Micah Jr (finishing his 11th grade year) and Collin (finishing his 9th grade year) learn how to punt and then compete in a punting competition. Neither one has ever punted before. They both have kicked (field goals, kickoffs, extra points) but never punted. Micah J was Benjamin Russell High School's kicker this past season (2023) but Collin will take over as kicker in the 2024 season.
So they are learning how to punt at a Kohl's Kicking / Punting Camp. At the end of the camp there is a competition based on distance and hang time. Every camper will compete in it but lets see which brother does the best!

Oh my God!
Holy crap!
Oh my God!
That's good.
Well today the boys are gonna learn how to punt.
Now they've kicked, that's what we did last year.
Michael was the starting kicker for the varsity.
Collin was the backup.
He started for the JV.
And they've had some experience with that, but now last summer was the first time they
officially had lessons to actually try to work on their technique.
Well the camp is back, Cole's kicking camp, and Collin came yesterday.
He worked on his kicking.
I missed it.
I was out of town.
I was actually officiating a wedding, former student back in Sarasota, and I missed the
first day of kicking camp, which was yesterday, so Collin was doing the kicking.
Micah's gonna just do some punting I think this year.
We're gonna see how that goes.
He's never really punted before.
Malcolm was our punter last year.
He's moving on to Auburn, so Micah's gonna try to do some punting.
Maybe, maybe not.
We'll see how it goes today.
And Collin's just gonna get some punting in too, just to kind of see what it's like.
They're getting lessons right now.
They're working on technique, and hopefully at the end of the day, Collin will get a chance
to kick some more.
I think it just depends on the schedule, but I'd like to see him get to kick.
He hasn't kicked since last fall.
He's been doing baseball, but it's that time, man.
Spring football is just around the corner, so we're gonna see how it goes.
And one of the great things about today is we're at Benjamin Russell.
We are at our own home field.
Alright guys, who do you get your money on?
Brother versus brother.
Collin, the freshman, gonna be a sophomore, or Micah J., the junior, gonna be a senior.
Neither one of them ever punted.
Micah's bigger, he's stronger, but maybe Collin's got the better technique.
Put in the comments who do you think's gonna do the best at the beginning of the video,
and then you guys judge at the end.
I have no idea myself.
Let's go watch.
Take a step.
Kick and put.
Hands going.
You're gonna roll off.
You're gonna catch, roll, step.
The morning session's over.
They just kind of went through some drills, just kind of getting the basics.
Broke for lunch.
Now they're coming back, and now they're doing a little more kicking.
Honestly, both of them were struggling, but hey, there's a new technique.
They've never done it before.
They've never punted.
So this is completely new.
I think Micah's a little frustrated.
You know, if he doesn't get something right off the bat, he gets a little frustrated.
But look, we can't expect to be good at something the first time we try it.
So hopefully he'll keep working it a little bit, get a little better.
Same with Collin.
What do you guys think?
Who's doing better?
I don't know.
Hard to tell.
Are y'all trying to put it somewhere or just kick as far as you can?
It's not supposed to be full power, but you're supposed to be kicking it.
Your feet hurting, boy?
Dude, are they?
The band-aids didn't help a crap.
That's on the right angle.
That's the right one.
Dude!
Go forward!
So they just finished practicing kicking it to a corner.
So trying to pin somebody deep, maybe kicking it out of bounds, putting a little different
spin on it, trying to kick it with the toe down.
I think all the guys kind of were struggling with that.
So now they're moving on to maybe a competition that's more, I guess, taking their measurements,
seeing what their hang time is and what their distance is.
I think they get three kicks and taking the best one.
So this will probably be the true test.
Who's the better punter?
Again, this is the first time.
Don't know if they'll ever punt again, but we're out here.
We're trying it.
So combined score based on their hang time, based on their distance.
Let's go see.
Number one.
No way, Paul.
I could go back a million years again.
He was on film.
That was his first try.
Yeah.
First try.
That's going on the, going on the next account.
Cut it!
I actually wouldn't even try it all day.
That was just a...
So what was the best?
46 yards, 3.6 seconds of hang time.
And that was all day long, right?
Yeah.
For sure.
He just smoked that.
Or maybe not the distance, but he smoked the hang time.
Did he tell you your best?
I don't know.
It looks like you're only halfway trying.
Power wise.
Kick that thing, boy!
All right, they're doing a little competition.
They have to get at least 25 yards in the air or they're out of competition.
I think they continue to back up.
So let's see how long they last.
They both passed round one.
On to round two.
They're going to back it up, I guess, five yards.
We'll see.
Round two, they have to go 30 yards and has to have at least three seconds of hang time.
Let's see if they can survive round two.
Oh, just short.
Hang time was good.
He got 3.8, but he was two yards short, so he's like a 28-yard kick.
So he's at the competition.
In fact, some of these guys are still in it.
By the skin of his teeth, he got it.
He's on to the next round.
All right, so here's round three.
35 and 3.5 seconds hang time.
Let's get round three.
These are the guys still left.
Those are the guys that are out.
All right, four guys left.
They got to go 40 yards and four seconds hang time.
Mike is just scraping by each time.
Hadn't been kicking this good all day, but he's coming in clutch now.
Got some strong legs.
Let's see who wins it.
Okay, big ball wins.
Big ball wins.
You have to have the best combination of distance.
Everybody gets two shots.
We're going to go one, two, three, four.
You guys are going to go through and hit one ball, and we're going to reverse it.
Here we go, kid.
Special team, special play, special play.
All right, here we go.
Big ball wins.
No!
It's all good.
Warm up.
The wind, bro.
Don't do it to us.
Okay, Carson.
That ain't bad.
About to run out.
I think the look's all gone.
I would definitely beat Micah.
Big kid, Carson.
For now.
Until I turn into...
Oh!
Oh, man.
That's 84.
Reese is in the lead.
She ain't good, but she ain't bad.
Oh, a tie.
The other one?
Yeah, like for the chart.
I kicked a 46, 4.3.
That'll win it if I can do that again.
That kind of run out sometimes.
It's okay.
I made a tie.
All right, we got a tie.
Honestly, I thought I was going to be, like, 1-0 in the 12th place.
So is it 4th?
Carson, 3rd?
Yeah, I got 3rd.
Nice, Carson.
That ain't bad, but is it good enough?
It's not good enough.
Hey, don't choke.
It's on the line here, big boy.
That's good enough.
Really?
How'd you make me die?
Another tie?
78 to 71.
We're going again.
All right, we're in double overtime.
Ooh, strong.
Oh, he got it.
All right, what's your name?
My name is Reese Beasley.
Reese, where do you play?
I play at Opelika High School.
Opelika, all right.
What year?
Class of 27.
27, awesome, man.
So we'll be playing something this year.
Yeah, awesome.
Good job, man.
Thank you.
