That is definitely one of the things that make us foreigners feel very welcome in the Philippines
because everywhere you go people are like oh where are you from and then you kind of start
talking and then it's like this really engaging conversation.
What's up Philippines!
Welcome back to another video.
Today we are reacting to cultural differences in the Philippines and I personally as a foreigner
coming to the Philippines experienced a lot of those cultural shocks to say at least.
It was very different from my life in Europe and my life in the U.S.
but I pretty much adopted to everything in the Philippines.
I would say pretty well.
If you're watching my channel Nelly's Life you know that I'm kind of like I'm already
Filipina by heart and yeah today I'm reacting to nine culture shocks by Japanese girls while
studying in the Philippines and this is from Yana 123 Japan.
So I would say we'll just jump straight into it.
We are Japanese and we have been to the Philippines for studying abroad, right?
For me I have studied in the Philippines because of learning English.
The first time was I was in Baguio for one month and second one is in Cebu for one month.
For me only one time and I went to study abroad for two months in Cebu.
So we have been to the Philippines for studying abroad and we have culture shock, right?
Because you know Japan and Philippines are so different.
Even for studying abroad we feel like oh it's culture shock.
So today we're gonna talk about studying abroad culture shock.

Let's go!
Go!
First one, teachers are so friendly.
Oh wow, okay.
Japanese teacher is so strict and always serious.
In the Philippines teachers are so friendly.
Yeah, like a friend.
Yeah, yeah.
So it's easy to talk and when I went to Cebu I already have YouTube channel.
And some teacher find me, oh you are YouTuber, you are on Haro, right?
Please take a picture.
I was so surprised.
Would never happen in Austria.
Teacher is so surprised.
We have graduation ceremony and teacher sing a song and dancing.
Dancing, yeah.
Yeah, let me just point out that would never ever happen in Austria.
Teachers in Austria are just very, like she said, very strict.
Very, I don't know, distant as well.
So I wouldn't see my former teachers ever dancing or taking pictures with me, ever.
Mine was so upset because my image of teacher and Filipino teacher are so different.
So different.
How about Cebu teacher?
My teacher also so friendly.
Sometime we talk about the relationship.
Yeah, relationship.
My teacher also really like idol.
Like K-pop.
I was so shocked.
But I'm so happy because, you know, teacher are so friendly.
I feel like it's giving me more energy to study English.
Japanese teacher are so strict, right?
Yeah.
I'm so afraid.
I was very mad.
Because he's teacher.
Yeah, really, really.
But it's first time to hear that.
My father is teacher.
P, P, P.
P.
Yeah, P.
So he sometimes so strict.
He sometimes so strict.
Yes.
So totally different.
Yeah, totally different.
Number two.
Okay, let me know in the comment section right now what you think of your teachers.
If you're Filipino, if you studied in the Philippines,
please let me know in the comment section what was your experience with teachers.
Number two.
They give us three meals.
We went to language school.
And language school give us three meals in a day.
Every food are so good.
They are Korean, Japanese, Taiwanese.
But we really like Filipino food.
And the cooker are also Filipino.
How about your meals?
Her school is so many Korean food.
Because all night.
Yeah, all night.
Okay, makes sense.
So many Korean students.
So maybe five days is Korean food.
All night.
Wow, that's a lot.
Okay, I like Korean food.
But actually I want to eat many Filipino food.
So little bit.
I think Filipino food is more good for me.
Because, you know, sometimes my stomach is so weak.
So Korean food sometimes for me like too spicy.
Too spicy, okay.
Filipino food is so good.
So I love it.
Yeah, it's not spicy.
It's normal, right?
Because there are so many language school.
But they give us like three meals in a day.
So masala.
Number three.
Teacher always drink sweet coffee or drinks.
Ah, no, I know, I know.
In the language school, there are like water server.
Yes.
And we can take water for free.
And I realized every teacher has like powder, like coffee or juice.
Filipino coffee is so sweet.
Three in one.
Sometimes like my teacher give me like powder coffee.
But I was like, oh, it's like a bitter and sweet taste.
But no, it's totally sweet.
It's very sweet.
It's more sugar than coffee, I think.
So it will definitely wake you up.
Filipino coffee is so sweet.
And there are so many like flavors.
Regarding juice, there are so many like tropical flavor.
And in Japan, we have powder drinks.
But usually we don't use it.
Because we always drink like unsweetened tea.
So I was so surprised.
Oh my god, Filipino people really like to drink like sweet drinks.
I like Filipino sweet in one coffee.
Ah, it's so good.
I have coffee and milk and sugar.
I like this coffee.
It's a powder one.
If you have recommended powder drink, please.
Okay, in Austria, not at university.
But in primary school, you actually order some cacao.
Or like a milk flavor.
Like strawberry milk or banana milk drinks.
And that's kind of like your break drink.
Let me know.
Number four.
When Filipino people walking, you guys always chatting.
I imagine like school and study.
I have to like study seriously.
But now, my teacher always want to talk to me.
And it's so crowded.
And other teacher came here.
And we also chatting, chatting, chatting, chatting.
It's so fun.
It's all about connecting, right?
I used to go to Seibu shopping mall.
And when I'm shopping and I want to ask something.
Maybe the Philippine staff is talking with me.
And I say, ah, where are you from?
Ah, you are Japanese.
Yeah, I really talk to...
Yeah, every time.
And even I went to Jollibee.
Jollibee staff ask me.
Oh my god, Jollibee, you are so cute.
When you work in Japan, we have to work so serious.
Our manager is also like so strict.
In the Philippines, it's so happy country.
Yeah, every freedom.
Yeah, it's so freedom.
So I feel like so happy.
And there are so many opportunity to speak English.
Yeah, true.
Speaking skill is also getting better.
Yeah, I see you so too.
Number five.
Okay, before we jump into number five.
Yeah, that is definitely one of the things that make us foreigners feel very welcome.
In the Philippines, because everywhere you go,
people are like, oh, where are you from?
And then you kind of start talking.
And then it's like this really engaging conversation.
And you end up having a meal together.
Some make beer or coffee or whatever.
People are very friendly, very hospitable, very open-minded.
So it's quite an experience.
It makes you smile.
It's not like that in Austria.
Everybody's kind of like reserved and just has this leave me alone attitude.
How many weekend and holiday?
It's so good.
I was so surprised because teacher told me like,
oh, tomorrow and the day after tomorrow are also holiday.
And I was like, last week also holiday.
There are so many holidays in the Philippines, especially Christmas.
Because you know, in the Philippines, there are so many Christians.
They have to get close and together in the holiday.
In Japan, we have Christmas holiday.
But it's short in the Philippines.
They don't celebrate.
I think like three days or four days.
Oh, so long.
I feel like I'm so jealous.
Number six.
Six.
Six teacher's desks are so pop.
Every teacher has own desk.
On the desk, there are so many pictures and decorations.
It's so happy and it's so colorful.
In Japan, it's so simple.
We don't have like pictures.
In Austria, neither.
No, nothing like that.
I think Filipino people really like taking a picture.
Yes.
I can see like my teacher's family's face.
Yes.
Teacher's friends.
When I leave the Philippines, I write letter for my teacher.
And my teacher put on the wall.
I like you.
I never forgot you.
My heart is so warm.
It's so sweet.
That's very sweet.
Yeah, in Austria, there's no personal items on the teacher's desk whatsoever.
It's very clean.
There's just the utensils that they need and that's it.
But yeah, I would like to see one of those teacher desks.
I should go to a school, maybe study.
Filipino people really like colorful style.
But I think Japanese people really like simple style.
Number seven.
Seven, seven.
I'm so sorry but I want to tell you guys.
Filipino Wi-Fi is so slow.
Slow.
Really slow.
The pets win.
Upload video but it takes so many time.
I wanted to give up so I find like internet cafe.
And I went to the internet cafe but there are so many gamers.
Yeah.
I just wanted to upload the video but there are so many gamers.
Internet cafe.
The Wi-Fi is so small.
Oh, wow.
Yeah, but it's Japanese one.
I think Japanese Wi-Fi is so fast.
Yeah, that's true.
If you compare it to Japan, it's very different.
It was very hard to find a strong Wi-Fi in the Philippines.
The Wi-Fi program is so serious.
Yeah, me too.
I want to call to my mom but always it's a mama.
If you know strong Wi-Fi, please, please, please let me know because it was very hard to find it.
Number eight.
There are so many students.
Yeah, I was not aware.
From foreign country.
I know Philippines is so famous for studying abroad.
So there are Korean, Taiwanese, Vietnamese, Japanese, Chinese.
So it's so international.
Tuition is also cheap and...
Let me know in the comment section down below how much it costs to study.
Diving.
Yeah, like diving.
I went to study abroad because I want to go to Philippines, diving and study English.
You can not only study English but also like enjoy marine sports.
Yes, like sightseeing.
Because Philippines has so many beautiful sightseeing.
I came up like eight culture differences.
But I came up one thing.
Oh, okay.
Let's see.
Number nine.
There are no bus stop in the Philippines.
Japanese always take a bus every day.
Yes.
But our dorm, we don't have bus stop.
So it was very hard to me.
It was like so weird because only shower is not enough.
I don't know.
And sometimes the shower's temperature...
Is cold.
Yeah.
I'm so curious about normal Filipino people.
Because we are children.
So maybe and we live in dormitory.
So I think maybe it's difference or same.
So please let me know.
All right.
Okay, that was amazing.
Yeah, I agree.
There is cold water everywhere.
No bathtubs.
Only in luxury hotels, I think.
Like really nice hotels or more expensive hotels.
But not in a like...
It's not usual in the Philippines.
Anyways, I really love this video.
There are a few things that should be pointed out.
And let me know what you think about it.
If you have studied in the Philippines.
Or if you can relate to anything that they said.
For me, that was it.
I'll see you guys next time here on...
