Guten Tag, wie geht's? In this lesson we're going to learn how to say what the weather's
like in different parts of the country. Let's first listen to a dialogue that has the key
phrases for this lesson.
Wie ist das Wetter heute?
Im Norden ist es wolkig. Im Westen ist es sonnig.
Wie ist das Wetter morgen?
Im Osten ist es regnerisch. Im Süden schneit es.
Let's first learn how to ask what the weather is like today and tomorrow.
Wie ist das Wetter heute?
Wie ist means how is and das Wetter means the weather. Heute means today, so altogether
wie ist das Wetter heute means what is the weather like today.
Let's take a look at another example question.
Wie ist das Wetter morgen?
Morgen means tomorrow, so this question means what's the weather like tomorrow.
Now let's do a listening repeat practice of these questions.
Wie ist das Wetter heute?
Wie ist das Wetter morgen?
That was great, well done. Now let's learn how to say what the weather is like in different
areas of the country.
Im Norden ist es wolkig.
First we have im Norden and this means in the north and because we put the location
first we have to make sure the verb is the second idea in the sentence. So rather than
es ist we have ist es. And lastly we have wolkig meaning cloudy.
We'll look at the word order in more detail later in this unit.
Let's now take a look at some example sentences which use the phrases that we learned in the
previous two lessons.
Im Westen ist es sonnig.
Im Osten ist es regnerisch.
Im Süden schneit es.
Okay, so let's now do a listening repeat practice of these sentences.
Im Norden ist es wolkig.
Im Westen ist es sonnig.
Im Osten ist es regnerisch.
Im Süden schneit es.
Excellent work, well done. Let's listen to the dialogue again.
Wie ist das Wetter heute?
Im Norden ist es wolkig.
Im Westen ist es sonnig.
Wie ist das Wetter morgen?
Im Osten ist es regnerisch.
Im Süden schneit es.
How would you say the following?
In the north it's stormy.
Im Norden ist es stürmisch.
In the west it's hot.
Im Westen ist es heiß.
In the east it's cold.
Im Osten ist es kalt.
In the south it's hailing.
Im Süden hagelt es.
Excellent job today, well done.
In today's lesson we've put together areas of country and our weather phrases
from the previous two lessons.
We've also seen that we need to keep the verb as the second idea of the sentence
when we first put the location in the sentence.
As always, the following lesson is a speaking drill lesson
and I will soon see you again in the lesson after that. Tschüss!
