Everton showed more signs of their progress under David Moyes but it wasn’t enough to prevent a 2-1 defeat in the 247th Merseyside derby at Anfield.
The Blues were punished for a lacklustre opening to go two goals down after efforts from Ryan Gravenberch and Hugo Ekitike.
But they showed spirit to fight their way back into the clash. Everton were the better team after the break and got their just reward on 58 minutes with a fine first-time finish from Idrissa Gana Gueye, but could not find a second goal.
Got to get up and get on with it.
Into the penalty area for Gravenberg!
Straight through, by two goals to Niller-Anfield.
Here's James Garner, they're going to have it back again.
Nice little lay-off to Idrissa Garner-Gay.
Wide to Jack Grealish, on this left-hand side, can he have a run on Conor Bradley?
Bradley's trying to show him wide, so he goes wide.
Then he clips the ball into the penalty area, and Guy, back to Idrissa Garner-Gay!
Yes! Idrissa Garner-Gay!
Come on!
Slams it into the back of the net, and Everton have pulled one back.
The Evertonians have gone berserk, and Idrissa Garner-Gay has pulled a goal back for Everton.
It was a nice move, it was a great finish.
It was coming, it was coming, Daz, these last five minutes.
We've worked the ball brilliantly, got the ball, Idrissa Garner-Gay, great finish.
Come on, boys!
It was a lovely finish from Idrissa Garner-Gay, he slammed it with his right foot.
Alisson Becker, who hadn't been tested much, died away to his right, he couldn't get near it.
They are so dangerous from other teams' corners.
Here's Salah, Florian Miritz peels off, Miritz gets it on the edge of the penalty area,
brings it infield, great challenge by James Tarkovsky.
Corner for Liverpool.
Just shows how dangerous they are, done it from a counter-attack.
I think Liverpool are the best at other teams' corners, aren't they?
Yeah.
There's nothing wrong with the corner, by the way, it was a good one from Dewsbury Hall.
The Liverpool bench frantically asking how long to go, Dewsbury Hall drills it long.
Grealish is underneath it, catches it on the volley.
Ambitious, to say the least, and it's a goal kick.
