Now I want you to know that Charlie right now is in heaven, not because he was a great husband and
father, not because he saved millions of kids out of darkness on college campuses, not because
he changed minds and chased votes to save the country, not because he sacrificed himself
for his savior. Charlie Kirk is in heaven because his savior sacrificed himself for Charlie Kirk.
A powerful moment during yesterday's memorial as Charlie Kirk's friend and mentor describes
the immediate aftermath of the assassination as they rushed to the Turning Point USA founder
to that Utah hospital. Dr. Frank Turek joins us now. Good morning, Dr. Turek. Great job yesterday.
Very strong. Hey, good morning, Ainsley. It was a very uplifting service for a tremendously
tragic event, not only in our country's history, but for so many of those of us who knew Charlie
and loved him. I mean, Ainsley, his soaring intellect was only surpassed by his humility.
He was the greatest man that I ever knew personally. And I'm so sad he's gone,
but there's been much good that's come from it, as you can see. I mean, Erica last night, Ainsley,
can you believe her? She was amazing. Amazing. I'm sorry, I was struck by it. Can you believe
the power that this 31-year-old man had on the nation and on the entire world yesterday?
Ainsley, it brought joy to my heart to see what happened yesterday because you had everybody from
the President of the United States on down talking about the truth of the gospel, that Jesus came
to live the perfect life in our place. And by trusting in him, we can not only be forgiven,
but we can be given his righteousness. You know, there's a myth out there that
your good deeds have to outweigh your bad to get to heaven. That's not true.
Your good deeds can't outweigh your bad. If you've done evil, and all of us have,
the only way to be forgiven is to place your punishment on an innocent substitute.
And that innocent substitute is God himself. Jesus comes to save us. So by trusting in him,
we then go and do good works like Erica did last night to forgive the killer of her husband. It's
only a supernatural force like the Holy Spirit who can do this. Dr. Turk, we have a conversation
that you had with Charlie. This is August 23, 2022. Watch this. Let's talk about the moral
implications if there is no God. If everyone gets to determine their own truth and determine their
own morality, well, then who's to say what is right or wrong? If there is no God, then nothing
is ultimately right or wrong. Everything's just a matter of opinion. I think it's the most powerful
argument today for the existence of God, because no matter where you go, Charlie, whether you're
dealing with an atheist, an agnostic or a Christian or a Muslim, whoever you're dealing with,
they think certain things are morally right and certain things are morally wrong.
Dr. Turk, I've heard you talk about taking him to the hospital, which was just so sad,
but I want to learn more about what Charlie did five years ago. Did he call you and say,
I want to learn how to debate better? I want to learn more about Christianity. How did y'all
develop a friendship? Yeah, he actually emailed our ministry and said, so much of what I'm doing,
I learned from you, Dr. Turk, and so I want to get to know you better and I want to be able to try
and answer questions better from the students on campus, because Ainsley, he loved students
and he wanted to dialogue with them. I mean, is it crazy, Ainsley, they call somebody like
Charlie Kirk a fascist? Ainsley, do you know of any fascist who gives his opponent the microphone
and says, go ahead, say whatever you want to say, let's have a dialogue. No, fascists kill
their opponents. The guy who killed Charlie was a fascist, not Charlie. It's amazing how twisted
some people get in trying to oppose people they don't like. Charlie wanted to dialogue with
people. He wanted to bring them to the saving knowledge of Jesus. The Bible tells us to be
prepared to give an answer, and he always was. Thank you for your contribution, contributions
to that, Dr. Turk. God bless. Please welcome to the stage, Frank Turek. Erica wanted me to share
with you what happened after that shot rang out on September 10th. I was standing 25 feet from my
beloved friend just off his right. Why was I there? About five years ago, Charlie asked me
if I would mentor him in the evidence for Christianity, because that's one of the things
I do. Now, it's going to be difficult to mentor someone smarter than you. However,
the only thing that surpassed Charlie's intellect was his humility.
And so the few things I knew that he didn't, he wanted me to share with him.
When that shot rang out, I took a step toward him, but his security team was on him immediately.
And so Charlie, being like a son to me, I ran toward the security team and we ran to the SUV
together. No father would stand back and go, no, you just take my son, take him, I'll meet you at
the hospital. I got into the back of the SUV, and let me tell you something, his team was amazing.
When this full investigation is done, I think you're going to see that his team did everything
they were supposed to do. In the car, Justin was driving, Dan was in the front with the GPS,
Rick was to my left, he had Charlie's head, and Brian was at Charlie's feet,
and Charlie's so big we couldn't even shut the door, he's so tall. And I'm perched over the back
seat, and while they're administering all sorts of first aid, apparently my skill, my job was to yell.
I was doing a lot of yelling. And I want you to know that we did everything we could to save
Charlie, but Charlie was already gone. His face was looking at mine, but he wasn't looking at me.
He was looking past me right into eternity. And if it's any comfort at all, I learned later that
Charlie felt no pain. He died instantly. But we had to try and bring him back. We couldn't, we
couldn't. And I want you to know that Charlie right now is in heaven, not because he was a great husband and father,
not because he saved millions of kids out of darkness on college campuses, not because
he changed minds and chased votes to save the country, not because he sacrificed himself
for his savior. Charlie Kirk is in heaven because his savior sacrificed himself for Charlie Kirk.
Now look, there's only two things you can get in the afterlife. You can get justice, or you can get
grace. Ladies and gentlemen, does anyone in here, does anybody out there watching around the world
want justice from an infinitely just being? I don't want justice, I want grace. Well, the only way to
get grace for an infinitely just being is for him to punish an innocent substitute in our place.
Where can he find an innocent substitute among us? He can't. We're all fallen. So what does this
infinitely just and infinitely loving God do? He adds humanity to his deity. He comes to earth.
He allows the creatures that rebelled against him to torture and kill him so he could place
their punishment upon himself. And then by trusting in him, every one of us can be forgiven
and then given his righteousness. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the greatest story ever told,
and it happens to be true. There's evidence for this and Charlie knew it. Watch his videos.
Charlie knew that life wasn't just about money, it wasn't just about sex, it wasn't just about
power, it wasn't just about prestige. He knew that the purpose of life is to know Jesus and
to make him known, to make heaven crowded. Charlie's eyes were fixed on eternity.
Where have your eyes been fixed? What have you been doing with your lives?
What have you been doing? What are you going to do now? You know, in every evil,
God brings forth some ripples of good. In this case, he's bringing a tsunami of good.
Look around. You're seeing it. And if you think a martyrdom is going to stop this movement,
well, we all know Charlie was inspirational. But Erica Kirk is a force of nature.
You're going to see her later today. In fact, I know what's going on in the spiritual realm right
now. Every morning, Erica gets up, the devil shrieks, oh no, she's awake again.
And ladies and gentlemen, let's honor Jesus. Let's honor Charlie. Let's honor Erica.
So that when we wake up every morning, the devil shrieks, oh no, they're awake again.
They're born again. Charlie Kirk is laid to rest after a moving ceremony at State Farm Stadium.
Hundreds of thousands of people filled the stands and joined together to honor Charlie's legacy
and how his work will live on. Charlie is bigger today than he was. Think about it.
Just two weeks ago, he's bigger today than he was two weeks ago. Now, that may not help his
friends and loved ones, of which there are so many. It may not help Erica and those beautiful
children who have to suffer so horribly through this moment. He's bigger now than ever before,
and he's eternal. He's eternal. And I just want to say we love him.
Michael Knowles was supposed to join Charlie today at a Turning Point USA event in Minnesota.
That event's still happening, but now it's going to be a tribute to Kirk. And Michael Knowles
joins us live. We'll get to that event in just a moment, Michael. But first,
let's go back to yesterday. So much has already been said about that beautiful,
amazing memorial. Is there something that stood out to you that no one really is talking about
so far? Yes, two things really stood out to me from this beautiful memorial to Charlie.
The first one is that Erica Kirk's speech about her late husband is one of the most powerful
speeches I've ever heard. And this relates to the second most striking feature, which is that
the entire top of our government spent four hours proclaiming the gospel. That is something that
none of us have heard in our lifetimes. And it should not really be strange because our country
was founded by people who called themselves pilgrims, who believed that our creator endows
us with certain rights, who say that our motto is, in God is our trust, in our national anthem.
This has been the history of America, but we've forgotten that in recent years. And so I think
that Charlie's most lasting legacy in a life that included quite a lot of accomplishments,
especially for a 31-year-old, I think his most lasting legacy will be reminding America of what
America's soul really means, what we're all doing, what kind of nation we are. It was absolutely
beautiful. I mean, Michael, I couldn't agree with you more. And Erica's speech, as she was making
it, I was thinking, and this may be a thought that crossed the minds of other people, that
she was born for that moment. And that's a tragic reality, but the Bible says,
for such a time as this, and this was her moment. And she delivered what is an impossible speech to
make with such grace, eloquence, and showed the forgiveness of God that Charlie would certainly
be proud of. And Michael, she also said, Charlie died with incomplete work, but not unfinished
business. And here you are today. You were supposed to be hosting a Turning Point USA event with
Charlie in Minnesota, and now it's going to be just you on that stage, because Charlie has died.
How are you processing this, and how do you plan to finish that unfinished work that Erica was
talking about? I'll be doing it with a lot of Charlie's friends. Charlie had many, many friends
happily, and so the event will go on. I think that Charlie's enemies thought that they could
not only silence him, but in fact silence his whole movement. That will not happen. In fact,
they will not even silence his speaking tour. So many, many other of Charlie's friends will be
finishing out this tour. I will appear tonight. There will be an empty chair on stage. I will
give a tribute to Charlie, and then we will open up the floor to an open conversation. Charlie's
enemies will not have stopped that, and people who disagree can, like at all of his events,
cut to the front of the line. We will continue to have a healthy debate, and we will continue
to show the country the stark difference between the two political options in front of them.
Before we let you go, what is next for Charlie's movement? Specifically, how do you convert the
Charlie Kirk skeptic and really focus on that wayward young man sitting in their parents'
basement who really is wasting their life right now? About 45 seconds to you.
I think that Charlie did that magnificently in his life, and he really mastered the art of
reaching people who were not necessarily involved in politics. Erica Kirk continued that work
beautifully yesterday. I think the distinction is totally clear, and I think Charlie's recruitment
efforts to the good and to the political good reached their absolute apotheosis yesterday,
and that will continue. Yeah, and as Erica said, Charlie's mission was to reach out to
lost young men like the one who took her husband's life, and she said she forgives him.
A remarkable moment from an outstandingly brave individual. Michael Nose, host of The Michael
Nose Show, we appreciate you joining us this morning. Best of luck later today with your
speech later. Great to be with you. Thanks for having me.
