Collin (9th grader and class of 2027) goes and competes in his 1st Kohl's Kicking Showcase. He attended the Summer 2024 Southeastern Showcase just outside of Atlanta. We really didn't know what to expect and just wanted to get a baseline of where Collin is and what some of the best kickers and punters in the nation were like.
It was a great experience and we learned a good bit. Looking forward to doing it again in the future.

yeah welcome to my life Welcome to My

welcome to my life Welcome to My Life
yeah welcome to my life Welcome to My
hey guys welcome to the Vlog well today
it's all about Colin and all about the
kicking we are at a Kohl's showcase camp
in Atlanta or just outside of Atlanta
this is the Southeastern showcase it's
our first one Colin's done a couple of
the Cole's Camp maybe you've seen that
actually we've done one camp and we did
one lesson so this is our third thing to
do with the Kohl's camp we really like
the instruction and the structure of
Kohl's so today it's kind of a showcase
a little bit of a competition he's
really started working with coaches and
trainers like about a year ago so really
still kind of new to the kicking even
though he's been kicking since he was
young but really getting the form and
really kind of taking it seriously so
today is kind of like you know let's
let's go try out a showcase let's see
what it's like you know kind of get a
baseline for where he is you know what
if he does great awesome if he
bombs well you know what it's a learning
lesson right like he'll learn kind of
how these camps go and kind of what to
do and again we're just trying to get
better you know that's the big thing not
competing against anybody really even
though there's a competition really
kicking is really competition against
yourself you know a lot of kicking is
mental you know so it's just kind of
working on the mental game and just
going out and trying to get better you
know learn how to compete learn how to
be a better Kicker thoughts Colin I
don't know I guess we'll see a little
nervous see what happens a little
nervous a little bit a little bit yeah
yeah I think this is like one of the
biggest showcases they do is the
Southeastern one and it rained pretty
much all day yesterday stormed looks
like it's a nice field so hopefully it
drain well and maybe dries out so I
really don't know what the conditions
are like and it's going to be kind of
overcast today which I guess is giving
the sense that it's not going to get hot
but I don't know if it's going to be
windy so we really don't know not the
ideal conditions but it is what it is
we're here we're going to make the most
of it all right let's go cheer khin on
see how he does go get them
bud I need you to roll with me on that
you need to
roll on the right here
good
zero Colin just tried some roll out py
even though we're not even signed up for
Ping but he hopped in and might as well
try it it's pretty hard though wasn't it
yeah I don't know how to hold of course
it's going to be oh well something to
work on maybe something to practice I'm
coach Cole drill work may not seem like
it's that important but that's really
where we make a lot of decisions as
charts tell us one story drill work head
to-head
what does that ball look like we're
grading every ball we're filming some of
it we are writing down notes does this
athlete seem like he's under control or
does he just want to get off stage and
exit left and not come back be petrified
of everybody watching and we're going to
have competition everybody's going to
have a competition that you have a
chance to win for field goals we
transition to punts punts then will work
with the Snappers and then kickoffs five
kickoffs you will average the top two so
there's no warm-ups you have five
kickoffs to hit two up top will be the
field goal field we'll have six Active
goal post six field goals With the Wind
six field goals into the wind different
distances and then we'll have some bonus
kicks will be uh noted by where the
cones are if you use a block we're going
to make the bonus kicks farther it's
going to be harder that offsets the
advantage of using a block versus
kicking off the ground okay you'll have
a score of 15 points those are wide
soccer goals 23 ft 6 in college they're
18 ft 6 in put it down the middle no
problems it just got done with the intro
really cool I mean Jamie Cole the owner
talking about just the history of coals
and just how much how far they've come
and how big of a role they play and
kickers getting to the next level
kickers getting to college kickers going
on to the NFL and of course it's a small
percentage Cole's really has a great
utation so anyways that's kind of neat
you know he encourage the kids go out
there do your best a day if you're young
learn from mistakes it's okay if you
don't do great older ones a little more
pressure on you know as they're trying
to get scholarships but anyways that's
what we're here to do we're here to to
kind of get that Benchmark here to kind
of get that Baseline and just have the
experience and just work on getting
better you know he's still young he's
still got three more years of high
school kicking God willing so we're just
here to learn get better I think he does
his kickoffs first
[Music]
[Applause]
B out
38
41 KH just finished doing the kickoff
and I mean the kid naturally kicks it to
the left I mean he's right footed kicker
and I think most people naturally pull
it they had him literally probably 10
yards from the fence like he was the
furthest he could possibly be to the
edge so he's the closest one to the edge
three of them he kicked over the fence
into the woods I don't know how that
affects his charting the other two look
pretty good they actually went in not
real sure about the distance they may
have been 50 yards I don't know I was
hoping he'd get reduced because he's so
close to the fence I mean those would
have been in bounds in a in a games but
because they're out here I I don't know
if he got penalized for that I don't
know if they counted that obviously
they're not going to be very accurate
figuring out where they landed because
they went over the fence into the wood
so I don't know how that's going to
work it is what it is
[Music]
I can almost feel you walking in the
distance but I know that is my
reality if you are e going around inside
this
all Dimensions all alone now I'll find
you when my

[Music]
dreams looks like here they go from the
35 the 40 and the 45 and they go from
one side and they turn around go from
the other side con start on the 40 made
that missed the 45 and now he's on the
right side about to kick a
45 oh man that was a good kick he just
was just a little short which this is
end of the wind right
here so just a little short good kick
though and that was 45 from the right
hash
this wind is brutal man just short just
again good kick straight on just a wind
pushed a little bit missed it from
40 maybe the next
one missed that one too I don't know if
you can see it's he's kicking straight
into this wind and the wind has not been
too bad right now it's said it's worst
if he' have been kicking 10 minutes
sooner he wouldn't had this strong
win frustrating let's see where he kicks
from
next
good well he missed five of the six they
were all pretty good kicks though I mean
they were straight on just and this win
just really killed him so 35 40 and 45
yards I mean that's end the win that's
it's kind of
tough well let's see how I can do on the
next
ones sweet now we're kicking with the
wind in our back for the long ball and
he just made his first long kick which
was 55 good job
all right so both those 60s were no good
just too short and we've never hit one
of those in practice um honestly 55 is a
it's a PR 55 53 somewhere around there
that's a PR 50 was the best the 60 has a
long way we'll get there we'll get there
all right so he's about to move back up
to another 55 and then he'll hit 53s
maybe and then a
48 2 48 I think somewh around
there pretty straight kick good kick
just a little short from
53 like you had the distance just pulled
that one a little bit
well little tough went on the other and
it hadn't even been blowing that hard
until you went over there and then it
started blowing pretty strong did they
give you a score no it was just like how
many you may out of you get you kick 12
May too yeah kicks look good though they
were just a little short and that wind
was killer dude I didn't get to warm up
really my like my kicks on the longer
side they were a lot better because I
had like like the other six that did my
other side with the wind it's like a w
my basement I was hoping they would let
you kick a few like legit fi goals but
that's the what it is for everybody yeah
they were bigger hits all right well
let's go grab lunch and come back and I
guess it's drill work and competition or
something like that
[Music]
we're back from lunch and it warmed up a
little bit the punters are now doing a
long ball competition so this is kind of
the finals they've been kicking for a
while now so these are the finalists
let's go see some of these big
bombs
44
42
71 okay okay
not
74
[Applause]
77 I can almost feel you w w walking in
that distance but I know that is my
reality
you just did a little drill work kind of
an evaluation just kicking and let the
coaches kind of evaluate a little bit so
now they're about to do a kicking
competition only get one shot got to
make the 46 build
Advance well didn't get a clean hit on
it missed it a little short so all those
that missed they're out here's the other
group that's still going they're back up
to
51 51 knocked out everyone but maybe two
I think two are left out of our group
couple other groups going four guys
maybe made it from 56 so they're about
to do a finalist competition here to see
who can win it
all two guys made it from that far
distance I'm not sure how far far they
are I'm back here behind the goal
post he is the
[Music]
[Applause]
winner showcase wrapped up we are on the
road heading back and time to debrief a
little bit we really hadn't got a chance
to talk we just kind of small chat but I
was saving it for the Vlog cuz I wanted
to get his
reaction so this was obviously our very
first Cole's showcase first Showcase in
general challenges to sophomore class of
2027 currently not sophomore yet well
will be a sophomore yeah technically
still freshman we haven't finished the
school year just yet so what was your
thoughts Colin I didn't do that
great but it's not where you start it's
where you finish Jamie Cole the the
owner of the camp he was saying that the
beginning of Camp he's like you know
what it's not where you start it's where
you finish there's a lot of great
success stories of guys even kicking
that are successful in the NFL that were
wons they didn't get recruited out of
out of high school so it's it's really a
journey you know if you really want to
pursue it again we got several more
years and we thought you know what if
this was a unsuccessful in the in the
sense that we didn't do as good as we
wanted to it's still a great learning
experience you know you get to see what
the Showcase is like how the competition
goes you get to see a bunch of great
phenomenal kickers like some of the best
in the country I'm sure were there kids
from all over and get to compete against
them kind kind of see where you are and
what are some things to improve on so
yeah we miss some kicks they look good
as far as accuracy just a little short
in the wind and then turned around and
kicking with the wind at her back those
were like a lot farther since I had a te
I had to kick from 60 yeah so that was
kind of interesting there was a lot of
kids that weren't using tees but we
didn't realize they were kind of
punishing you so to speak if you had a
te push you back another five yard y
three yards cuz they said that kind of
balances out but we've never heard that
I mean we're kind of new to kicking so
good to know I don't know if we need to
start practicing with it without a te
but I mean you're allowed to use te's in
high school but obviously in college you
don't use te's at some point I guess you
start weaning off the team so what about
kickoff during my evaluation part I was
on the way in of course and I normally
pull it a little bit on kickoff and I
end up pulling three of them over the
side fence so know would have been
inbounds in a game so Wednesday then
we'll kind of know more about the
valuations what were they saying during
skill work anything like when you're
kicking field goals it was supposed to
be like a little bit of coaching period
but yeah I didn't notice some coaches
were actually giv advice but that guy
didn't give you any advice did he no the
kids in my group he was writing stuff
down but he never told them like I heard
one kid after he kicked he was like
right down like needs more leg power or
something he wrote that down but he
never told the kid I do think he was
doing part of the valuation so I think
we'll see that he's going to write some
evaluation it kind of tell you what
maybe what are some strengths or areas
to work on but yeah I guess we're just
kind of waiting to see what the results
look like what's an area that you need
to work on consistency I guess well and
I think that's for everybody honestly
and then there were some kids with
massive legs that could kick the ball a
mile and same thing with punting it I
mean I saw some rockets for punts but
then the very next punt would be a shank
you know like and I was just thinking in
a game like yeah that's awesome if you
boom one 60 70 yards or whatever but the
next one if you shank it out of bounds
that looks pretty bad and so I guess
same thing with field goals I mean if
you can kick a 60 y great but if you're
missing 35 yarders for a game that's
pretty critical so I do think being
consistent is huge obviously with any
kind of kicker so obviously working on
that I think as we get older and bigger
your your leg strength will improve as
well they didn't really talk about any
technique really did
they how do you feel like you fair
against the rest of the competition they
never really split up by gr I don't even
know really but even as the camp as a
whole based off my performance not that
great but but you also know your
potential like you know that wasn't your
best day you had some balls that you
didn't strike well so you know what your
potential is what I was hoping that we'
kind of get a baseline you know where
where do we stand as far as with some of
the best kids in the country what are
areas to work on to get more comfortable
and you know hopefully we'll be back
maybe next year and try it again and
continue to work on some of these areas
and you know we have a season coming up
and see how the season goes do the best
you can what all was Jamie saying at the
very end of Camp punters work on the
roll out kind of the Aussie style the
roll out yeah so he was saying that's
becoming more of a need and so he's
going to start working on punters to be
able to not just punt in the pocket but
also be able to do a roll out and
obviously we didn't go to punt although
you did do a little roll out but that
was that was kind of challenging wasn't
it I didn't even know how to hold it on
a roll out but
yeah something to work on we maybe
practice that a little bit overall I
mean I think it was a good camp
Obviously good experience learn from it
build on it get better that's all you
really can do so any of you young people
out there if you're thinking about going
to Cole's camp or showcase we think it
was valuable looking forward to a
successful year sophomore year kicking
getting to be the starter this year for
the varsity and just hopefully be an
asset to the team appreciate you tuning
in hopefully you learned a little bit
more about Cole's showcase cuz I don't
feel like there's a whole lot out there
on it other than what Cole's puts out
there like little Snippets so hopefully
this Vlog help you understand a little
bit more about the Showcase and on
Colin's journey of trying to get better
as a kicker all right guys we'll catch
you in the next one appreciate
you
