Hello, dear friends, and welcome to a new episode of Easy Russian.
And Happy Easter to you!
Yes, yes, you heard right, it's Easter.
I know that for the majority of Europeans Easter has already passed,
but for Orthodox believers it's ahead, this weekend.
This is due to the difference between the Julian and the Gregorian calendars.
In fact, we celebrate the same holiday, but on different dates.
The difference between our two Easters usually ranges from one to two weeks.
The dates vary a bit.
Anyway, let's see what the Moscow passers-by answered to the question of my colleagues
whether you celebrate Easter, what traditions you know, and what's on your Easter table.
By the way, one of the traditions is to say on Easter,
To answer this, you should say,
Do you celebrate Easter?
No.
Have you ever celebrated it?
No.
And your family doesn't celebrate it?
I don't know.
But no Easter traditions?
No.
Do you celebrate Easter?
Yes.
I'm a believer and an Orthodox person.
How do you usually celebrate Easter in your family?
At the cemetery, to relatives.
This is our tradition.
Well, a cake, a cake, eggs.
But here I was struck by prices, that for 1,400 rubles they put this cake,
that it costs so much.
Do you celebrate Easter?
Probably not, not really.
And in your family, maybe as a child, did you celebrate Easter?
Also no.
Who is yours?
We celebrated a little, mentioned it, sometimes we ate Easter cakes and that's it.
I bought it for my mother, since I came to Moscow, I live near the monastery, where Matrona is from Moscow.
I bought it for my mother, I think my mother will be happy there.
Well, we observe some rituals, but we are not really in the church.
Yes, of course, like all Russian people.
And how do you usually celebrate Easter in your family?
Well, my grandmother and grandfather, they go to light Easter cakes and bring them to us,
in general, we don't go there, but we paint the eggs ourselves, light a candle,
congratulate everyone, Christ is risen, well, as usual, in general.
Do you celebrate Easter?
Yes, I do.
And how do your family usually celebrate Easter?
Well, usually we gather as a whole family at the festive table in the morning.
Well, in general, we start eating eggs at night, but usually we all get together for breakfast,
cakes, eggs, we also go to church, but now I am studying in Moscow, so I am far from my family,
so in a student atmosphere we don't celebrate Easter so much, but still I try.
Everyone loves to paint eggs, everyone loves this holiday, because there is a cake on the table,
because something new and interesting appears, like in the New Year, some surprises, some games.
I just arrange it myself for the children, this is, first of all, interesting for the children and, well, for me, of course.
Well, now I'm just saying in a hurry, but Easter is our tradition, it cannot be forgotten.
In general, I have a lot of children, we buy stickers in advance, we make them ourselves,
we paste them there, then we spread them out, and then our holiday begins.
I will go home to Ivanovo Oblast to my mother, to the grave, it is a must.
I always go when Easter.
Well, as usual, like everyone else, probably, cakes, eggs are painted there, we go to church, candles, everything else, we write notes.
Do you celebrate Easter?
No, we don't.
Maybe your family celebrates it?
No, they don't.
Do you celebrate Easter?
Yes, of course, like any Orthodox person.
And how do you usually celebrate Easter?
We set the table, we go to light the eggs, cakes, we don't buy anything, we do everything ourselves.
I have been baking cakes for many years, however, due to work, I have to do it in advance,
since the recipe is so laborious, but in general, it is passed down from generation to generation,
I also cook according to the recipe that my grandmother used to cook.
For me, of course, Easter is, first of all, a big family holiday.
As a child, we constantly went to our grandmothers and grandfathers for Easter.
We gathered at a huge table, it is an unforgettable feeling of home and comfort.
Today, of course, with home feelings, it is a little more difficult for me,
but, fortunately, thanks to our wonderful sponsor, there is another opportunity to create a little comfort for yourself.

Do you celebrate Easter?
Of course.
And how is it customary in your family to celebrate Easter?
Well, I don't know, first people fast,
adhere to certain religious canons,
and, as they say, on Saturday night, on Sunday, we will come to the temple,
there will be a cross procession, and after that there will be a holiday.
And what about Easter food, is there anything else besides eggs and bread?
Well, lard, as they usually eat it,
cakes, in principle, all the food that can be consecrated, it can be taken.
Well, on the table, as usual, cakes, beans, eggs,
we fasted a little there, we adhered to the fast,
so it all turned out to be very unusual, such a festive food.
And what is usually on your table on Easter?
Cakes, cakes, eggs, well, and some dishes, who prefers what.
Oh, the Northerners, in my opinion, have such a poem,
with hyacinths it smelled in the canteen, cakes,
cakes, what is there, and Madeira.
That's how we have it, cakes, eggs, well, something meaty,
since we refuse meat in the fast, we also make cottage cheese Easter ourselves,
well, some kind of salad.
And what is usually on your festive table on Easter?
Everything, anything, well, except for traditional Easter eggs,
I don't know, Easter itself, this is cottage cheese,
And what are the usual Easter traditions?
Well, cakes, eggs, and that the sun was there.
They always explained to me that on this day there should be the sun,
and if there is no sun, then the earth has turned in the wrong direction, that's how it is.
And there were traditions, they remain in your family on Easter.
Oh, paint eggs, bake cakes, congratulate.
Well, we don't go to church, well, it's not that we don't go,
but in fact, we still accept Easter, love it, wait.
Well, all Slavic holidays, I actually pass on all Slavic holidays,
for example, the Blessed Virgin was recently, the Virgin was recently,
then there will be Easter, then there will be the Trinity, and all these children know.
What other traditions do you know?
Probably the fast, which I also do not follow.
Easter traditions that are kind of accepted,
that you need to fast to be purified.
Well, in general, my parents fast,
but I can't say that about myself, unfortunately, because it doesn't always work out.
But now, during the break, I decided to go to this temple.
Maybe you know some other traditions, Easter,
which you yourself do not follow, but just about which you know.
Somewhere they go to the cemetery and cover these graves with some sheets or towels,
and lay out all this, and there are all the treats, and they celebrate there.
At the cemetery, after people come, although it is impossible to collect eggs after that,
there are these sweets, everything is delicious,
but I collect, you know how, two bags like this.
But you will have this report, by the way, it will be the most awesome.
Well, what kind of eggs to steal, to go to church,
I know the traditions, but I don't celebrate.
Well, about fasting, of course, I can't say that we are such strict fasters,
but be sure to sing a prayer before you sit down and go to the evening service.
That is, do not sit down at the table before Easter comes,
but be sure to go to the night service.
That is, of course, the whole Easter week, this whole passion week is not possible to go,
and after Easter we also go to the church,
that is, there is such a tradition that you can call the bells and any church lets you in.
What did you do, if it's not a secret, on Vespers?
Well, on Vespers, we still celebrate at the table with conversations,
first of all, about our culture.
I am a teacher myself, I taught the history of art, for example.
Yes, the whole history of art is associated with Christian motives.
In my family, we compare things, what happened, how it happened,
how our relatives passed it on to us, so we do not forget the traditions.
This is how Moscow passers-by answered the questions about Easter.
And what does Easter mean to you?
How is it customary to celebrate it with you?
