched or finished, the point is to
lose the fear of the blank page and
the fear of saying it has to be perfect
because, well, no, no, we're very
spoiled. I feel that, because of everything
that's shown to us on the Internet of
Things,
we want everything to be perfect, and I don't
know, but well, no, I mean, most
people who have a sketchbook
are very versatile.
So
point number one, don't compare yourself to
anyone else. They can be
inspired, yes, but when you
start comparing yourself and you start thinking
, oh, no, it's not going to turn out the
same for me, I don't know what, no, bye, it's done, bye,
then you've lost.
So, don't be that person and
just enjoy it, enjoy it
a lot, because I feel like a sketchbook
is something very intimate where
whether you want to show it to the whole
world or not, you're going to show all the pages
to the whole world, you know? I
feel that many people do that, that is, we
obviously share the things
we like and not the rest. Whether it's
because your perception is like, "Oh, it
turned out bad." Or it's something very personal that
you say, "I'm not ready to share it
with everyone because I feel like a
sketchbook is like a visual diary."
But well, that's my advice and that's
what I do now that I have the
sketchbook and so I wanted to tell you about it.
If anyone wants to take it, that's
fine. If someone doesn't want to take it, that's fine
too. And so, I tell you, don't be
afraid of him. Right now, uh, I made
several Silks Song characters and oh,
also another piece of advice I give you is that
a sketchbook is for studying,
for experimenting, and for having a
good time. And right now that I'm recording
the audio, I've already written three pages. And the three
sheets are from Hornet and The Little Game.
So, I don't know what else I'm going to paint for him
in the next few days. I'll
share them with you on Instagram. And so,
I hope this video has helped you,
I hope you've had fun here
chatting with me, and so,
see you in the next video, and so,
see you soon. I hope you
liked all these tricks and oh, and the
wash I used to not leave is the
Winsor Newton. Yeah. And so, now I'm really
leaving. I hope you liked it.
Leave me your comments here if it was
helpful. or what do you also recommend I
draw in my sketchbook. And see you
soon.
Hais.
