Corfu sits at bottom of the Adriatic just off Albania in the Ionian Sea. Ideally placed to go east to Greece and Turkey or North to Croatia and Venice. It is the first of many Greek islands and a gateway to the Greek Island cruises, certainly used by Marella's Discovery 2 ship that sails from there between June and October with its Aegean Shores, Adriatic Explorer, Iconic Islands, Aegean Meze, and its Journey to Jamaica starts here as it repositions for the Caribbean.

welcome to Corfu there are poor ships in
today but it's the home of the Marella
discovery you fly into Corfu and there
you meet your ship your ship and dock
here in the cruise terminal just walk
along by the tree and you'll come to the
old town with the new fortress and the
old fortress Corfu like the rest of
Greece is not expensive and on our
fridge magnet index these are 2 euros
the old town is really charming with his
little winding streets and it was built
by the Venetians 400 years ago Wow they
got bombed yeah this beautiful jewelry
shop in the old town was once Church but
it got bombed I found it
since Firdos church is the most
important Church in Corfu it houses the
remains of the same and is still a site
of pilgrimage

take a trip on this boat only two euros
this is where you find the boat you walk
along the harbour opposite the BP petrol
station and behind the stuff is
restaurants and next to the municipal
Barrie you'll find the calypso style
glass-bottom boat and you get amazing
views of corfu town from here the new
fortress is still a working naval base
and it's used the old town of Corfu is
the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage
monument and is said to be among the
most important fortified city ports in
the Med from this aerial view you can
see how well it protected the harbour
two things that cruisers are very used
to seeing our churches and forts
Corfu has both in fact it has two ports
the new fortress is separated from the
old fortress by the market and we're
going to take a walk through now
the old fortress is this way
the old fortress in Corfu dates back to
the 6th century AD let's take a look
this mid 1800s construction was the
British Army Barret
from the fortress you can see Vito
island and we've got a film on how you
can get there for two euros and have a
great day out when this fortress was
built they use the cannon which is a
very primitive weapon and they fired a
cannonball so they had to be quite close
to their enemy and that's why they built
high up and on the edges of harbors the
old fortress now has a very modern
marina in front of it for all the posh
shots both of these fortresses in Corfu
are enormous the Church of st. George
was converted to a Greek Orthodox Church
when the British withdrew in 1864 beyond
the Asian Art Museum is the Esplanade
it's a perfect spacious area built by
the Venetians ideal for walking drinking
eating there are loads of cafes it both
Saban's dance and I'm now looking for
the lipstick it's a trendy part of town
Celestin is a terrace of arcaded
buildings built by the French
this may well be where your shuttle bus
drops you it's opposite the old fortress
and the old town is over there
you
