the often rail excursion is a 26 mile
journey on a train through the EU border
from Norway to Sweden sit back and relax
I'll tell you a few things about the
journey and the excursion which may help
you the best user on the left-hand side
as the Train travels out of the station
some windows open so if you're a
photographer you want to be by an
opening window bear in mind
photographers will open the windows but
the coach is heated you won't get cold
summer in this valley a German warship
was sunk we didn't see it but I guess it
was under the wrong turn I want you to
bear in mind one thing and it seems so
ridiculously simple it's hard to want to
tell you but it's a train it has a
schedule it leaves on time whether the
crews coaches are there or not so if
you're on a coach and time is creeping
on you might ask your guide quite nicely
if they wouldn't mind leaving two
coaches completely missed the Train
just to say the coach with a cruised
Doris visits escort on actually got
there on time because we've done it
before you will get to stop at sheduled
stations which sometimes no more than a
hut or a small building and also you'll
stop for passing iron ore trains
hopefully you'll have a great guide who
would tell you stories and also what's
going on along the track it is a very
pretty journey and if you have clear
weather like we were lucky enough to do
we could see everywhere we could see the
skiers that had probably come
cross-country across from one place to
another and all of these little
beautiful ski stops along the way some
of these little villages may have
originally been built for workers who
built the actual railway line but now
used by skiers and holidaymakers who
like to stop in the snow beautiful
buildings classical buildings if the sky
is this clear you've had a great day and
eventually you will end up where we're
going to stop and here we are just about
to take the slope up to the next level
not everybody on the train is with our
crews or will be with your crews here at
the top we've come up from that level
below there you can see here you have
the choice do I look at the scenery and
take pictures or do I go in for a cup of
tea and a cake those who stayed outside
will have had some great views those who
went inside a cup of tea the coach
journey back is three hours long and a
totally different perspective on looking
at the lake and up at the railway line
and luckily we saw a whole herd of
reindeer and our driver was kind enough
to stop so we could get that sort of
photo moment
not that we could shout to him from the
coach do remember if you meet a semi it
is rude to ask him how many reindeer he
has it's a bit like asking how much
money you have in your bank and for
those of you want to know what a soft EU
border looks like and there are loads of
them all over the EU this is the one
between Norway and Sweden this is a soft
border
you basically just drive through it
another wild experience is the speed
with which lorries trucks cars drive on
these snow-covered roads in Britain
would have come to a standstill but
these trucks go zooming past the coaches
the coach journey finishes as we enter
town over the old new bridge which is a
bit strange but it is the new bridge
built in 1964 which actually ended the
life of the ferry and you have great
views of the new suspension bridge but
much later than that it's one and a half
kilometres long and a hundred and
seventy two metres high and as you go
into town
the Wargrave is on your left-hand side
along with the peace chapel and you'll
have the chance of either getting off at
the shuttle bus stop or taking a trip
round town if you're interested in
trains don't forget if you ever stopped
at Hamburg the most incredible
Wonderland is the miniatur wunderland
and it has an incredible coverage of
Norway not only the railways but Norway
itself and it even has a cruise ship in
