oh we're so it's it's it's it's official
September is the deadest month for
basketball coverage I think August is a
close second but we had the Olympics
fortunately Sophia Jones and I were
about to reach into our bag of
desperation and do a show based on
training camp countdowns pulling all the
gimmicks and then last minute we saw the
news item it dropped of Steve Kerr
talking about the Draymond Green punch
we're going back in time two years
Sophia we're also going to talk about
the WNBA you've got some exciting
Valkyries news but when Steve Kerr talks
about the punch and when you hear the
punch you we're obviously referring to
Draymond Green and Jordan pul that's
newsworthy so let's break it down we're
going to talk about that and so much
more next this is the golden
days they always find something to niit
pick and that's because there's
expectations for us to win it was a
pretty crazy night

like for pretty much my entire duration
of being live the Dolphins have been
very
subpar I remember so it was never really
a team that I wanted to root

the game starts here sopia Jones how the
hell are you doing you're in Florida
right now is the weather as beautiful as
I imagine it and how's life treating
before we get started
weather so one thing that people
actually might not realize about this
time of year for Florida is we're in
Peak hurricane season so it's actually
very muggy very rainy not a ton of
sunshine as one might anticipate but so
it's been really hot and humid as well
but overall we're I'm doing good just
chilling pretty much nice good to see
you well we're uh you know like I said
we were going to talk we're going to
fill content and I absolutely hate doing
that but I'd rather be consistent and
have a show each week even if there's
virtually nothing to talk about but we
were going to do a training camp
countdown and we can still do that later
in the show uh because we the the Finish
Line metaphorically speaking and it's
really more of a starting line is it's
officially in view it's just in the
distance we can see it uh training camp
again begins right I believe on October
1st uh and then they play their first
exhibition game in Hawaii at the
conclusion of that week I believe they
play the Clippers we'll have obviously a
lot more information about that as it
gets closer but then as I do every day I
look up what's going on with the
Warriors I I you know I peruse all of my
my sources all of my my social media
accounts that I have set up just to you
know uh to to consume Warriors
information NBA content and then I saw
on the wire that Steve Kerr uh as a
means of promoting uh registering to
vote which is something every one of you
should be doing out there uh he was on
The Dan leard show Dan is I'm sure
Sophia you're familiar with him being a
Florida native uh he's based out of
there I believe he's a columnist for the
Miami Herald among his work with the
ESPN and other things well he had Steve
Kerr on his program today and the
discussion got interesting because the
question was posed about some of the
difficult moments that Steve Kerr has
had with Draymond Green and why don't we
let the show
fill the rest of it here is Steve Kerr
on The Dan leard show what is the
angriest that you have been at Draymond
Green well there's a lot of examples so
oh
boy yes I would imagine I would imagine
so but what's the first one that jumps
to mind I think that for sure the the
Jordan pool incident um Draymond and I
um are a lot alike in many way people
probably wouldn't see that from the
outside but we're we're both kind of
maniacal competitors and and we've lost
our minds uh with each other during
games over whatever you know
disagreements about strategy uh but he
crossed the line um with Jordan um and
and he knows it he knew it immediately
and it made that season incredibly
difficult for everybody and um you know
it's I that that story has been
regurgitated many times but um yeah
that's um you know that's probably the
time I was most angry and there's your
headline um you guys can tweet this
thank
you I see your team back there right
now all right we'll stop it right there
so basically Steve cert admitting on The
Dan lebatard show today that the most
that the most angry he's ever been with
Draymond Green was the Jordan pool
incident Sophia your immediate reaction
to Steve K's comment
I feel like it's very valid that's that
moment kind of defined how that the
whole rest of the season was the team
really wasn't the same after that and
even though Draymond has had moments in
the past because it was against another
teammate and because it was so public
that footage got released and everyone
was talking about it it really hurt that
team it totally did um
there there's a there's a lot of nuance
to that incident and I know we're two
years removed from it now but uh you
know when when I think back and I
haven't looked at the video in a long
time for some reason one of the first
thoughts that comes to mind is Ron Adams
just not being phased at all like he
never even flinched when that happened
which told me that he was used to it
that this was a very common occurrence
Sophia uh you know you've been around
the NBA for a long time your dad Mark
Jones the voice of the NBA besides the
fact that he's been he's routinely
you know involved in the NBA circles but
he also played D1 basketball just like
you so you you your family is in
trenched deep in basketball culture uh
from what you've heard throughout the
years with stories did the incident with
Draymond Green and Jordan pul surprised
you um like was it something that was
you know like jaw-dropping or or in your
mind was it just you know part for the
course like this happens regularly in in
in practices and and sometimes in locker
rooms there's a lot of testosterone you
know flowing through coursing through
the veins of each athlete in there is
this common to you or or were you taking
back when you first heard about it I was
not
phased I I was not phased at all I think
the real problem became because it got
so much publicity and that footage was
released I feel like that was really
caused the majority of the Fallout but
from being in many different types of
basketball environments at all levels
that stuff really does happen it like I
said it's just because it was in the
view of the public eye that really
caused for it to really fracture the
bond between those two and a little bit
of the team as well absolutely um in
your
opinion if that P if the video of that
punch was never leaked and that's a
whole other story right I mean Bob Meers
excuse me was uh a guest on JJ reck's
podcast uh I believe this was before JJ
reck was hired by the Lakers he's not
doing the podcast thing anymore but JJ
reck asked Bob Myers did you did you
guys ever catch the individual that
leaked that video and and I and I love
Bob Myers for a lot of reasons including
his candidness and he flat out said no
we never found out who leaked it uh so
that person whoever it is uh is still
out there they got away with it so
congratulations I guess and I'm sure
they got a nice payday by TMZ in the
process in your opinion if that video
was never made public would things have
been different I think that they would
have been I feel like because just the
amount of people that were adding their
opinions specifically to Jordan pool
because he was the
recipient of the action it really you
know it takes a takes a lot on a person
when in such a large light you're
getting punched no one wants a video of
them getting punched circulating
throughout so I feel like if it was a
more contained scenario I don't think it
would have had the same Fallout as it
did totally agree with you because with
with the video getting leaked suddenly
Jordan P there's you know the the ego
side of it comes into play right I mean
he got humiliated there's no other you
know way to spin that it's it's not a
good look to get punched and and
basically I don't know if he was like
literally knocked out but you know I
don't I didn't see him throwing punches
back I saw him collapse after he was on
the receiving end it wasn't a good look
and the fact that it it became public
like you said uh you know definitely
made it a lot worse than it was and then
Kev F in the chat brings up something I
think is a great point which is that
Steve Kerr the head coach that we just
listened to himself was on the receiving
end of a punch in practice which I think
plays off with you and I have been
saying about the fact that this is a a
fairly common thing this was not out of
the norm and Steve Kerr got punched by
Michael Jordan took the punch uh wanted
to actually did Steve Curt throw the
punch first I can't I I think Jordan did
do do you remember I I'm brain farting
right now but do you remember exactly
how that went down I can't remember who
threw the first punch first punch in
that scenario I think it was Jordan
though maybe was Steve Kerr you remember
I wasn't around for that so I honestly
don't know you saw the Last Dance right
I mean they they talk about I did yeah
no I can't remember I can't remember I
think actually Steve Kerr threw punched
Jordan in the chat
and then and then Jordan threw a punch
at Steve K's face I think that's how it
went down but the point is this stuff
happens and it got leaked which made it
worse let me ask you this I and you know
I'm gonna break some news right here on
the show today all right um and and I'm
curious to to get your uh reaction to
this Sophia uh and this has never been
reported but the the the from what I
learned two years ago the the either the
day of or the day before Draymond Green
had learned that he lost custody of I
believe his youngest child um little Dre
right and I don't know if you if you
folks are aware of this but like little
Dre used to be around like all the time
like you'd see him at press conferences
you'd see him at practices you'd see him
at games and he's an adorable kid right
and and then but we haven't seen him
much recently the last years there's
been an absence of Dre Jr and from what
I've
learned uh it's because he lost the
custody battle and these things are
obviously
family dichotomies and the you know the
the dynamic of it it's it's complicated
you know I don't want to delve into you
know just the ugliness of custody battle
battles and stuff but my question to you
Sophia is do you feel like in any regard
given that Draymond Green was likely
having an awful day all right like like
when you get news like that you're not
feeling good I'm not excusing Draymond
Green throwing the punch but but given
that he was going through it and dealing
with L does that change your Viewpoint
at all or do you think Draymond Green is
just still flat out no excuse just was
wrong to do what he did what are your
thoughts on
that I think he still was in the wrong
in that situation I'm very much a peace
person I don't really like violence like
that and I remember so last two
semesters ago I took a stress management
class and one of the things that they
taught us was that despite all the
stimulus that you might be receiving you
always have to create space between that
and your reactions and I think no matter
what type of stimulus and what's going
on that you're receiving you have to
have that capacity to be able to think
before you react pretty much absolutely
know that's and and regardless of what's
going on in your life there is no excuse
or justification for violence um it's
just Draymond was having a bad day it's
a it was just an ugly situation all
around but um do you have any thoughts
on Steve Kerr and Draymond Green's
relationship like it's a fascinating one
right it's to me it's very reminiscent
of Phil Jackson the way he coached uh uh
Dennis Rodman and handled Rodman right
it's it's uh someone who I don't know if
unstable is the right word but maybe
volatile very emotional right um
certainly
passionate um what are your thoughts on
on Steve Kerr's job managing Draymond
green because I I commend him for it I
don't think draymond's an easy person to
coach what are your
thoughts well like he said in the
interview clip as well at both of their
core they are competitors and I think
that if you can at least have a common
ground that you can find and you both
have the same goal and end result end
result that you want to achieve you
should be able to kind of get past
anything any type of disagreement that
they might be working through especially
when you have such fiery
individuals but I think that Steve KR
does have a very tough job especially
there might even be sometimes when
Draymond does Express himself maybe more
than he should and in the back of Coach
Kerr's mind he's like I kind of agree
with what he did but at the end of the
day you have to be like you can't do
that no yeah you you're absolutely right
it's there just the no matter what
you're going through you're you're
you're not going to get a free pass for
violence that's the bottom line um and
look Jordan that that the whole incident
was ugly the the the year it is we the
warriors failed in defending the
championship it's weird that they won 44
games and got the six seed then the next
year they wi 46 and they're a playing
team but that's how it went um but
Jordan pool was traded we all know that
right after the season he got after they
won the title he got a big contract then
he then the following season the
production didn't necessarily match the
salary in terms of what expectations are
what the team was hoping to get back so
he gets traded to the Wizards and the
player that they got from that was Chris
Paul you you get Chris Paul for a one
year rental and now Chris Paul's gone
and Jordan P's gone and I feel like the
only thing they got from all that was
salary cap relief or maybe luxury tax
relief right which is fine I mean the
lake have spent a lot of money to
maintain that dynasty and and I I'm
always going to sit here and tell
people Joel lob's an awesome owner in
the sense that he actually cares he's
willing to spend the money he's not
perfect I'm not sitting here defending
every action he's done but in terms of
adding some perspective relation to
other sports owners out there I think
Joel lob is one of the best and I think
the Barry is lucky to have an owner like
Joel lob who who wants to win who's not
complacent who cares more about the
pocketbook than he does about the talent
on the court um so with all that said
and and and the reason why I bring all
this up is because d57 in the chat says
if Brandon pky who I think is the person
who has now unofficially replaced that
Jordan pool piece right if Brandon pky
brings his three-point shooting around
40% which I think is very possible
everyone's going to forget Jordan P um
and and d57 you add in the chat you know
psky is already a better rebounder
without saying a better Defender yes uh
what are your thoughts Sophia on Brandon
psky maybe being that that Cog that
finally fills the void in the Warriors
machine since Jordan p regressed and
then Chris Paul came and left I agree I
think he can definitely step in and fill
those shoes like um the chat mentioned
with his defense and rebounding are
already better he does a lot of the
little things like taking charges moving
off the ball so when you have enough of
that stuff put together along with just
bringing up that scoring a little bit he
can definitely be that type that role
type player that the Warriors had in
Jordan pool that helped them win the
championship do you feel bad for Jordan
Paul like like some people sit here I I
see it in social media a lot like people
feel bad that he's with the Wizards he
went from being you know with an
organization that is well respected he
you know won a championship two years
ago and now he's Meed in a Wizards
organization that I don't think is is
widely uh respected in the league
they're they have the same reputation as
the Warriors and Clippers did 30 years
ago um do you feel bad for Jordan Paul
or or do you or are you what your
thoughts on Jordan Paul's current
situation it's one of those things where
he probably after the Draymond situation
he probably was ready to step away from
the war
with the Wizards he kind of is the guy
there between him and kak kusma so he's
able to run that team as his own the
problem is they're just not very good
currently but for him feeling that he
does kind of that he is able to kind of
run that team does provide a little bit
more Comfort than I I hope that will
help to fill some of that Warriors void
yes yeah absolutely um and again if if
for any of you out there who feel bad
for Jordan PA just remember he is a
multi- multi-millionaire and he he gets
paid to play basketball so um I
understand Washington's probably a lot
more difficult than it was than the the
Warriors although maybe that last season
was hard as well but um the pool party
man we we should yeah it's it is the
whole thing was just crazy I mean one
minute he's like the future of the
Warriors you know he was in a
fundamental piece of a
championship and just two years removed
now we're talking about this um before
we talk about the WNBA and the Valkyries
I know Sophia you have a lot of
information and you become my my uh
leading voice for the wnb I'm getting
more and more into it just by you
teaching me and the audience about it um
some Warriors training camp notes
because it's just around the corner and
and this information does not bear a ton
of relevance uh and Sophia if you have
any thing you want to add or if you
disagree at any point please jump in um
but I I never really get that excited
about train Camp invites just because
these players don't typically make the
final roster they're there mostly to
provide competition for the players
currently on the team but according to
Mike Scotto of Hoops Hypes uh the Golden
State Warriors have added um Javon or is
it Javon or Javin Johnson I don't know
how to pronounce his first name and
Dante Scott do either of those names
sound familiar to you do you know
anything about these
players I'm not in entirely
familiar same but yeah uh and either
it's Javon or Javon and I sincerely
apologize for not knowing the
pronunciation of the name uh but he did
play for Santa Cruz last year he played
14 games and so he got invited to to
training camp uh another player nser
little I believe was also invited to
training camp um he's had some NBA
experience uh in the past and then we
never really touched on Davis bton um as
well because he was in the news a couple
weeks weeks ago I don't know if you have
any thoughts on that bton is like a
69ine dude who can shoot the three uh I
was a little intrigued when I saw his
name being mentioned as a training camp
invite and then a day later he if we
find out excuse me that uh he turned
down the invite to go play
internationally which is what a lot of
players are doing now uh Sophia any
thoughts on Bon's on uh training camp
rosters
fireway well you mentioned bons that
potentially could have been someone that
would have been a little exciting to add
to the work Warriors roster but you
mentioned that he signed a contract to
go play internationally he not only
internationally but he signed with BC
Dubai which they're going to be in their
first year and if there's if that team
kind of follows along the trend with
some of the other local team areas he
most likely got a pretty lucrative
contract that was hard to turn away espe
especially compared to what the Warriors
proba would have offered him yeah
there's a lot of players like like
Patrick Beverly is going
International uh there's a few other
names out there that I'm bringing
farting I think Evan fornier I believe
is is playing internationally uh I you
could fill in the blanks on anyone else
that I'm forgetting about um but then
Bruce marrow I think is is very accurate
in saying that bruton's cannot play
defense that is that was the biggest
negative with bretton's play and it's
why I think he's not in the NBA now is
defensively he was a bit of a liability
um but I think that's also a great segue
to uh WNBA discussion because Bruce
marrow in the chat also brings up is it
a Wilson is that how you pronounce it
please correct me I'm sorry it's Asia
Wilson Asia okay thank you and that's
that's my naivity I apologize for that
Asia Wilson's gonna win MVP this year or
she's the favorite is that correct
Sophia she's the favorite for MVP and he
brings up her defense and she's also
looking to seek another Defensive Player
of the Year award as well so she's
really one of the best allaround players
that the WNBA has seen in its history
honestly a and who does she play for
Asia Wilson she plays for the Las Vegas
Aces okay they were last year's
Champions she was last year's finals MVP
and yeah and she actually she just
became the first WNBA player to score a
th000 points in a single season
a couple days ago so she's really having
a historic playing season so far this
year and she's a center is she is does
she dominate the middle like sha did
what what is what is the the the comp
that you could think of in terms of Asia
Wilson what is her NBA equivalent to
that to to maybe help me get a better
idea of how she
plays that's a good
question it's funny
because
um it's rumored but not really that she
is dating Bam adabo from the Miami Heat
and I feel like they kind of actually do
have similar games aside from the fact
that Asia is more mobile and I feel like
she's a better shooter and more
aggressive I'm honest I'm having issues
thinking of an NBA comp just because she
is such a unique
player but i'
almost when thinking of her two-way
ability between and scoring
rebounding everything I would
almost say there's some that there's a
little bit of Lebron in her honestly oo
yeah w wow so she's like she's just a so
she you're saying that she's got skills
offensively in in addition to being a
force she's very skilled yes so and
again I'm I'm such a noob to all this
NVA stuff so so please forgive me I I am
admittedly naive and when it comes to a
lot of this stuff um so I'm I'm learning
as we go here the Vegas uh Las Vegas
Aces right now Asia Wilson's team
they're they're currently four they have
the fourth best record in the WNBA uh so
you're saying they won the title last
year why what's what's preventing them
from winning the title this year like
why are they not the
favorites aside from Asia some of the
other players on the team have just been
a little little bit inconsistent as well
as their point guard Chelsea Gray she
was out with an Achilles injury at the
beginning of the Season which their
record faltered during that time that
she was out but since she's been back
they've been able to pick it back up um
Bruce marrow in the chat by the way uh I
don't know if you agree with this or not
Bruce Bruce is a huge WNBA fan uh saying
that nefisa is more LeBron um but but he
also respects your your your point
nafisa Kier can you enlighten me and the
audience on on her
game her game also is she has very good
touch and she does a lot of back to the
basket moves as well as just working
around the paint and doing turnarounds I
almost see a little bit more of a Kevin
Durant in Aisa Coler interesting on the
offensive side more so especially
because she's tall and lanky as well
interesting all right look at you like
you're teaching me you're teaching
everyone else and look at you're you're
impressing the audience s Paradise in
the chat or Paradise uh saying Sophia
you have Poise that's a compliment that
is not everyone has
Point yeah I agree thank you for the
compliment uh well deserved um here's a
question for for you real fast uh you
know one of the the biggest stars in the
WNBA is
Sabrina iosu is that how do you
pronounce your last name I'm so sorry
uncu uncu okay thank you for that I
apologize so Sabrina
uncu what like why is she not this like
like what makes Caitlyn Clark so much
better than her I feel like a year or
two ago when she was drafted I believe
first overall uh everyone was looking at
her as like the next great thing but now
Caitlyn Clark is like the star of the W
WNBA what separates Caitlyn Clark's game
from
sabrinas I would honestly say that in
terms of
player to player there's not a ton of
Separation it's just because right now
Sabrina nesu is on the best team in the
WNBA so she has a lot more to work with
and she takes on a little bit of a
different role than Caitlyn Clark does
on the Indiana Fever so I would say
that's kind of the biggest difference
because Sabrina was able to step into a
role where she had MVP Briana Stewart on
her team so
okay yes so that she had help and
Caitlyn definitely does have help as
well Kelsey Mitchell in the back or has
been playing amazingly Aaliyah Boston
was the first overall pick last year as
well but it's just not the same level as
the New York Liberty have gotcha and is
it is it in terms of making me
understand better their games uh is
enescu more of a two and Caitlin Clark
more of a one or is that not accurate
like how are their POS how are they
positionally Sabrina definitely is on
ball a lot so I would say she's a one
when they play against each other I
believe they do match up a lot of the
times with Sabrina I would say maybe
she's just not as streaky of a shooter
in terms of off the dribble she does
have really good I mean we saw in that
Three-Point Contest against Steph Curry
she's an incredible three-point shoot
but pulling doing step back pull-ups
three feet away from the three-point
line isn't as much in her bag as it is
kitlin Clark's but Sabrina's passing
ability and playmaking ability is
definitely there you know we saw a great
uh event at the All-Star Game this past
season the NBA All-Star game where Steph
and enescu had a Three-Point Shootout um
and Steph barely hung on to win that but
it was it was arguably the highlight of
the whole weekend um if we see something
like that again only instead of unes
uncu I'm so sorry man I I I hope I'm
pronouncing that correctly uh if you
replace incu with Caitlyn Clark does
Steph still win or is that a whole
different
beast that's a tough
one that's honestly
because it's really comes
down it this might sound like a little
bit of a copout answer but it really
comes down down to who is having a
better night because we've seen Steph
not be as successful in the Three-Point
Contest before we haven't really seen
much of Caitlyn doing much of
three-points contest because it is
different mechanics when you have to
pick a ball up from the rack and get to
your pocket and shoot so it's a little
bit some of these discrepancies that can
matter but I can definitely see both of
them putting up a fight toward each
other and I think that would be
something that would be really exciting
again to have this Allstar Weekend is is
uncu and Clark are they the two biggest
stars in the WNBA right now or are there
other who else can you include in that
group as like the faces of the league
like I feel like those two are the top
but but maybe I'm wrong
uh how would you respond to that I would
say when you look at the face of the
league strictly on who is the best
player it has to be Asia Wilson she has
the Nike commercial she has the Gatorade
commercial she's getting her own shoe
coming out soon so I think that the WNBA
has stepped up in promoting Asia Wilson
as they should because in terms of pure
dominance I believe she is the face of
the WNBA but in terms of
popularity Caitlyn Clark is someone that
because we saw her rise during college a
lot of people do tune in to watch her
her play and among some of the other
rookie class and uh d57 in the chat
there I love that I love how so many
people in the chat are like like in tune
with this um and again I I will not
pretend I'm an expert this is Sophia
this is your Turf and I'm I'm your
student in this regard uh Bruce marrow
would you agree with his assessment that
Caitlin Clark's a better point guard but
uncu is a better player is that a fair
assessment I feel like that is fair and
unu's game is a little bit more refined
at this stage and like I said she is on
a better team but when you watch enescu
play she does play with a little bit
more uh
Poise then Caitlyn she's a little bit
stronger she doesn't get those technical
fouls like Caitlyn picks up so I do feel
like UNESCO is maybe a little bit more
of an better overall well-rounded
player but as Matt says Clark could
overtake her with Clark it's really just
if she gets her field goal percentage
going up and her turnovers to go down
she could be a very generational player
and what about bana Stewart I hear her
name mentioned a lot um where does she
fit in with all the top players in the
WNBA she's up there so she's last year's
MVP Oh I thought as Wilson was my bad
Asia Wilson was the finals MVP last year
all right yeah but so Brianna s she's an
MVP in her own right she's on the New
York Liberty so that team is number one
for a reason and she's a big part of
that I believe she had a big 30o game
the other night I can't remember her
exact number but she is very
high-scoring and she'll put a team on
her back and get Buckets so so that is
okay so the New York Liberty basically
have two like Mega Stars leading that
team and that's why they have the best
record in the WNBA right now um at 31-7
and you mentioned uh you texted me that
Asia Wilson uh did we already cover this
like she was the first player to score a
thousand points in a single season was
that this
year yes so a couple days ago she hit
that Milestone and even in the season
she's averaging 27 points per game and
12 rebounds for game so she's yeah she's
really just been on a tear
that's crazy and how do you explain
Caitlyn Clark like her assist numbers
she leads the WNBA in assist I always
think of her as more of like a a a two
guard even though I know she handles the
ball her her game is clearly very
similar to Stephen Curry right like like
a ball handling scorer uh who's just
we've never seen anyone else like it in
terms of shooting but the assist thing
like how do you explain
that I would say because of Caitlyn's
shooting ability you you see a lot where
players will play up on her and she I
and she uses that to just either drive
past which then creates people to draw
and she's kicks out in the same way with
Steph when he's on the court he's just
such a gravitational force that the
defense is drawn towards Caitlyn is a
little bit of the same as well as she
gets a lot of her points because she
just pushes the pace a lot so when you
watch the fever play they play really
fast so there'll be a lot of possessions
where she'll get rebound or somewhere
else will get a rebound and they'll just
push and so she gets some of those
assists literally from just taking one
dribble and throwing it up towards the
rim to a Aaliyah Boston just running the
floor and it's really exciting to watch
it sounds exciting um and I know the
playoffs are just around the corner and
I want to ask you some questions about
that in just a moment uh Matt Brotherton
though in the chat um asked a question
will I be covering the Valkyries when
they're officially they're already
officially a team I think you're asking
when they actually start playing um and
my answer to that is Sophia Jones will
be covering the team I will be the
sidekick I will be alongside Sophia's
coverage Sophia if you're down forward
once the season does start for the
Valkyries next year I'm totally down
with hosting a postgame show after every
game if you are I'm on board for that um
any anything you want to add to that
Sophia yeah I would I would love to I'm
so excited about the Valkyries I just
they just released um a couple pictures
of their new practice facility that
they're building in in Oakland that
looks state-ofthe-art as well as their
locker room in Chase Center and they
actually just the other day I believe
about four days ago they became the
first woman sports team to have over
177,000 season ticket deposits so
there's a lot of support and people
eager to be a a part of this journey
that the Valkyries are about to embark
on I I'm not I I don't blame you if you
don't have an answer for this question
it's it's very nuanced but I am curious
are there any season tickets left or did
they clean house do you know I I'm not
sure but because they will be playing in
Chase Center which is an 18,000 seat
venue so I'm not entirely sure how
that's going to work but it sounds like
the Valkyries will be playing in amongst
a lot of fans and crowds but Night by
night which will be really exciting to
see come next May oh yeah absolutely and
that's C I've always wanted to be a
season ticket holder I didn't grow up
with money so I could never do it as a
kid and I almost was a season ticket
holder in 2008 for the warriors uh my
buddy backed out last minute we were
going to do it together and I'm sure he
regrets it to this day but um the fact
that that that's a possibility for the
WNBA side is fascinating I I you got me
but you're right it's probably sold out
by now um and Bruce Maro is adding as
well better get those WNBA stocks now it
is booming I don't think they're a
publicly traded company but I understand
the metaphor um and Matt Brotherton I I
I agree that expansion is always full of
chaos and fun super exciting and we're
gonna Rebrand the the the episodes that
Sophia you come on we're gonna have a a
rebranded name for the program just a
slight variation from uh the name that
we currently have which is Golden Days
Like I said NBA coast to coast is a
weekly NBA show I do with Casey's third
and we're going to come up with a cool
name for this program where we talk
about uh in addition to the Warriors
we'll cover WNBA and the Valkyries as
well anything we uh you that we did not
touch upon in terms of the WNBA the
Valkyries when do the playoffs start I
know that's just around the corner right
the playoffs start Sunday so there are
games going on right now and there are
games on Thursday to kind of determine
some of that last seating so those will
be fun to and competitive to watch but
playoffs starts Sunday so that'll really
be exciting to see and that's that is
exciting to see so we so we don't know
yet is I'm looking at the standings
right now and it seems like seven of the
eight slots are determined meaning
clinched uh but the number eight seed
right now oh there's such a drop off in
record like the Indiana Fever for
example the six seed they have a 20 and9
record the seven seed who clinched
getting to the playoffs of the Phoenix
Mercury they're 18 and 20 so they're
still lurking
looming at the 500 Mark but then the e
seed right now is a battle between what
looks like three teams and I'm sorry are
you familiar with this you want to take
it away in terms of the battle for the
eight seed are you are you well yeah
yeah so the Washington Mystics Chicago
sky and Atlanta Dream are all tied right
now for that eighth seed so between the
games that are going on today on
Thursday and that will determine who
gets that last spot and it'll just come
down to which team loses and um if this
team loses but this team has to win so
that'll be really interesting to see
because yeah just it's always
interesting to see who gets that last
spot and especially for WNBA there's no
play in tournament so whoever gets that
e thought is in right right and someday
there will be there will be a play I
mean and wmb is going to be expanding
for many years to come uh like I said
right now there are 12 teams total uh
the Val will be number 13 when the
Valkyries jump into the league next year
are they the going to be the only
expansion so meaning like next season
it's going to be 13 teams total or there
two teams uh going next season is going
to be just the Valkyries but the season
after that Toronto will be getting a
WNBA team and now it's being actually
rumored that Portland might get a WNBA
team so that'll be another exciting West
Coast team tomorrow yeah absolutely
there's a lot of cities that I imagine
the WNBA would thrive in I could see San
Diego being a good team San Diego's a
weird market like uh like the the NBA
tried there for a lot of years and I
don't think they're ever going back that
there's just too much going on for there
to be a passionate fan base with that
said at least during my time living
there the interest in women's basketball
is a whole different level like I could
see San Diego thriving you mentioned uh
Portland I don't know if Seattle Seattle
doesn't have a team do they oh they do
yeah okay all right so that's covered
and they're actually the five seed right
now currently at 24 and 14 Bruce marrow
in the chat is asking is it too soon for
awards discussions like like Sophia are
you do you have uh any selections or do
you want to save this maybe from next
week in terms of WNBA Awards uh any
favorites to win the whole thing what do
you think should we do it now or or save
that for next week's show I'll do it now
why not um all right love it I would say
definitely my my MVP would have to go to
Asia Wilson my rookie of the year would
be Caitlyn Clark and then I would say
defensive player of the
year I would go
with I will go with nafisa nafisa Coler
yeah I've been I really have been
enjoying watching her play and the links
play this season so she's the star of
the links is she's the primary reason
they're as good as they are yes I would
say so yeah the yeah so right now the
standings again the New York Liberty are
first with the 31- seven record and the
Minnesota links two games back at 29- n
uh and then you have the Connecticut Sun
who's third the Las Vegas Aces who are
fourth the Seattle Storm who plays for
the Seattle Storm that I would know is
there anyone on there that that has some
brand recognition or is that is a lot of
uh is it an underdog type team like like
what does the Storm's roster
construction look like the storm so they
have juel Lloyd I don't know if you've
seen any of the State Farm commercials
yes where um she's like she goes into
someone's house that has a leak and
she's like dribbling and stuff so that's
J Lloyd that's her okay okay thank you
for that thank you for that I wondered
who that was NECA gum is another very
talented player on that roster that is
fun to see that is fun to watch she's a
former Sparks player as well so she
comes in with some Championship toage
but yeah that storm that storm team they
do have some history they've been in the
championship discussions recently
definitely but they're an exciting team
to watch as well I'll say one of their
Premier players even though she just
retired is
subir oh yeah yeah yeah AB okay there we
go that uh and her name is very
recognizable Bruce marrow is just a fan
of the WNBA he agrees with your your
selections but he also adds a coach of
the year who does reev uh coach so
that's Cheryl reev so that's for the
Indiana Fever ah do you agree should she
be be a coach of the
year see what's interesting about that
choice is because when the fever were
struggling a little bit at the beginning
of the Season there are so many people
calling for her to be fired o actually
but I actually really do commend her
ability to be able to turn the team
around and get them going and playing
that the way that they have
been absolutely she could be in the
discussion especially because of the
type of turnaround that the team
had and what about most improved uh I
see Carrington mentioned by Bruce Morrow
your thoughts I am a d Carrington fan
so she plays on the Connecticut sun and
I feel like she has been a part of their
success story this season they're the
fourth seed right now in the league or
no they're the third seed right now in
the league and she is one of the best
defensive players in the league I feel
like
personally and in addition to that she's
really stepped up her offensive game
this season so I think most improved for
Carrington is a very well deserved award
she's actually a um she graduated from
Stanford as well so there's a little bit
of a bay area connection graduated from
Stanford and played her grad year at
Baylor but she's always been a very
fiery fun player to watch I love it um
and and I think it's safe to say right
Paige Beckers is who we're all rooting
for for the Valkyries is that a safe bet
is she the is she like the player in
college basketball the the likely number
one pick yeah
I would say she's she's one of the
number one picks and along with Kiki
Irfan iraan she was a Stanford player
and she transferred to USC to play this
upcoming season she is a long forward
that is really just dominant as well but
I would say based on Whoever has the
better season those would definitely be
some of the T those are predicted to be
the top two picks why would Bruce Maro
say that the valkyrie have no chance of
getting or is it are they not going to
get the number one pick is that is that
determined it just yeah it might be a
little bit hard based off of how the
expansion works and the likelihood of
getting number one pick while it's slim
hopefully it's not impossible but I even
remember seeing a tweet by Paige Beckers
when the valkyri came out with their
branding release she said that it's the
best colorway in sports so hopefully
she's already leading towards wanting to
come to the Bay Area how do they
determine in the WNBA who gets what pick
because I mean obviously every Sport's
different right the NFL it's strictly
based on a hierarchy of worst record
gets the number one pick and so forth uh
in in the NBA you have a a draft lottery
uh where the worst your you the worst
your record is the higher your chances
are but there's no guarantees uh to put
it in perspective the worst team in the
W I'm sorry the worst team in the NBA
has approximately a 14% chance of
getting the top pick how does that work
in the WNBA like like uh is it the same
system is it different enlighten me
please it's similar where they go
through a certain type of Lottery where
you might not NE like that's the same
reason why with the NBA they try to
prevent just flat out
tanking so
that's why with the Valkyries whatever
kind of weight they're
assigned that would give them the
likelihood for a top pick are they given
like the same weight as as the team with
worst record because sometime I've seen
in years past some expansion teams they
don't hand them the top picks right like
they don't want to give them any any
Edge just because they're an expansion
team do the Valkyries are they going to
have the same odds as the worst team or
they gonna what do you do anything about
that I'm not fam familiar with the
precise language surrounding that gotcha
okay
um Xavier Ortiz in the chat saying it
should be the first pick after the
lottery so perhaps the fifth pick okay
so Paige Becker's it looks like she's
not going to land with the Valkyries
unless there's a some A Stroke of Luck
um which is unfortunate I well I hope
the Valkyries get someone fantastic I
think it's we're all rooting for that if
you're if you're a Valkyries fan Sophia
always a pleasure you have enlightened
me you Enlighten the audience uh the
WNBA discussion is awesome um how can
people so you said this week's the final
week and the playoffs starts Sunday is
that correct yes how are we watching all
this like you mentioned that I still
don't know what Eon or ion is I which is
you said is a former like CW so I got to
find ion but like how does it work like
in the NBA you know there's basketball
games Thursday night on TNT you know
Wednesday and Friday night there's games
on ESPN you know Monday night it's going
to be on NBA TV Saturday nights got some
sometimes got ABC's got your National
coverage when NFL's done Sundays uh you
you have National coverage on ABC Andor
ESPN how does that work in in the WNBA
is there a structure like that or is it
random I just want to be able to catch
these games how can I do
so so overall you can get WNBA league
pass to be able to catch some of the
non-televised games tonight there are
two two games on NBA TV and one on CBS
Sports Network and then on Thursday
there's one game on NBA TV and another
game on Prime video okay and then once
the playoffs start rolling around we'll
start seeing probably more games on ESPN
and ABC and National Television that'll
be easy to follow I can't wait I cannot
wait for that um I I know it's uh it's
it's early in Caitlin Clark's career
she's a rookie but what chances do you
give the Indiana Fever of making noise
are they are they is is it going to be a
oneand done are they going to be in the
first round and knocked out like what
chances do you give the Indiana Fever in
Caitlin Clark's first
year I think because those top four
teams in the standings are so strong I
would be surprised if they are able to
make it out of the first round I don't
think they will completely just strike
out and get swept but I would those
those F first four teams in the league
are pretty stacked okay yeah so it's the
first four and then it's the
rest that's fair that's fair the NBA's
like that too um Bruce marrow was saying
they could the fever can beat the sun uh
yeah that's the only team that I think
might give a that The Fever might have
the most of a chance against because
they do they have had some success
against them in the past interesting
yeah is it is it does it work out where
it's like one versus eight two versus
seven is that how the playoffs breaks
down yes I believe so okay well yeah
then right now uh if the if the season
ended today you would have the
Connecticut sun and the Indiana Fever in
the first round so maybe we can get a
first round upset there similar to
Stephen Curry's first year in the
playoffs where if you have forgotten out
there folks Stephen Curry's Warriors
upset the number 3C Denver Nuggets in
the first round um and the rest was
history so there you go and we missed
any last thoughts anything you want to
add are we good are we done your
thoughts I think we about yeah I think
we about covered everything love it love
it well thank you oh sorry goe no yeah I
would just say that if any like you if
anyone is interested in getting the
season tickets for the Valkyries I would
recommend doing it soon because they're
really flying off the shelves beautiful
beautiful yeah and then and pounce on
that because those tickets will be worth
something I promise you that
uh Sophia thank you as always for the
phenomenal work uh you do a great job
