Happy Monday night, everybody. It's an unusual time for the program, but look, the NFL isn't
starting yet, so that cavernous hole in the fiber and the fabric of American society that we know
as Monday night football, it's not here yet. So let me fill that hole for you with some
incredible content, courtesy of Draymond Green. He called out his coach, his head coach,
Steve Kerr. Let's break that down. It's not every day this happens. Should be a good time.
Might be a short yet very sweet episode of Golden Days. Let's rock and roll. Here we go.
They always find something to nitpick, and that's because there's expectations for us to win.
It was a pretty crazy night.
Let's go.
In a minute, I'ma need a sentimental man or woman to pump me up.
Finally got that new Opie, baby!
Welcome to the Golden Days. I am your host, Cyrus Sotsis. You can follow me on threads,
on Instagram, at Dogwild. And yes, I am over on that cesspool, a pathetic excuse of a social
media platform for a social media platform, I apologize, aka Twitter. I'm there, at Surf
Journalist. The program is there as well, at Golden Days Pod. Welcome. Good evening. It is
Monday night. Normally, on Mondays, we broadcast at 1 p.m. Pacific time with my boy Casey Stern.
We do a more general NBA landscape program. We call it NBA Coast to Coast, but life happens
every once in a while. Casey Stern has a lot going on, so him and I are gonna reunite later this week
to make up for that episode. But I wasn't gonna do a show today. This is the absolute slowest
time of the year. But I happened to come across some interesting comments from Draymond Green.
And it was on his podcast. What is it called? The Draymond Green Show? Sure, why not? And he
talked about his head coach, Steve Kerr. And we're gonna get into that, because it's some good stuff.
Nona Coffee, good evening. Nona Coffee, I apologize for that. Bailey Bauer, a regular
of the program. A Golden Dazer, is that a good name for the audience? Good to see you, friend.

and let's hear from Dre directly. I'm going to wrap up the show again. This is going to be a
short and very sweet show. It is Monday night. It's kind of late. And again, there's just absolutely
nothing going on in hoops outside of the Olympics and some interesting tidbits about Larry Markinan,
some updates on him, because we may find out in the next day or two whether or not the dream will
become a reality or whether Danny Ainge is going to make a mistake as a GM. If Danny Ainge forces
himself into a situation where Larry Markinan is guaranteed to be on that Utah Jazz roster
for the entire season, thus jeopardizing Utah's hopes of getting Cooper Flag,
that's a huge fumble by Danny Ainge. He doesn't fumble the ball often, but that would be one of
them if he's getting a little too greedy. And it might happen. I'll explain what I mean
in just a moment. But first and foremost, Draymond Green again. This flew a little bit
under the radar. He hosted his show on Saturday, and he went full NBA podcast mode. What I mean by
that is he did what we like to do on this program normally. Call out Steve Kerr for the utter
insanity, the nonsensical, illogical decisions that we routinely see Steve Kerr do. And those
mistakes are almost always with personnel. And those mistakes are now in the global limelight,
courtesy of the Olympics. And we're seeing some DNPs from players. Now, what drew a lot of
attention, and Casey Stern and I last week spent a good amount of time talking about it, but just
to rehash, given this was the primary focus of Draymond Green's show, Steve Kerr DNP Jason Tatum
in the first Olympics game. And the question was raised, how the hell do you do that? I mean,
look, they won. They beat Serbia. So if the only concern of yours is wins and losses,
then you probably don't understand what the big deal is. But if you pay attention to the nuance
of things, it's a huge deal. Jason Tatum was groomed to be one of the next international
superstars for Team USA. He played the second most minutes in a gold medal affair in 2021.
And he got rewarded for that with a DNP in 2024. That did not escape Draymond Green's radar.
And in this first of two clips I'm playing, I'm going to highlight what Draymond said about
the Tatum decision and how it just made no damn sense. Didn't make sense at all. Let's hear from
Draymond Green, one of the greatest defenders in the history of the NBA, one of the greatest
defensive players in the history of the NBA, four-time champion. Dude has an immensely high
basketball IQ. And he ripped on his coach, Steve Kerr. Let's hear from Dray. You just don't not
play Jason Tatum in game one of the Olympics. Because pretty much what that is saying is,
if I get Jason Tatum in for 9 to 11 minutes, because no one's looking at the minutes like,
oh, this guy played less. Like I said to JT, when you win a gold medal, no one cares who scored the
points. No one cares who played the minute. Did you win a gold medal or did you not?
That's what it boils down to. Did you win a gold medal? Did you not? However,
you don't not play Jason Tatum. That man just won an NBA championship,
cover of NBA 2K, cover of Sports Illustrated saying, cheers. Just signed the biggest contract
in NBA history. Oh, and by the way, your reward is sit down and don't play in the first Olympic game.
Now, if you watched the exhibition games, JT didn't play well in the exhibition game. I don't
care. Like, it actually doesn't matter. And so, I was a little taken back by that. Like,
there's usually always two to three guys on the Olympic team that don't play many minutes,
just kind of how it shakes out. If you're coming into the game one of the Olympics
against a Serbia team that can't compete, like Jokers, great. And it stops there. Like,
no one else can compete at the level except Joker. So, like, love Serbia as a country,
but they can't compete with Team USA. And we know that. Like, just watch. I mean, we've seen it a
couple of times now, actually, but I've been through this. So, when you're going into that
game, my thought process was, if you're not going to play two guys, the two guys you're probably not
going to play is Tyrese and Derek White. Reason being, Drew is great in this. He moves the ball,
he attacks the paint, breaks the defense down, then he drives and kicks. He makes all the hustle
plays. He's defending the best guard. That's what Drew does. So, Drew going to play. Obviously,
Steph playing. Obviously, Ant-Man playing. D-Book has been the X-Factor. So, when you start looking
at the guards, Steph is Steph. Ant-Man is more special than everybody. Drew has already won a
gold medal, so he knows what it takes. He knows what has to be done. Jason Tatum has won a gold
medal. He knows what it takes. He knows what has to be done. And in 2021, when we won the 2020
Olympics, but it was in 2021 for those that forgot. Pandemic pushed it back a year. 2020 Olympics.
Our team, our offense was built around Jason Tatum and Kevin Durant. And it was almost kind
of set up as though like KD was passing the torch to JT to now take it because at the time,
I don't think Kevin's mind was set on Paris. I don't think really anyone was looking to Paris.
You're coming out of a pandemic. No one's really even thinking about it. But I think
that was kind of this foregone conclusion or thought that like, yeah, he's passing the torch
to JT. And then JT come out and not play. I couldn't believe that. But in not playing him,
it was wrong. We all know it was wrong. He should play. He didn't, but he should have played.
So it was wrong. And we know that it was wrong. And who made that decision? Steve Kerr,
Draymond Green's head coach. So it was, it was absurd. And I made that the exact same point
that regardless of the results, there was just no justification for not playing Jason Tatum
and DNP him in that first game. I don't care if Derek White is a good quote unquote fit.
I don't care if Drew Holliday is an exceptional defender. I don't care if Joel Embiid is a
monster of a human being size-wise and is one of the best centers in the game.
To DNP Jason Tatum is wild. Jason Tatum is a better shooter than Derek White and Drew Holliday.
Jason Tatum is a better defensive player than those two guys. Jason Tatum can handle the ball
just as well as those two guys. He's a better passer. He's a bigger player in general,
which matters in basketball. It made no damn sense. And, and Bailey Bauer in the chat is asking,
is Kerr used to criticism from Dray not publicly? No. And it's, it's, it is interesting because a
lot of people, there's a lot of people out there who have this mindset of, if I follow the right
reporters, if I follow the right individuals who cover basketball and the Warriors, I can get all
the information I need to have a pretty well-rounded picture of what's really going on with,
let's say the Golden State Warriors. And I've said this before and I've said it again.
What you see and hear publicly represents five to 10% of everything that's really going down
behind the scenes. I wish I could be like completely forthright, but everyone would
hate me if I did that. And I would have no connections anymore. There's a lot happening
behind the scenes. And one thing that I've, I've mentioned before, contrary to the public statements
made by Kerr, made by Draymond, Kerr and Draymond are not close friends. Like when Draymond,
Draymond Green's career is over with the Golden State Warriors, him and Kerr are not hanging out.
They're not buddies to begin with. There is a profound mutual respect between the two,
given everything they've, they've gone through, the wars they've experienced together in,
in being key members of a dynasty, but they've had a lot of conflicts as well.
Draymond Green has behind the scenes, pointed the finger at Steve Kerr on more than one occasion
when it comes to any instance of malaise with the Golden State Warriors.
But this was the first time I've ever heard him publicly blast Steve Kerr's decisions like this.
Oh, and Eshaan, yeah, great call. Eshaan is, is writing the chat anytime for a podcast link. Yeah.
If you want to come on the show tonight, you can. I'm going to put the link in the chat right now.
There you go. And real quick before I play the second soundbite from Draymond,
I just want to rehash, revisit the three games so far the Team USA has played.
We are going to go live again tomorrow at approximately 2 p.m. Pacific time,
following the USA Brazil quarterfinals game. We're going to see, for you Warriors fans out there,
Guy Santos in action for Brazil. Team USA should crush that team though. I mean,
they should not be close, but nonetheless, we're going to go live after that.
But the Team USA played three games in group play, won all three. They beat Serbia 110-84.
That was the game that Jason Tandem got DNP. Tyrese Halliburton also got DNP that game.
Then Team USA beat South Sudan 103-86. Joel Embiid was DNP'd in that game. Jason Tandem
turned around and started, and Steve Kerr got a lot of flack for that, and rightfully so.
Tyrese Halliburton got seven minutes and change in that affair. And then most recently, Team USA on
Saturday played Puerto Rico and beat them 104-83. And the one DNP in that game was Drew Holiday,
who reportedly had some ankle issues. I don't doubt he could have played, but it made Steve
Kerr's life easier in terms of minute distribution. And Tyrese Halliburton, who's routinely getting
the least amount of minutes in the Olympics so far, got 10 minutes and change in that one. 10
minutes 28 seconds to be more specific. And Draymond talked about the rotations. He went
much deeper. Maybe this second soundbite's even better than the first. So this was Draymond
talking about the fact that Team USA has these different lineups every game, has different
starters. There's no consistency. So let's hear from Draymond in this second clip, where he
dives even further into this rhetoric. I love this. Draymond Green, there's very little filters
censoring what's coming out of his mouth. And if you love him, that's, I'm guessing,
one of the reasons. And here's Dray, expanding on his criticism, talking in detail about
the rotations and the lack of consistency and how it just makes no damn sense.
Combat the mistake that Jason Tatum was out with. Oh, now this guy isn't playing. Now that
guy isn't. Like, what are we doing? And so I actually totally disagree with that. I think
we know if, like, if Joel's going to be out of the lineup, then Joel's out of the lineup.
But then you start the next thing. Like, what are we really doing? I don't get it. Like,
it's one of those things to me that feels like, man, we got to keep everybody happy. And in turn,
everybody ends up unhappy. That's what it feels like to me. Just lock the lineups in.
The whole switching this guy out, now this guy ain't going to play this game. And that guy,
like, what are we doing? So I totally disagree with that. And as I said, just from the outside
looking in, it just comes off as like, we made a mistake as a coaching staff, as opposed to just
the mistake that we made. This is what it is and moving on. You're now combating with, all right,
now this guy ain't playing. JT goes from out of the starting line, out of the rotation at all,
zero minutes to the star lineup. That don't make him feel good. Because then it's like,
oh, this is the story. Now I'm all of a sudden in the star lineup. I'm Jason Tatum.
It's almost like, oh, I'm giving you this so you don't feel bad. Like, that don't make him feel
good. It actually, I'm sure it probably made him feel worse about it. Like, oh, now I'm starting.
And so I just disagree with what's going on with the lineup stuff. Like, get the lineups,
lock the lineups in, lock the rotations in. We know who's starting, we know who's going,
and go with it. But somebody else in the lineup today, Newt Gottemoeller, again,
we're good enough to get away with it because we're just more superior than everyone else.
Team USA basketball, best in the world, bar none, no question. So we get away with it.
But just because we get away with it, don't make it right.
And I think it's wrong. I totally disagree with it, but we 3-0. But guess what? If our
rotations were locked in, you know what our record would be? 3-0. Because we're just better.
And as I said, so if I'm coming into game one, the two players that naturally aren't playing,
D. White and Tyrese Halliburton. It's no knock to either one of those guys,
but just look at everything else in front of you. Then, as you go through the tournament,
if you're like, ah, I think we specifically need to get Derek White in for X. Like,
we need to get him into the rotation because he provides X, then you do that. But to start?
Yeah, and again, it just made no sense. These lineups are insane, and if you've been watching
the Warriors as closely as I have, and I'm guessing if you're watching the show, a lot of
you are or do, you get it. I mean, this happens routinely in terms of the minute distribution.
There was Corey Joseph minutes last year. The two-way players who shall be unnamed two years
ago. That's just the tip of the iceberg. It's madness. Ishaan is in the green room. Now he's
on the show. Ishaan, how are you doing, brother? Good to see you. I'm good, how are you? Can you
hear me? Yeah, I can hear you loud and clear. You look good. You sound good. Good to see you,
too. What's on your mind, brother? Not much. I just came onto YouTube. I just had some dinner.
I saw you go, that's crazy. You never go live at this time of the year. Not normally, no,
but I was just in the mood. And plus, again, I randomly came across these soundbites.
Just to let the audience know, Ishaan, I don't know if you saw all those clips as one soundbite
on his show. It was like 20 minutes of that. I just cut out maybe like a third of all the
comments, just because he keeps repeating the same thing over and over again. What were your
thoughts on that, man? What did you think when you heard Draymond calling out Curze Rotations?
I came into the show like 10 minutes later, so I didn't hear the whole thing, but I got the
gist of it, and I think it is well-deserved. But you can't really say too much because you're
winning by a lot, but if you dive deep into it, then yeah, Jason Tatum should be playing.
Like you said for the first time, this is the first time Draymond's
publicly criticized Steve Kerr. If Draymond's saying it's wrong, then I would have to guess
it's wrong. I mean, Draymond knows his ---- about basketball. Mind my language.
Absolutely. I don't care. You're absolutely right, dude. His basketball IQ is exemplary,
man. It's second to none. I think there's a good reason why people are looking forward to
because he's got that Charles Barkley in him where he lacks the filter, but he's got the
credibility. He's going to piss some people off in terms of players once he starts getting into
broadcasting. Comments like these, right? I mean, there's no way in my mind I can see Steve Kerr
hearing this or hearing about this and thinking to himself, no big deal. It's going to bug him.
He's not going to say anything publicly. He will not address this, but dude, he's a human being.
You can't hear comments like those from someone who is in your inner circle,
and he's saying it publicly, calling you out for your rotations. I don't know, man.
Yeah. Anything else that comes to mind?
When I watched the Olympics, just me seeing Derek White getting minutes, it's kind of like
the Corey Joseph getting minutes again. I don't know if those two players don't compare,
but Derek White is a great player. I thought Jason Tatum was the worst player in the finals
when I was watching it. I thought it was Jerem Brown, Derek White. He could either say Derek
White or Drew Holliday, and then it was Tatum. I thought he was the worst player there, but Tatum,
yeah, I did. Why do you say that? Because statistically, I think he was the leading
scorer. I'm going to look up his stats. He put up some numbers. Why did you think Tatum had a bad
NBA finals? I think part of that is because the Mavs were just locking in on stopping him,
even though he did put up numbers. It's just that the other guys, I felt like they did more. They
had more impact to the game because the Mavs' game plan was to stop Tatum as much as possible.
Me personally, I'm a Mavs fan. I know I'm from the Bay, but I am a Mavs fan.
The way I started watching basketball was because of Derek. I don't know how to explain it.
It makes sense. By the way, real fast, Jason Tatum in the NBA finals this year, his first title,
did not get a finals MVP. Jalen Brown did, but he averaged 22.2 points per game,
led the Celtics. He averaged seven rebounds per game, led the Celtics. He averaged 7.2 assists
per game. He led the team in all three of those categories.
I'm not judging. I'm not saying that to argue with you, but I just wanted to
let you and everyone else know, despite what the eye test might have shown you,
statistically, he was delivering. I want to reword that. The other role players were
contributing tremendously to win the ring, including Jalen Brown. Every time I saw Derek
White's three, it was going in. Andrew Harding with his tenacious defense.
They're all good. They're all good. The Celtics are stacked, dude. They have four players who
should be Olympians, right? I mean, they got three on the team, but Jalen Brown is just as worthy,
I think. Do you think Jalen Brown should have made it over Tyrese Halliburton?
I think he should have made it over Derek White. Because Tyrese was already on the team,
and in hindsight, yeah. Jalen Brown deserves it over Tyrese Halliburton, but at the time,
like a month ago, when they were figuring all this out, I was a little surprised to see Derek
White listed over Jalen Brown. I think Jalen Brown had every right to be upset when he brought
up the whole Nike thing as a reason for that, and then he had Grant Hill coming back, making
conspiracy jokes. Something's fishy there, man. I think Jalen Brown did get screwed. It's unfortunate.
I thought he did get screwed. I don't know if it's politics or whatever, but did you hear that
PG was supposed to be on the team, and they talked to him at the start of the season last season,
and then they were talking about it and everything, and then they all of a sudden
decided that he wasn't going to play. I don't know if it was for fit, but I would have rather
had PG over Derek White as well. Yeah, the PG thing is interesting too. Jalen Brunson is another
snub, but whatever, man. We can talk about snubs all day. Let's shift gears here. Sean,
while you're on with me, I'd love to get your insights and have someone to bounce off of
regarding this news, and we'll wrap up the show on this topic. Lowry Markkinen, who has been the
name mentioned for the last month and a half, two months, Warriors fans have been hoping for some
news, myself included, regarding a potential trade. The clock is here. I believe tomorrow
is when Lowry is going to be eligible for that contract extension, and then there's this caveat,
which is if the Utah Jazz, and more specifically, if Lowry Markkinen,
pushes off signing the extension by 24 hours, meaning if he tells the Utah Jazz,
if Lowry Markkinen tells the Utah Jazz, let's wait 24 hours to put pen to paper,
because of the six-month rule, and Sean, I'm going to hide you. I'll bring you back in a second.
Because of the six-month rule, and one of the CBA rules is that when a free agent signs a new
contract, and that applies to contract extensions as well, they can't be traded for six months. The
reason for that is it protects players from signing free agent deals and then just getting
shipped right away. It protects the players from getting used by teams. When a player signs a
contract extension, D'Angelo Russell was an example of this back when the Warriors traded
Kevin Durant for him, you have to wait six months from the time of the signing before you can move
and that same six-month rule applies to Lowry Markkinen. Now, if Lowry Markkinen waits until
August 7th to sign the extension, meaning even though he can sign it tomorrow, we're recording
this Monday night, August 5th, so if you're listening to this on Tuesday, August 6th,
by now, maybe Lowry Markkinen has signed the extension, but if he decides to put it off
24 hours approximately and signs the extension on August 7th, he cannot be traded for the entire
year. A lot of people have been talking about, well, maybe Lowry will sign the extension
and then six months from now, the Utah Jazz will trade him to the Warriors or someone else when
they're a little more desperate or the market maybe settles down a little more,
but Lowry Markkinen, if he really does want to stay in Utah, all he has to do is put off
signing that extension by approximately 24 hours and then when the six months is up,
it's going to come after the trade deadline, so even though the six months will have passed,
so will have the trade deadline itself and Lowry Markkinen will not be able to be traded
until next off-season and if that happens, then the Jazz are stuck with him for the whole year
and if the Warriors really want him, they can't sign him until next off-season, which means that
would be a year of Stephen Curry's career, Ashauna brought you back, where you're not getting him
help and from my perspective, the whole reason why I feel urgency and I don't like the idea of
waiting until January, February to make a move is that's another six months of getting Stephen
Curry no help, that's another six months of just sitting back going, well maybe the team we have
now is good enough, even though I'm telling you with the utmost certainty, this team ain't it,
you've got too many guards, you don't have enough size and so Lowry Markkinen will not be available
for the whole season, if he waits until August 7th to sign that extension, which is kind of crazy,
Ashauna got you back, I hope you're with me right now, what are your thoughts on that man,
do you care, I mean I just don't want to wait until February to make a move man,
to me Stephen Curry needs help now, in almost every season and I should go do the research on
this, but I feel like in every season where the Warriors won a title, they had strong starts to
the year and you're risking the beginning of the season, you're risking putting yourself in a hole
that you might have to climb out of, I don't like it man, I'm a probabilities guy, to me every
decision you make in life and especially when it comes to sports should be based on probabilities
and what decision represents the highest probability of success, standing pat waiting
until February for the trade deadline, that ain't it, your thoughts Ashauna, will I have you,
so if he doesn't sign tomorrow, then he can still be traded or, yeah, well yeah,
if he, he can be traded now, but if, but he could also be traded, if no, here's the thing,
if he signs the extension tomorrow, okay, as mentality in the chat writes here, the trade
deadline is February 6th, 2025, okay, so if Lowry Markkinen signs the extension tomorrow,
the Utah Jazz can still negotiate a trade form, so another team can get him on February 6th,
so if it's after that, then you can't be traded for a year, exactly, if they wait,
so and part, and so there is some thinking that maybe Lowry Markkinen, again, who knows what,
what's really going on, man, there's so many reports, I know Mark Stein has been publishing
a bunch of stuff recently, Jake Fisher of Yahoo's been publishing a lot of stuff recently on this,
I don't know if Lowry Markkinen really wants to stay in Utah, but if he does, that's his play,
all he has to do is just wait until August 7th, and at a bare minimum, he stays in Utah for at
least another full season, if you're Utah, if you're Danny Ainge, and your goal is Cooper Flag,
if your goal is stockpiling picks, and rebuilding, and putting yourself in the best position for
Cooper Flag, this is not the way to do it, having Lowry Markkinen on your roster for the whole year
only makes you better, and I don't see how that helps you achieve your ultimate objective, which
is to get Cooper Flag and get a stockpile of picks, what do you think, Ashad, what are your
thoughts on all this? Yeah, I mean, going on our side of the Warriors, it's horrible, because to
me, it's feeling like that Markkinen is either gonna stay, or he's gonna wait, because honestly,
if it was gonna happen, it would have happened by now, is what I'm feeling,
and again, like you said, if we get this roster that we have currently, it's not it, I don't
even think we're a playoff team if we have this current roster. Agreed. The only way out of it,
Ashad, I don't know if you agree with me or not, the only way, from what I see, that the Warriors
can still have a successful year, is if Kaminga and Pajemski take huge leaps, right, and Trace
Jackson-Davis takes a leap, I mean, Moses Moody, who would have to actually play to take a leap,
and you know, he never gets consistent minutes, and there's like nine other guys on the roster
with almost the exact same skill set as Moody, I don't know how he's gonna play this year if they
keep him, so to me, that's the only chance they have, is Kaminga and Pajemski have to take huge
leaps, and if they don't, it doesn't mean that they're gonna suck, I mean, but I don't see how
the Warriors are even a playing team, I'm totally with you, I don't think this season's a wash,
man, and they're gonna be too good to get, you know, decent odds for Cooper Flagg, it would just
be a wasted season, dude, and I hope that doesn't happen, man, I really don't. You're saying they're
too good to get a pick or a lottery, but knock on wood, you know, Steph could go down and the
whole season is in shambles, and then, yeah, and then, what do you call it, I honestly feel like
I believe in Kaminga and Moody if he plays more than I do in pods, because, just because he's
coming off of his rookie season, he's played pretty good for the most part, he's shot the
three greats at the end of the season, and, you know, there is such thing as a sophomore slump,
so I'd be curious on how to see that, but I believe in Moody and Kaminga more, but again,
how far will that really get you if you, I would have to guess if they magically turn things around
and start averaging 20 points per game, Kaminga, and then Moody like 15, then probably a first
round exit or something, I don't know, first or second round exit. I'm not feeling good about this
team if they don't do anything and they roll with this, I don't even know how they add Quinton Post,
like, I mean, they literally cannot add him to the roster right now, because they don't have
enough cap space, it's wild. Any final thoughts, Eshaan, I'm going to wrap up the show right now,
anything else that's on your mind that you want to share with the audience? Yeah, this feels
like a scary time to be a Warriors fan, I'm not going to lie, because literally, the rest of
Steph Curry's career relies on Laurie marketing and what he's going to do, pretty much. If not,
I feel like Curry's window is closed if they don't get marketing, or another superstar.
Yeah. That is my opinion. Stephen Curry has no help right now. He has no help right now. That's
part I don't get with this roster, man. Who's his number two, man? Who's the number two scorer
right now? It might be Kaminga, it might be Podjemski, it also might not. And again, why are
you taking these risks going into a season? Why are you comfortable with these uncertainties? I
don't get it. I really don't get it. Eshaan, come back on the show, man. I always love your
contributions. Anything you want to promote before you go? Yeah, I was just going to say that,
you know, if they continue with this roster, then it just would lead me to believe that this,
that contract that Steph Curry has, he's just going to play it out, and then he's done.
Because you can't roll it with this squad and expect to win anything unless he goes somewhere
else. So, you know, it could be a good indication, if this is the roster they have, then,
you know, expect some decline for the Warriors. And, yeah. I mean, again,
the Warriors have an owner who wants to win. Joe Lakob has a ton of pride. Now, granted,
so does Jerry Jones. And to me, that's the worst-case scenario. You have an owner like that,
where he wants to win, but he meddles, he's got an ego, and, you know, but I have hope for Joe,
man. Again, anytime you hear me compliment Joe Lakob, just remember to take it in with context
and understand that I'm saying this based on relativity, meaning compare Joe Lakob to other
owners. If you're comparing Joe Lakob to just other humans in general, yeah, he has a lot of
flaws, man. And I understand everyone's gripes about him, but compared to other owners, he's
fantastic, man. Like, he actually is willing to spend, he wants to win. At a bare minimum,
we at least, when I say we, I mean like anyone who's a fan of the Warriors, at least we have
an owner who wants to win and is willing to make it happen, right? Yeah, I got one more thing.
You know, everyone says that Mike Dunleavy is really good at drafting players and he hasn't
done much in free agency or anything like that. Do you think that's kind of like done on purpose
because he's setting up the Warriors for a rebuild and he knows that the window is not that open
for them to really win much? Do you think that could be a possibility, that he's just putting
all his eggs in one basket in the picks, even though they don't have much higher picks right
now? I don't know what to think about Mike Dunleavy Jr. What I know about him is he's behind
the scenes, he has a reputation. And again, I've only interacted with him I think once,
so I'm basing almost all this from other people's interactions and people I know. But my understanding
is he's the kind of guy who thinks he's the smartest guy in the room, like he's got some
arrogance to him, maybe cockiness, I don't know what the right adverb is for that, or adjective,
but the point is, he's got a bit of an attitude, he has nailed the draft, but the lack of
personality concerns me because he seems like an introverted dude. The only reason why I bring that
up is because part of being a GM is communicating with other GMs, with other front offices, right?
It's developing relationships. That was one of Bob Meyer's biggest strengths. He was a relationship
guy. So if he's calling you and he's saying, hey man, let's make a deal, it's a lot harder to say
no to Bob Meyers than it is to someone like Mike Dunleavy Jr., who maybe is not very personable,
who maybe is a bit obtuse, who maybe thinks he's smarter than you, and so the attitude's coming
with it. So when a guy like that's calling you, right, and he's going, hey man, I want to make
a trade with you, maybe there's more hesitation there. Maybe the person on the other side of the
phone doesn't feel that same obligation to actually proceed with that deal, right? That's
where the personality thing comes into play here. Sorry to answer your question as long with it as
I did, but my point is, I think it's still too early to judge him, but with that said, I'm all
about results, man. And in year one of Mike Dunleavy Jr., the team won 46 games and they
missed the playoffs. And even if they are a better team in year two, the rest of the NBA is also
better. Steph and Dre are another year older, and they're a team with nine, possibly ten guards,
you know? Like, I don't know how the hell this is going to work out. I don't get this roster
right now. So it's still a wait and see, I think is my super long answer. I don't think this roster
is better than last season's, just because you have the idea of clay and all that spacing,
and you don't really have that as much. And honestly, what I've seen so far from the GM,
I think that it feels like he's resetting for a rebuild rather than trying to win now.
Which wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. This is a hard roster to deal with,
right? Because on one hand, you got Steph, you got Dre, and you have to at least try to win now,
right? But you look at the way this Warriors dynasty formed in the first place, and it was
organic. It was almost entirely through the draft, and then complementing these drafted
players with solid free agents. So I get the approach that he has, right? I get the mentality,
but you also have to do something to help Steph. You can't just let him out there with no help,
man. That part of it, you know, it sucks. It sucks. Did you see the report that if they can't
market him, they're going to switch their focus on Valanchunas?
Oh, yeah. I don't know, man. I mean, first of all, Valanchunas would not be available until
January, I believe, because of the six-month rule, right? So even if they shift gears to
Valanchunas, I mean, that's not a realistic trade target until early next year, late this year.
You know, I've read that, but we see reports all the time, and that could be one of those things
where next week he's, I've heard the Lakers are interested in him. Valanchunas, he's not going to
make a difference for the Warriors, dude. He would be a big body. He would help, but you're not going
to suddenly be like a championship contender with Valanchunas, right? You need an impact player,
whoever this guy is. You need someone who can give you easy buckets, who, if they can't stretch the
floor, they better be a damn good defender and a damn good scorer on the interior. Jonas Valanchunas,
if I pronounced his first name right, I mean, he's just kind of like a big dude. He's an enforcer.
He's a, I don't know. What do you think about him, man? I mean, he's solid, but he's a great guy.
He's not going to really, he's not going to win you ballgames, but like, yeah, but like, he's not
going to win you a championship, but like as a, as a player, he's really good. I wanted to ask if,
if this is the current roster that the Warriors are going to have, would you have rather have
Klay back then? No, it was time to move on, dude. It was time to move on. Yeah, I think. Would you,
would you like, like you miss Klay? I mean, Klay's on my team now, so I don't, I didn't
really like that, to be honest, because Kyrie and Klay are getting older. I don't know how
the Mavericks are going to compete like that again. Well, if, yeah, I'll say this,
Sean, and then I'll let you go if you don't mind. If history repeats itself,
I feel like you're in a good boat, dude. You got one of the best players in the game, in Luka,
right? Klay, Klay is that Ray Allen, man. Like, he is going to, and with, with so much less pressure
on him, he could thrive, dude. I mean, I don't think it's bad for Mavericks. I don't know if
but it's not a bad pickup, dude. You know, and, and best case scenario, Luka has his Ray Allen,
and he has the guy that's going to save the day if he needs someone to hit a three, you know,
down with, with seconds remaining. We'll see. Yeah, it's just to me that, like, Luka, I don't
know if you, like, knew, but Luka was literally playing crap the whole playoffs. You know,
every Mavs fan, like, I dove deep into it. Every Mavs fan was, like, you know, really upset how
hurt he was, and he wasn't performing that well in the first round against the Clippers, but then
he started turning it up a little bit. And now, I mean, I don't know, I don't know how to explain
it. Like, Kyrie's getting older, Klay's getting older. If, if Luka gets injured, this team isn't
doing anything, and it's basically worth it. Yeah, you say that about a lot of teams, but I
heard you say that. Yeah, you can. You're, I'm more optimistic as Sean, and I'll let you go after
this, please, if that's okay. I'm more optimistic about your team than the Warriors right now.
I'll leave it at that, you know. I'm feeling, if you're a Mavericks fan, you should be feeling
way better than a Warriors fan just right now. Like, you guys were just in the finals, you know,
and you just added Klay, and you lost virtually no one, except, I mean, Tim Hardaway Jr., I don't
think that was a big loss for you. So, you're feeling good. Yeah, I'm scared for the Warriors
right now, honestly. And I just, I just wanted to get marketing so I could go to your party,
that's it. We're having a, we are. I even have a location. It's going to be in Novato, California,
where I was born. I have this, there's going to be a party, folks. I will leave it at that,
Eshaan. And believe me, I'm going to announce it. There will be a party. Look, all we need,
Mike J. Nailed it. All we need, when I say we, I mean the Warriors and us fans who like them.
We just need Ty Drone. That's all that's missing. We're set. Eshaan, clearly we're all being
facetious saying that. Eshaan, absolute pleasure. Come back soon, please. Thank you. And congrats
to being a Mavericks fan, because I feel like you have a lot more to look forward to than Warriors
fans right now. I don't doubt that. Thanks, Eshaan. Have a good night, brother. Take care,
good night. You too. And enter the Draymond, great name, saying, what did Dray say? You missed it.
Well, that's the great news about YouTube and podcasts. And you can just hit the rewind button
or go back to the beginning. He said a lot of interesting stuff. And thank you for joining
the program. Here is what's coming up next. I know, Mike J., you da man. I can't thank you enough
for joining the party. Speaking of parties, if by some chance tomorrow, if Lowry Markin is a member
of the Golden State Warriors, there will be a party. There will be a show. There will be a party.
But besides that, approximately 2 p.m. Pacific time tomorrow, USA, Brazil, Gui Santos, who I
love that kid. I think he can actually play. We're going to come to you live with postgame.
Wednesday at 7 p.m. Pacific time, Larry Kruger and I will break down all the post-Lowry
conversations, meaning by Wednesday, we're going to know whether or not Lowry Markin will be a
member of the Warriors. And if not, we're going to explore Plan B's. We're also going to talk
gambling, meaning what can you bet on this upcoming season? Golden Days brought to you by
Thank you, folks. Oh, and real fast, before we go, the chat. Jay Rock saying if the Warriors
get Jonas Valanciunas, he'll help them win 10 more games in the regular season. Yeah, 10. That's a
lot. I mean, just think about that, Jay Rock. 10 wins is a lot. So if that's the impact Valanciunas
is making, hey now. Otherwise, see you tomorrow, 2 p.m. Pacific time, USA, Brazil, postgame.
Wednesday, 7 p.m., Larry Kruger is joining the party. I think Thursday, Casey Sturter and I are
going to make up NBA Coast to Coast. Paulie Mack will join the program Friday. That dude just
always brings great energy. Phenomenal vibes. Just like the audience. Just like you Golden
Dazers. I like that name. I hope it sticks. Until then, see you tomorrow. Love you, Draymond.
Bye-bye.
