Van and RV Trip Across Canada

So one of the amazing things about this RV is that it's not just that sleeping space,
the sleeping space can extend. That's like one extra body's length of space,
so that makes it super comfortable for two people, such as me and Venus.
So this is Venus's vacation, round number two, and since we've done that van life
Banff National Park trip back in January 2022, Venus has been non-stop talking about wanting
to do van life again. In fact, this is the thing that made her hooked on road trips.
So then I started pushing for the idea of going to like maybe Zion National Park in Utah,
maybe we go to Banff National Park in the fall to check out the really cool fall colors,
it'd be really nice. The problem that Venus had with that idea was that we would do that road
trip together to that destination, Venus would fly home and then I would have to drive the car
back alone for who knows how long, and Venus just didn't really feel comfortable with that idea.
And up until maybe a week before Venus's scheduled vacation, Venus found the ultimate
travel hack deal. We can rent this massive RV for only $59 a day, but the catch was that it would
have to be a one-way trip all the way to Halifax. So we thought, you know, it's Canada, we have the
fall colors happening right now, it's going to be absolutely stunning while we do it. And that is how
this journey began. I said okay, let's do it, let's go. We drove from Toronto to Quebec City in over 12
hours, got there at 2am at a truck stop, we slept there overnight, and this is where we begin
today's video. Quebec City all the way to Halifax, part two, let's go.
We came out of this way of the car because our door doesn't...
The door doesn't lock. Is it room tour time? Yes. Okay, let's go.
So welcome to our little RV. And there's so many things that this RV has that our
van didn't. We have a full-size kitchen to our right here with a sink, with running water, and then a propane stove,
and a microwave oven that's actually brand new. And we have some full-size, we have some
storage up here, we have a dining table, and this dining table actually can turn into a bed if you're
And here we have a food sink, shower, and toilet here, which was really nice last night. It has
hot water, really nice shower, and then they also provided us some cleaning supplies. So nice.
Okay, so on top of all that, we also have the cab here. We have a television.
This has a built-in antenna, so you can get an antenna cable, digital cable here. If you have
an Apple TV or whatever, you can use this little tab here. You can plug in an Apple TV here so you
can watch like really good stuff. And they also have built-in Wi-Fi, but you have to get your own
kind of like cell phone sim card for the Wi-Fi here. So you might as well just use your phone.
Now, cab, we have all the general necessities for driving your RV. It's just pretty much like a
Ford pickup truck. It's our main panel here to control the water heater, water pump. We have a
living room, kitchen, vault, and a generator. However, if you use a generator, it uses four
liters per hour in terms of gasoline, so gasoline is expensive. So we try to conserve as much as we
can in the RV. And this is our bedroom. Extends out to a queen-size bed as she says. And you know,
something about having extendable platforms for your RV, something always cool about that. So
out here, we have our propane unit. We have a whole bunch of exterior storage for just baggage
stuff both on both sides of the truck. We have this now still currently extended for whatever
reason. We didn't extend it back in. But this is for, what is it? This is a filling tank for the water,
that is for gasoline, and that's the black water, which is gonna be really gross.
Their job. I don't know. I like winter, I don't like, but having running appliances
definitely does help. And we have a full-size fridge so we can get all the groceries we need
for the next few days and put it in the fridge. And the bed automatically goes together.
Oh ----, that's my iPad. So I know this looks pretty redundant, but I did bring my camping
stove because I wanted to try it out. And this uses propane, which we're using for heating the house.
So I just figured we're gonna have to throw this thing out anyway by the time we get to the airport,
so I might as well burn through this entire cylinder before we start using it.
So you fold this inward once, and then you fold the sides,
like a little pocket, and then you fold that. That's your burrito roll.
Good? Yeah. The only one really bad thing, we can't figure out how to close this door.
And like, it's like the most... The one thing I like about van life more than this is that the door
was like, it was like an actual like door door. This is like some cheap ass stuff.
And I have no idea how to like properly lock this. Okay, let me try. Oh, I got it.
Do you? Are you sure? Well, I know the deadbolt's not going in.
But it's closed. It's closed. It's not gonna open while we're driving.
All right, let's get on. So we want to go see a waterfall? Yeah.
Can we not open the door again? We're gonna have to eventually. All right, ready to go?
So this waterfall that we're going to, it's only five minutes away from here.
Kudri King here. We already know this is gonna be a lot. It's gonna go way beyond $150.
It's a very beautiful park, but it's a one-way street, and it's very narrow,
and this RV is a challenge. Yes. One of the bad sides about the RV, nowhere to park,
but take a look at this waterfall. Oh wow. Quebec City is like actually all surrounded with
waterfalls everywhere, but we actually have very limited time because of the amount of days we have
here. So time to head on moving. Ready to go? Let's go. Let's go. Okay, where to next? Jack
Cotier National Park. All right, let's go to Jack Cotier National Park. We should be able to park
there. And then that's the old bridge. Hey, Venus. Yes? Do you remember how to say I want a coffee
in French? I want a coffee. In French? I want a coffee. Remember we had that, we went to a
Tim Hortons here? Yeah, the ladies didn't understand what I was saying.
S'il vous plaît. S'il vous plaît. Hello? I can't speak English. You can have trial number two,
you can be the same lady. No, no, no, no. Okay, it should be like this woman again. What was it?
She just wants a coffee.
It would be very pretty when it's full fall color, but now all gray.
It doesn't apply here. This is a provincial park.
It's still nice. Like, like the park is still pretty even though there's no leaves. It's just,
you know, if there were leaves, there's just so, there was so much potential. That's what I want
to say. Are you saying we're coming back this year? Yeah, probably. Every little like tree there
could have been a different color if we were here maybe two to three weeks earlier, but we're not.
We're here after all this fall colors are gone, which means everything north of us is probably
going to be gone too, so it is what it is. It's still pretty, still enjoying it. Over there,
it's all evergreen. Is that it? Yeah. Okay, vacation day two. So the last time we were here,
super magical. It was like snowing, it was a blizzard, super beautiful, the trees were covered
in snow. The last time was prettier. I don't know, it was pretty good. This time the road is open.
We can actually go down to the end and see. Yeah, we can. Do you want to go? Do you want to hike up?
But I'm also scared that because we're in the RV, that might be a very terrible idea. We might get
stuck up there. No, no, but I was looking at the trail that we can try to do a short one today.
Now it's 1 30 and now we're gonna do a little hikey hike because it's Venus's vacation. That's what
she wants to do. Hey Venus, I have a question. Is this what you're gonna show all your friends at
work? What you did on your vacation? Yeah. This video? Maybe not. Why? You're supposed to be
helping sharing the content. Don't be shy. Hey Venus, how badly do you want to see a black bear?
I do not want to see at all. Like they're definitely here, you know? They're just like
lurking in the woods. What else? Raccoons probably, yeah? Chipmunks? Yeah, probably. Some type of birds,
not seagulls, but like smaller birds. Moose? Oh, we do not want to meet a moose. A moose is scarier
than a bear. I'm not sure. Oh, so this is how you can tell if there's a moose that went by.
Do you see any? Okay, so moose are bigger than like a Ford 150. They're taller than a Ford 150.
You can crash into a moose and like go 100 miles per hour into a moose. Moose would be completely
fine, but you'll be messed up. Literally just a reminder that we arrived way too late here.
Two weeks, three weeks too late probably. 16 degrees in here.
Oh, that's cute. Have fun. It's nice and quiet. Say again. It would be so pretty if it's orange.
Yeah, winsome, loseome. It's okay. Now you know, book your holiday early October instead of
November. See, they got it. They brought their lunch. We're not very good at this. No, we're not.
I totally forgot. We're supposed to bring lunch. Well, we're back. We made it safely back to the
van. How are you doing? Good. Trying some new yakuki lunch. I'm gonna make a different sauce
for mine, but he's gonna take the all three chili. All three chili spice. I'm gonna put
peanut butter in mine. I want peanut butter in mine too. Try. Oh, that's tasty. Yeah, let's get
some peanut butter in mine. I also have hoisin sauce. You only have one packet. I don't want
hoisin sauce in mine. All right, Jacques Cartier National Park. We are leaving, but it is always
a wonderful time in this park. If you ever have a chance to visit Quebec City, highly recommend
coming to this place because it is beautiful. There's no other person I'd rather be doing this
with you other than you. Yeah. Did that make sense? Are you sure? Yeah, I'm pretty sure.
That's nice. Gas is obviously a very big issue when you like rent an RV, and there's a couple
of ways how you can go around gas, I guess. Like, I was thinking in the back of my head,
if I got a whole bunch of jerry cans and filled them all up with gas from Costco,
I would be saving roughly 30 cents a liter, or I don't know how much that is in gallons, but 30 cents
per whatever, simply because I'd be like getting the gas in a cheaper place than it is out here
in eastern Canada. Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, PEI, it's actually a lot more expensive
than it is in Ontario. So, that's one way how you can save money on gas. So, if you know anything
about racing, if you follow a Dather car for a very long period of time, what you're getting is
a slipstream effect. That big truck in front of us is actually pushing all of the air out of the way,
and as long as I stay close enough to him to get that slipstream effect, I'm actually saving money
on gas. Just kind of wondering if the weight of all the jerry cans is going to... It's not going to
be 30 cents. I think you're going to be saving money still if you have just the extra weight
carrying the gas, and as you continue going forward, that weight obviously goes less and less.
So, overall, it should work out to be you're saving money somewhere. Number two, this guy
right here. I love the Mr. White truck. That's theoretical. I know it works when you're in a car.
I'm not really sure how well it is when I'm in an RV, but theoretically, you're supposed to be able
to save gas if you do that because you don't have to push as hard to go at the same speed as that
truck does. If I can think of any other ideas while I'm doing this, I have a lot of time. I think I have
three hours to think about this while I'm stuck behind this white truck. I'll get back to you guys.
Absolutely nothing. It's not 11 o'clock. New Brunswick! New Brunswick! Yay, we're in New Brunswick now.
Oh my god. Welcome to Gray Rock Casino. The truck stop is actually really cool, but I think we're
going to be covering it tomorrow. So tonight, we're going to hang out here in the truck stop,
and we're cooking some pasta. Yep, yep, yep, low, yep, low. Let it rip. No, I'm wearing a white shirt
underneath. It's going to be stained. Just don't wear it white. I should have brought an apron.
We're making pasta, mushroom, carrot, and pasta with bacon, and we're testing how the
pasta would boil inside this pot that we got. Do you like extra, Mike?
Uh, yeah. All right, bon appetit. We got some lovely mushroom pasta with bacon and
pasta with spaghetti. You're eating pretty good. I'm eating salad. Oh, very good. We got salad over here. Have a bite.
Good? I know I'm pretty extra when I'm at this stuff, but I think eating well when you're traveling
is also very important, right? Yeah. Good job. Thanks for making dinner. No worries. Bon appetit.
You're into F1 too, right?
This is what we do on our spare time. Hey, Venus. Yeah. Good night.
