Today things are much more convenient. It gives us more time, but we seem to have less time.' - Beatrice Stroud
Beatrice is 94 years old. She grew up in a very different time, and much has changed since she was a young girl. She has many words of wisdom to share with us.
It's a good old story, near the end of next month, May I'll be 94.
I sometimes think of my working days, how I used to work, and I wonder to myself how
I could have lingered so long.
I used to go up and down hills, carry loads on my back, and you see my fingers in the
cupboard way back there.
My father and mother had animals in the garden, that's all they lived off.
You have a little bit of margarine in a little tin, and a pound of flour or a pound of sugar,
that had to last forever so long.
We didn't see food being wasted those days as we see wasted nowadays.
We were poor and had to work very hard, but people were happier those days than what people
seem to be nowadays.
I don't know why it is, but as for myself, I just take life as it comes, that's the way
I feel about it.
I'm going to make some oat crunchies.
The easiest way to do this would be to use the electric thing, but I'm somehow so used
to doing it this way.
But today things are much more convenient, it helps us, it gives us a bit more time actually,
but the thing is, it gives us a bit more time, but we seem to have less time.
In our days, we didn't get out and about like young people today, so we had to walk everywhere
we went.
I never saw a car, not until, it must have been in my early teens, when I saw the first car.
The old barn door, Daniel stuck it there and now the trees are growing up into it.
So much has changed, exactly.
I've got so much to be thankful for and to be happy about.
I enjoy the sound of the little birds and when I come out in the morning, I look around
and there's little birds sitting around and singing their songs and I think, now how wonderful
to be able to enjoy that.
Even the crickets sometimes, they're all happy, that's how they feel, they're happy.
The frogs, they'll start their song and that sort of thing always amuses me somehow.
It's a lot to keep you alive and happy, I always think.
I think we need to be more thankful and more satisfied with what we have.
It's true.
