Niagara-on-the-lake, Ontario Canada | Walking Tour ! In today's video we slow things down and take a stroll through one the prettiest towns in Canada, just a short drive from Niagara Falls Ontario. With it's historic old world charm, incredible gardens and parks, shopping and dining, and beautiful natural landscapes, this is a must-visit location in Niagara.
Located at the mouth of the Niagara River, where it meets Lake Ontario, lies Niagara
on the lake.
Known for its historical significance, well-preserved 19th century architecture, beautiful turn
of the century hotels and inns, as well as its wineries, gardens, restaurants and attractions,
this charming community has rightfully earned its reputation as one of Canada's prettiest
towns.
Walking around Niagara-on-the-Lake is like taking a journey back in time.
The town's history dates as far back as the 18th century, when it served as the first
capital of Upper Canada.
As a significant military and administrative centre during the War of 1812, Niagara-on-the-Lake
has many stories to tell.
Significant battles between the British and the Americans were fought here.
It was here that Laura Secord made her famous 20-mile walk to warn the British of an impending
attack by the Americans.
And to this day, Niagara-on-the-Lake still feels like a British outpost.
The old world charm, the gardens, the inns, all give this town a distinct character and
provide a sharp contrast to its neighbouring town of Niagara Falls.
Queen Street is the main thoroughfare in town, where you'll find beautiful shops, perfectly
manicured gardens and the World War I memorial built in the 1920s to honour the town residents
who died during battle.
The architectural heritage of this town is endlessly fascinating.
With Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian styles, walking through the streets feels like strolling
through a living museum.
Keep an eye out for the date plaques on many of the buildings.
Named after the first Lieutenant Governor of Upper Canada in 1791, Simcoe Park is a
stunning, meticulously maintained park, full of mature trees and beautiful gardens.
A great spot for a picnic.
Across the street from Simcoe Park is St. Mark's Parish, which was founded in 1792.
If the doors are open, take a peek inside this historic church to see the amazing stained
glass windows and explore the grounds and cemetery, which is the oldest one in Ontario.
It's believed that this land was used as a burial ground by the Indigenous peoples before
settlers arrived.

It's open to the public, so you can pop in for a round of golf, a meal, or a drink.
