We're Xenia and Oleg, two-time U.S. national competitors whose goal is to make Team USA
and represent the U.S. in international competitions.
We'll share with you what we learned along the way, so let's make this journey together.
Today, we're going to be showing you a new skating exercise.
What are we showing them, Xenia?
Today, we will show you how to do Chasse and Dweezle in a Volkswagen.
Alright, let's do it!
In this exercise, the lady has to be able to finish a backward outside Twizzle on one foot.
If you have problems with that Twizzle, check out our video on backward outside Twizzles.
The lady has to check the same shoulder as the skating foot back and press her knee and ankle.
Then, do the Twizzle while checking the shoulder opposite of the skating foot slightly in front.
The fingers of the man's hand on the lady's back should be held close together. Avoid doing the claw.
The lady controls her Twizzle exit by controlling her free foot and checking her hips and shoulders.
The man has to keep a solid waltz hold and keep the arm right over the lady's head when she Twizzles.
Partners need to keep their chest up when skating and waltz.
Avoid leaning forward and creating a pyramid.
As always, keep a strong hold, skate on deep edges, and make deep lobes.
Don't tense up your upper body.
Keep your shoulders down and back and extend your neck, but don't be stiff. Skate through your hips.
Press and bend the knee and ankle of the skating foot before you stroke onto the free foot.
Keep your body weight over your skating foot. This will increase your strength of push.
Turn out your free foot so the toe doesn't point down. Don't toe push.
Work on your basics a lot. Crossovers, edges, and turns are the core of your skating ability.
And finally, don't look down. The ice isn't going anywhere.
