We're back!
Okay guys, hello and welcome to a new podcast episode with Natalia and Tomias.
Today the beginning is a bit different. It doesn't always have to be the same.
We don't want to be boring.
Today we're talking about a very interesting and cool topic.
Housing.
I didn't tell you that before. I wanted to surprise you.
Guys, before we start, please support us with a thumbs up, subscribe to my channel
and write us in the comments what else we should talk about.
We don't have any more topics.
We're so boring.
No, but we need your help.
Please.
And of course I will summarize the whole script of this conversation for you in a free pdf file.
There will also be a word chart, i.e. new vocabulary for you, expressions and an exercise.
So please click on the link below the video and download the free pdf file.
Let's go!
So, we have to be very honest in this episode.
We're not always honest.
We're always honest, but now it's very personal what we're talking about.
Who makes the household?
We both.
But who does it more? What do you think?
I think it's very similar.
The one who has more to do, does less in the household.
And the one who has a little less to do, does more in the household.
Whether it's cooking, cleaning or laundry.
I sort the laundry. You do the dishes.
So I don't do anything wrong.
I recently got a comment here on YouTube.
It was in Ukrainian.
And it was about me having such a terrible life.
Because we share everything 50-50 and that it doesn't work at all.
However, that doesn't apply to us.
The terrible life or the 50-50 sharing?
No, sharing 50-50, yes, but not always.
You can't do that.
And above all, the comment went like this.
Yes, you share the costs 50-50.
But then your husband still wants you to cook and clean.
And prepare everything and take care of the children.
We don't have children.
The hypothetical children.
And above all, this cooking, cleaning, doing laundry.
I thought so, the poor women.
Yes.
That's not the case with us.
I don't have to do the laundry and clean and cook and this and that.
You like to cook too, don't you?
Not like, but I cook.
And it tastes good sometimes.
How was that with you?
Or how is it in Germany?
Is the role distribution very clear?
Obviously this comment was from a Ukrainian woman.
In Ukraine, the role distribution has always been very clear in the past.
Man works, woman at home.
Now it's going a little bit, very, very slowly in the direction of equal rights.
But I think many women still want the man to earn a lot of money.
And the women don't have to work a little or nothing.
How is that or was that in Germany or in your family?
Well, I think it depends on the family.
In Germany, there are families where it is exactly like that.
The man earns the money, the woman takes care of the household.
And that's perfectly fine.
I mean, the comment wasn't necessarily positive.
But honestly, everyone should do it the way they are happy with it.
If one side, whether it's a man or a woman, would like to take care of the household,
prefer to stay at home.
I mean, that's your own job to do all this.
Then it's perfectly fine.
And it doesn't matter in the end whether the woman or the man goes to work and earns the money.
And if that's the way it is with us, then it's okay too.
And of course there are enough families where both work.
Sometimes both have to work, because otherwise you can't afford to live.
Nowadays it's not possible anymore, it's not that easy.
Often it is the case that both have to work.
But that's why it really depends on the family.
How was that in your family?
What were the typical tasks of your father and typical of your mother?
So your father didn't just go to work.
But he also did other tasks in the house than your mother.
Everything that was manual.
Well, you can't say that either.
But my father mowed the lawn, for example.
And you?
Me too.
Did you get paid for it?
Or was that your job as a child?
Maybe I got paid for it sometimes.
I think I got paid for it sometimes, yes.
But not always.
Exactly.
When a lamp broke somewhere, my father actually took care of it.
Such things.
My mother cooked.
My father didn't like to cook.
Tell me the story when your mother was away sometimes.
She is a musician.
Sometimes she traveled with her orchestra.
Orchestra, right?
And when you were alone with your father, what did you eat?
Fish sticks and noodles.
And pizza, right?
Yes, and pizza.
Deep-fried pizza.
Pizza.
And my father too, exactly.
Except that your mother pre-cooked.
Well, but sometimes she was away longer and pre-cooking wasn't enough.
So you can cook more than deep-fried pizza and noodles.
I can confirm that.
Yes.
But that's why.
I think it really depends on the family.
And depending on how you want to divide it.
You like your job too.
And I don't think you would want to give it up.
No.
And also friends of ours.
There are such and such.
When people have children, some women say,
okay, I really want to go back to work.
I want to keep working.
And with the others, the women say,
mostly it's good or bad, the women say,
no, we'll stay at home as long as we can afford it.
But how is it with you guys?
Be sure to write us in the comments.
How do you divide the tasks in the household?
Who does what?
Is that 50-50?
Or do you do more or less as a woman or as a man?
I mean, I usually do the craft stuff at home too.
Yes, indeed.
So everything that has to do with drilling or setting up,
everything is done by Tobias in our apartment.
But you also have ...
A talent for it.
Yes, and you have a lot of experience.
Tobi used to work at Airbus as an aircraft mechanic.
Did I pronounce that correctly?
No.
Tobias used to work at Airbus as an aircraft mechanic.
And that's why it's easy for you.
Yes.
You're just a prodigy.
And what would you say I'm good at?
Putting on the laundry.
Yes, with laundry you're sometimes like,
okay, that's actually white and then you put it in the dark.
Come on, I get white and dark.
Colourful and dark.
I would probably always just throw everything into a washing machine.
It used to work well before you noticed that I did it that way.
No, do you know what the problem was?
At some point Tobias had my ...
Silk dress.
Yes.
My silk dress, completely normal, washed at 40 degrees,
with dark laundry, with jeans and stuff.
And the dress actually survived that.
Yes.
But here on one side, the arm is so tight
that I don't really like wearing it anymore.
Otherwise the dress is quite good, but the arm is a bit twisted.
Yes.
Since then he is not allowed to sort the laundry.
No, I do.
I sort them out.
And then you go over and say, did I do that well?
Yes.
Okay, he sorts them out.
Before that, I check it and then you can put it on.
Yes, exactly.
But also according to the agreement.
Wow.
Okay, which work ...
You pack and cook well.
Oh, thank you.
What is your favourite food of the ones I cook?
Everything is so good.
Everything is really tasty.
Yes, exactly.
No, tiramisu.
What?
It's so random.
No, your lasagna is very tasty.
Thank you.
I know.
Obviously.
I know.
That was the first thing I thought about, but I didn't want to say it.
Wow.
And something else.
I have two dishes that are really tasty and that I don't make that often,
because they take a long time.
But they are very tasty.
Quiche?
Yes.
Well, at least he guessed it right.
At least you said it right.
Quiche and lasagna.
Exactly.
I really like to do these two things.
And I still have a cake that I really like to bake.
In fact, I recently recorded the whole process and posted it as Reels on Instagram.
And this cake is super delicious.
The recipe is from a friend of mine.
I can also link that under this video.
But this is the only cake that is very, very complex, but super delicious.
Yes.
Very massive.
Your own food.
Although I changed the recipe the last time and then it was less massive, right?
Still still.
Yes.
But very tasty.
I have another interesting blog that I would like to talk to you about.
In the household there are a lot of invisible things that you have to do.
And there is also sometimes an argument that is unnecessary in retrospect.
Which tasks in the household do you think are unnecessary, but I want you to do them?
Or do they have to be done?
But I think it's unnecessary because I don't want to do it or I just don't like it.
Both.
Whatever.
If something is unnecessary, I don't do it.
Logical.
Okay.
I think I phrased that too complicated.
I have one thing.
I always want to renew something.
Change.
It has nothing to do with the household.
Okay.
It has nothing to do with the household.
It's the interior design of the apartment.
Yes.
But these are things you have to take care of.
You have to sell old furniture.
You have to choose new furniture and you don't feel like it.
Yes.
And we argue about that sometimes because I would like to change something in our apartment.
If Tobias were to live alone, he would only have a desk and a bed and that's it.
Yes, three chairs, four chairs.
Four chairs.
Yes, in case someone comes by.
In case friends come by.
Yes.
So that's another point for us.
If I want to have something new in the apartment, I have to take care of it.
Or ask me actively if I can help you with that.
Otherwise it won't happen.
But if I order something and it's there and we have to set it up, then ...
I usually set it up.
Yes.
Then you help.
Or rather, you do it.
I would say to the maximum.
I set it up and you help.
I help.
What are the things in the household that you don't like to do?
Cleaning the toilet.
Okay, we were very open in this podcast.
What else do you do that you don't like to do?
Laundry.
Laundry, oh yes.
Putting laundry together and ironing.
That's no fun.
It takes so long.
What don't you like in the apartment?
To be honest ...
Nothing at all.
Yes.
I don't like cleaning.
I wouldn't do the laundry either.
Cooking?
I like cooking the most.
That's something that stresses me the least.
But I also have to say, at home I didn't have to ...
When I was still living with my parents, I didn't have to clean that much and that often.
So it wasn't even the topic.
My mom cleaned and we didn't really learn that, let's put it that way.
And since I've been living with you, that's always been a point and a topic.
And I had to adapt and change so much that it's really neat,
that I don't leave my stuff lying around, that I ...
That you clean.
That I clean properly, yes.
Because I didn't learn all of that as a child.
And you grew up in a super clean household.
And did you have a system where you all cleaned together on the weekend?
Or how was that for you?
Sometimes yes, sometimes no.
Or did your mother always clean?
How did you learn that it has to be so clean and tidy?
Tobias can put the laundry together better than I can.
It always looks so perfect.
My mother showed us how to clean and put the laundry together properly.
And then I learned it and now I can do it.
Okay, so did she do it or did you do it together?
Yes, together.
She used to do it.
I didn't have to do it with three.
And your room, your children's room, was it always so tidy?
I would say my parents would disagree now.
But I would say yes.
So it was at least tidy-ish.
Not always.
And sometimes everything was just lying around.
But often, at some point, I cleaned up the room.
At the request of my parents.
Yes, actually, that was a very big change for me.
When we started living together.
I realized, okay, this man is very neat, very perfectionist.
And you relaxed a bit, I would say.
I'm on your level.
And you're on my level.
A little more to me.
Yes, a little more to you.
Because I would say that our apartment is very clean now.
Yes, okay.
You wouldn't say that.
And everyone always says that.
That's nice, isn't it?
Yes.
To live in an apartment.
Absolutely.
Definitely.
And would you say that we have now built a system,
after so many years, how we clean and how we organize our household?
Also generally go shopping, cook, do laundry, send packages, pick up.
Well, sending and picking up packages is always done by the one who has time.
Shopping is annoying, but it has to be done.
Do you know what's annoying?
Found.
No.
Yes, it annoys me.
It's always so much work.
And then you have to take it away.
It's still ...
Not annoying?
No.
Okay.
But shopping in general is annoying.
And otherwise, we just do it that way.
If it's dirty, we clean it up.
And just clean up.
I think if we would think about it a little bit, we would probably have a system.
Yes, which one?
Sucking, wiping.
The system is, I sort the laundry, you sort it.
One of us turns it on, then we hang it up.
And at some point someone puts it together.
Yes.
And besides, I think we split it up pretty well.
I cook, you do the dishwasher.
Yes, often.
Or you wash up.
So that's what we always have to do.
And the good thing is, we're both in the home office.
We actually always have time.
Or rather, we can always take the time to do things.
Besides, I have to admit that we used to argue a lot in the household.
Or because of the household.
And above all, the topic was always cleaning.
Because we both like it when it's clean.
But we both have a lot to do.
And no desire to clean.
No desire to clean and do the laundry.
That's why we've had a household help for a year or so.
That comes once a week and supports us with cleaning and laundry.
And guys, that was such a game changer.
So we haven't really argued about the household since then.
It's done.
Shopping is also a topic.
You need time.
That's why we sometimes order groceries.
That's delivered.
That's also very practical.
So we try to do everything we can outsource.
Simply to avoid the argument.
To avoid the stress.
To avoid the extra work.
In that time, we usually just work.
And how is it with you?
So feel free to write in the comments whether you do the household yourself.
Whether you also have a household help.
And how it was in your families.
With the parents.
Clear distribution of roles or not.
I think most countries are similar to Germany and Ukraine.
I can't think of any other country where it's fairly distributed.
What is fair?
50-50.
So we both do the household.
We both earn money.
I can't think of a country where it's not often just clearly distributed.
So most countries are similar to Germany and Ukraine, right?
Or maybe even much harder.
Much more extreme.
Exactly.
Okay, guys.
It was a relaxed and very personal episode.
I hope you had fun with us.
Please write us everything in the comments.
