My name is Lily Anderson.
I'm six years old, and I'm from Meadowbrook, Wisconsin.
This is my best friend in the whole wide world, Daisy.
She's not just any cow.
She's special.
She's my miracle.
I remember the day we found Daisy.
It was raining so hard, and Daddy got a call from Mr.
Peterson down the road.
He said there was a little calf all alone
in the mud by the creek.
She was so skinny you could see all her bones
under her black and white patches.
When we got there, she was laying on her side.
She couldn't even stand up.
Her eyes were so sad, like she was just
waiting to go to heaven.
Daddy said someone must have abandoned her
because she was the runt.
Too small to be worth anything to them.
I begged Daddy to help her.
I promised I would take care of her all by myself.
When we brought her home, she was so weak
that Mom and Dad didn't think she
would make it through the night.
I slept in the barn with her that first night.
I sang to her and told her stories until the sun came up.
For three weeks, I would wake up every two hours
to bottle feed her.
I'd talk to her, brush her, and tell her she was beautiful.
I named her Daisy because daisies are tough little flowers
that can grow anywhere, even in the hardest places.
One morning, something amazing happened.
I was feeling really sad because my grandpa
had just passed away.
He was the one who taught me about animals.
He always said they understand more than we think.
I was sitting with Daisy, crying, telling her about Grandpa
when she started making this funny noise and nudging me.
Then she stood up on her back legs, put her front hooves out,
and did this pose, like this.
At first, everyone in my family thought it was just funny,
but then Daisy kept doing it every time I was sad.
It was like, it was like she was trying to make me smile.
Dad said it looked just like that famous scene
from the Titanic movie, you know,
the one where they're standing at the front of the ship?
Grandpa and I used to watch that movie together.
It was his favorite.
He said it reminded him of when he met Grandma,
that feeling of being on top of the world
when you find someone who loves you just as you are.
Last year, I entered Daisy in the 4-H competition.
Nobody thought a rescue cow could win.
The other kids had fancy cows from expensive farms.
But I worked so hard with Daisy,
I brushed her coat until it shined.
I taught her to walk beside me without a lead.
And when the judges came by, she did her special pose,
right there in front of everyone.
The judges had never seen anything like it.
We won first place.
Not because she was the biggest or the prettiest,
but because of our bond.
Because love can turn the most broken things
into something beautiful.
But what nobody knows is that two months ago,
the doctors told us Daisy has a heart condition.
They don't know how long she has.
Could be years, could be months.
Every day with her is a gift now.
So today, we want to share something special with you.
It's a dance we created together.
The music is from Titanic, Grandpa's favorite.
When Daisy and I perform this,
I feel like he's watching us from heaven,
and I feel like I'm showing the world
that sometimes the most beautiful things
come from the most broken beginning.
