Hi, my name is Nastya, you are on Easy Russian channel, and we are at the Faculty of Journalism of Moscow State University in the very center of Moscow.
As you can see, everything here is already decorated for the New Year, and my friends and I have been thinking about where and how to celebrate it lately.
And I had an idea to ask the students and faculty staff how they celebrate the New Year,
what are the traditions in their family, and what will they do during the holidays.
The most important thing for the New Year is a Christmas tree.
The Christmas tree should be beautiful, bright, lush.
I don't really like modern, minimalistic Christmas trees.
I like Soviet toys, new toys, different figures, beautiful balls.
In general, there are a lot of traditions, but my favorite is the New Year's hustle and bustle.
When we are all running around, fussing, preparing salads, making the last preparations,
and then, of course, we sit down at the table, eat and watch the President's speech.
Exchange gifts, probably, a dance around the Christmas tree,
Olivier and a firecracker, make a wish, burn a piece of paper, throw it in champagne and drink it.
The main thing is to have time.
Of course, to decorate the Christmas tree, to decorate the Christmas tree with the whole family, preferably.
Probably, a bucket of tangerines, which is on the table from the very first days of December.
Well, probably, the Soviet New Year movies, which also start spinning from the same period.
This is a Christmas tree, first of all, with a star, garlands, toys, Olivier salad, and, of course, Soviet champagne.
I love to go to the movies on the Christmas tree on December 31st.
Every year I watch from the first Christmas trees, I don't know, from the 90s.
We had, and it seems to me that many families have such a tradition of coloring their own Christmas ball.
Well, that is, you buy some plastic or glass and spend the evening to paint it.
Well, in Russia, probably, for the most part, it's a Christmas tree, some activities for the citizens, it's a skating rink, it's some events dedicated to the New Year.
Olivier, of course, and the irony of fate.
Definitely a Christmas tree, toys, and, probably, the most important thing is to wait for the New Year itself, not to fall asleep.
Santa Claus, a snowman, gifts, what else? That's all.
Every year we make a winter cotton candy, it's like a dessert made of cottage cheese and shortcrust pastry.
We make it because we found a recipe in Lapin's book about a rabbit, and there was a rabbit's mother, and Lapin's mother made this cotton candy.
My wife and I decided that this was a great idea, and, in fact, we have been making this cotton candy for a year.
Until 12 o'clock, we must be at home with the whole family, and at 12 o'clock, the whole family must celebrate the New Year, and then everyone disperses.
Everyone is always waiting for midnight to congratulate each other, even if we are in different cities in Russia, we always try to call at the appropriate time.
If it's New Year in Siberia, we set a timer, let's say, with my husband, and call at the specified time so as not to miss the firecrackers and congratulate exactly at that moment.
We have everything quite basic, that is, we do not burn paper with wishes, we do not do any rituals, usually we are just very tired, we sit and eat herring under a fur coat.
My mom really likes to put pre-New Year gifts, you know, Advent calendar is fashionable now, and some pre-New Year gifts,
I like to fill up special socks every day, which are attached somewhere near the fireplace, or they can just be attached to the chair, and some banal chocolate or coloring, something small.
I have such a list, it does not change from year to year, for many years, such a report for the year, favorite book for the year, favorite movie, my main achievement, what I want to carry, what I don't want.
So, before the New Year, I always fill it up, and then at the end of the year I look at what really happened out of the riddle, what did not happen, and so on.
Every New Year we launch a firecracker, that's exactly the firecracker, it should definitely be, even Olivier can not be, but the firecracker is definitely.
Well, we make a wish, but it seems to me that we are not the only ones, it seems to me that half the country makes a wish, writes on notes, throws out or burns, we throw it out the window, we think that we are so connected with the universe.
I got old.
I stopped getting cool gifts, now I get socks, underwear, razors, some such things.
When I was a child, we had a tradition, we went with dad and his friends and children, respectively, to the bathhouse, on the 31st, yes, a little stolen tradition, but it was fun.
Probably, we decorated the Christmas tree when I was little, much earlier, and I took an active part in this, and then when it was removed, too, and now, as if a little, a little moved away from this occupation.
The process of celebration evolved, because at the very beginning, of course, I was a child, I was put to sleep, and I did it with pleasure, because I knew that Santa Claus would bring me gifts.
Let's start with the fact that I have never celebrated the New Year in my family abroad, and in general abroad, probably, I did not celebrate, but I am generally such a big fan of eating, and I am for the fact that the New Year was delicious.
We had a situation, we were abroad somewhere on December 28, and of course we wanted to celebrate the New Year.
I know for sure that in France, gifts are put either in special shoes, that is, they have special shoes, we put gifts under the Christmas tree, and they have some kind of shoes.
So, our Santa Claus is always very fair, kind, and he will always go to meet the hooligans and just tell them how to behave next year. Probably, this kindness is different for us, our holiday, that we always treat each other very kindly.
For me, the New Year is New Year's music and New Year's entourage, so I decorate my apartment with New Year's music.
This is also what women in the family do, that is, it is necessary to have garlands both inside the house and outside, a Christmas tree, different figurines of Santa Claus, deer, in general, the whole New Year's theme is only welcomed.
then for about two weeks I have garlands everywhere, curtains on the windows.
We prefer herring under a fur coat, mimosa.
Of course, Olivier salad. Oddly enough, the tradition of kelk in tomato sauce remained from Soviet times, but, of course, there is no champagne without it.
Well, the most traditional salads are probably Olivier with beef.
Well, Olivier, then herring under a fur coat, baked duck, well, it's a dish, and so tangerines, tartlets with dill.
We also have such a traditional dish, I really don't know how to describe it, these are such envelopes of salads, which are wrapped in a mixture of eggs, mayonnaise and garlic, a pungent thing, but very tasty.
Well, in addition to Olivier, in addition to duck, my mother really loves stuffed with apples, well, I don't really understand, but in general, stuffed duck with apples. It is always there, like Olivier.
It seems to me that in every Olivier, but it's cool, it's cool to allow yourself at least once a year to eat something more, go to a normal restaurant and eat foie gras. This creates a mood for the New Year.
Better than what they give me.
To be honest, there is nothing specific, depending on what a person likes.
I have already bought paintings by numbers, I think, for my friends, again, related to them. Here is one picture of my friend who loves a certain musical performer, I will not tell, suddenly she will see.
I always try to find out very tactically what people need, what they dream about. If I have the opportunity, I realize this dream, if not, I try to give something that will be useful to this person.
Listen, there used to be a lot of variety, for example, there could be a lute for my son, paintings, from somewhere else. In recent years, due to the fact that we live in an era of turbulence, uncertainty and all that, I invented a new principle.
The year was not easy. I wish you patience, strength, everything will be fine.
It is clear that it will not be as we want, but at least let it not be as we do not want.
I would wish love and happiness.
I wish you not to be afraid of anything, I wish you freedom, happiness, joy. I think it is very important for everyone to have a good session.
I wish everyone to have their wishes come true, to always be close to each other. The most important thing is that our political situation calms down and our generation is not so anxious.
The feeling of inner harmony and inspiration for new achievements that will stabilize us all a little and move us forward.
I wish you good health. Health is the most important thing. It is more important than good luck, a well-deserved session. The most important thing is health and, probably, good luck. I wish you all the best.
I wish everything to be better. I would like to have more fun. Although in Moscow everyone has fun anyway.
More wide, big smiles. Do not be as depressed as I am. If you have a mood, keep it. And most importantly, really, that the children are happy, because the adult world is much more difficult, much harder than theirs.
And the most important thing that we could give them is a piece of a happy childhood that they will have in their memory forever.
Well, that's about how we celebrate the New Year in Russia. Do not forget to write in the comments what you like to eat for Christmas, how you pack gifts and what other traditions are in your country.
