Watch extended highlights from the Reds' first ever game at Hill Dickinson Stadium where goals from Mo Salah and Virgil van Dijk gave the Reds all three Premier League points.
This is the one year they're resplendent new stadium,
they have a chance to close the gap on Liverpool
and to propel themselves into the race for the UEFA Champions League.
That's the test for Liverpool today,
to turn around quickly from the game against Paris Saint-Germain
and to make sure they don't lose the Merseyside derby.
Let's take a check on the two teams and we'll start with Liverpool,
as we always do, there are three changes from the game against PSG the other night.
We already knew, of course, the injury to Hugo Piqué-TK and Alexey Mikhailovich.
Milos Kirkes also dropped out,
so Andrew Robertson returns at the back end,
restored to midfield, and Salah.
Well, as for the home side, they're in a good, rich vein of form.
The home record, as always tends to be on stadiums like this when they first open,
it's been a little bit patchy, they've lost as many as Dave Moon here,
they're unchanged from last time out.
Under David Moyes has always been to get in Liverpool's spaces where possible.
See there, he's slightly just moving to his right-hand side as a big Georgian,
but manages to change direction just in time,
and get down low to his left-hand side to meet him.
Garner will take the free kick, and he's whipped it right in!
And Mamadashvili had a good stop again.
That's an awful finish from Beto, that's a great opportunity.
Mamadashvili's starting position has got to be a lot higher than what it was,
Liverpool play quite a high line, but Beto gets it totally all wrong, doesn't he?
He has to use those very long arms of his to throw that into the box,
the flick is by Beto.
Dangerous looking cross, and arriving at pace!
It's a beautiful finish as well.
The question mark is whether O'Brien's offside here.
He's not gone out in time there.
Oh, they'll be kicking themselves here, Everton.
It's a great touch, isn't it?
Coming to Liverpool's rescue, well, when I say coming to their rescue, it's offside.
Here's Florian Beert, little threat, chance!
It was a hopeful stab from Cody Gatpoe, couldn't get it away from Pickford.
Just misses towards it, gets a good contact.
It's a funny old game as somebody once said, and what a turnaround.
Everton two minutes ago think they're taking the lead,
only to get it chopped off from offside.
And then up pops that man, to equal Steven Gerrard in derby games,
with nine goals.
And what a time to score it, and what a place to score it.
What an opportunity.
Mikalenko, well, he's just got the wrong side of Mohamed Salah,
and Mohamed Salah's got the wrong side of Mikalenko.
It's a wonderful ball by Cody Gatpoe,
you have to say it's a great pass across the 18-yard box.
Pickford could maybe have cut it out,
he doesn't come, he stays on his line,
and then it's Mohamed Salah, one-on-one with him.
You've got to back Mohamed Salah all day long,
and Liverpool take the lead in the derby.
That's holding up nicely, beautifully taken by...
And it's in!
Is there any danger, to be quite honest with you?
I'm not sure Tarkowski sees it all the way, in fairness.
Heads in the direction of goal.
He needs credit, his position is really, really good.
I think we've seen this script so often from Liverpool this season,
they take opportunities, and the build-up play is fantastic,
then they get punished.
It's the best we've seen from quite a while.
It was a fantastic opportunity as well, wasn't it?
He just gets underneath it and lifts it over the crossbar.
Here to be won, like it was very late, despair for Liverpool.
Can they turn that into joy this season?
Engelmar, Sobhoslai, McAllister, Sobhoslai!
Got a touch on the way through, it will be a corner, he didn't really get it though.
Didn't really contact the ball just as how he wanted it.
He's gone out for a corner, trying to bring the big guns up,
Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahimovic, who can be the hero.
Who wants to silence the Hill-Dickinson and give Liverpool three points
in their first ever game here.
Well, it's just been thrown to usual pre-corner drama.
We're reaching the 100-minute mark.
Delivery now, van Dijk!
Well, not dissimilar to the first goal he ever scored for Liverpool
against Everton in an FA Cup tie,
I know that was at Anfield, but it was a similar sort of header.
And as you rightly say, for big-time occasions come big-time players,
and there's none bigger than Virgil van Dijk, the Liverpool captain.
I mean, there's everything, all sorts going on in there.
I am bigger than you, I am stronger than you.
I will score.
Virgil van Dijk does just that to win the Merseyside derby.
Down on the docks.
Leaving Everton down in the dumps.
Harvey once again, be it Goodison, be it Anfield, be it the Hill-Dickinson,
in his afternoons and nights for Liverpool.
Biggest three points of the season.
It's a statement win, led by their captain from the very front.
He wants to put himself front and centre,
on a day they lost a goalkeeper to add to the injury rolls.
Freddie Woodman comes from the bench,
and Virgil van Dijk is a red hero once again,
and Liverpool winning at Everton.
Always sounds nice, doesn't it?
Everton 1-2 Liverpool.
