Can This Make Me Go Back to iPhone?

I made only two shots that make me want to switch back to the iPhone.
Recently one company that's making lenses for phones reached out to me and said they have an
upcoming lens set for iPhones. And the only thing they included into their email, well actually two
things, two photos. One photo taken with the iPhone portrait mode and another photo taken with
their telephoto 60 millimeter lens. Well after seeing this I was like okay send it my way.
Not because of the dog no, but because I'm a fan of lenses and cameras and cinematic images. Well
without further ado let's see if these lenses are any good. Let's go. The distortion gets really
funny here. Let's see. It looks like a laptop. Big letter S here it's for Steven. I'm shocked you
guys made a whole box for me. I'm just joking it's probably because the brand is called Shiftcam. But
keep in mind guys Shiftcam told me that this is like an influencer box for review. The product
that everybody's going to get once they order it is going to be a little bit different. I'm not sure
what it's going to be like but either way I think the lens is more or less going to be the same
except for I have here like prototypes. Let's open it and it's way too many lenses. Way more than I
expected. It's just a whole lens set here. Okay so what we got here. We have 75 long range macro
lens. We have 60 millimeter telephoto lens. 16 millimeter wide angle lens. 10x traditional macro
lens. 200 degree fisheye lens. And I'm going to be using this whole system with iPhone 14 pro which
I'm going to be borrowing from my wife. Oh feels just perfect. You know I'm a boomer now when it
comes to iPhones. Right now I think that S23 Ultra has superior camera but I think with all these
lenses probably it's going to be worth using iPhone again. But I'm not so sure. Let's test it.
Guys I guess Shiftcam did not give me the case. You just have to carry the box. Yeah I guess
this is gonna be our carrying case for today's video. Let's go outdoors.
You see I have big portable case right here. The installation should be pretty easy I think. It's
just the thread you know you just put it in here like this. A couple of turns. All right and here
is the first problem that I faced. The iPhone automatically switches to the macro mode which
we have to disable like this. And now we have our wide angle lens. Well it looks good I think. Let's
take the first shot. Now we go into the super wide angle lens. And this is the vertical shot.
And also I tried to use this wide angle lens on the X1 camera for videos.
And for standing shots like this it looks decent. However once I'm trying to move and making steps
back and forth. You see right now this is what I just captured with this phone. You see the image
is not as smooth. And that's why I took with me a gimbal. All right guys I'm looking at the footage
right now. And yeah you see and now we're starting the movement. It looks very good. We get a little
bit of parallax action. And you see how heavy the flare is. On this note that was attached in the
box. I read that the flares in the future version will be less prominent I guess. Okay let me know
what you think about this image quality. If you would use it for vlogging like this. And see what
others think down in the comments below. And we are switching to the next lens. I want to capture
some portrait shots. Let's go. All right guys now I have the telephoto lens. This is 60 millimeter.
You can use it on X1 camera. But also you can put it on the X3. And if you do that in that case
this lens actually makes the whole iPhone system work like S23 Ultra with the super telephoto zoom
lens. Let me show you. Okay so you see this is the X3 camera. It looks very nice. Yeah but we can go
even closer than this with digital zoom. And you see I'm very close right now guys. Although I have
to say the shake is very prominent right now. If you film it with X1 camera the image is really good.
There is optical blur. It just looks better. However there is a catch. If you use it on X3 camera.
Well in that case the shake is really prominent. And you're better off using this lens on a tripod.
And some can say well Steven cinematic mode is also available on the phone. Well you see cinematic
mode gives you artificial blur. And this one is optical. This shot is made with this 60 millimeter
lens. And this one is the cinematic mode. You see even though shift cam allows us to use this lens
on the telephoto camera. However on the iPhone in the stock app if I switch to the telephoto mode.
Well I cannot use it because the LiDAR sensor is covered with this lens. Yeah and you need to go to
a third-party app. And only then you can activate like this. You can switch between the lenses. This
is X1 main camera. And this is 3x telephoto lens. And in that case you get extended reach. And it's
really amazing how much further you can get your shot. And I think in that case if you want to get
similar results to the S23 ultra. Then you definitely need a tripod or monopod. So you can
hold your phone still. And you see we can even reach people on the other side of the river. It's
crazy. Just for a quick comparison guys. This is the field of view you get with regular X1 camera.
And then if you install this lens. This is the field of view that you're getting. And then if
you install this telephoto lens on the 3x camera. This is the field of view. All right guys that
was telephoto lens. Now I'm getting hungry. Let's go find something to eat. And also test at the
same time this fisheye lens. Which I think is the best looking lens out the whole set. I'm not sure
about the image it produces. We have yet to find it out. So let's go find some food. Hey guys so
this is the fisheye lens. You see the wide perspective. And let me remove this lens. So you
can compare it to the X1 main camera. You will see in just a moment how it looks. Well you see
not so good. So I think it's a very special lens that you have to use on special occasions.
Not for everything. It's best for vlogging. It's best for filming or taking photos of
architecture in tight spaces. I think it's good for that kind of shots. We got some fog on the lens.
Now let me show you my travel cinematic kit. I think that besides the lenses the most important
part is the lighting. This is why I'm using this new Molus light. So it's plenty powerful and very
portable. It's actually so powerful even at one percent that I had to use a napkin to diffuse
the light a little. While filming this sequence I realized that my favorite lens from this kit is
the long range macro lens. This lens can only focus up close to this object. So when it's
paired with decent lighting it becomes an amazing combo providing unique perspective. So here is the
result. Using this lens takes a little bit more of hassle. You have to use either a tripod or
a monopod in order to keep everything stable. And also you have squeezed footage which you have to
de-squeeze either once you shoot it in a third-party app or in post. So I'm just giving you a heads up.
It's not that perfect. Like you installed this lens, you're ready to go. You need to work a little bit
in order to get this footage done. But once you completed all of this, you de-squeeze the footage,
you got your lens aligned. In that case you get really nice image with character.
You see with this lens it's very important to align the lens with the horizon so you don't have
any weird distortion. Let me show it to you. So you see sometimes when you touch the lens
it can tilt like this a little bit and everything becomes weird. So you have to always make sure
the horizon is leveled on this lens. Which is really easy to forget sometimes when you're
filming and traveling at the same time. You just touch the lens a little bit, you tilt a couple of
degrees and in that case you get these weird distortions. Alright guys as you see this is
the ideal scenario for the X3 telephoto lens. You put your camera and phone on the tripod and then
you get this beautiful framing. And if you want to come in really close then you can even digitally
zoom in and get that close to your subject. However I still think that the Galaxy is superior in terms
of handheld footage. If you want to get that extra reach it's just out of this world. The
stabilization out of this world. With this setup you have to use a tripod, you have to use a
monopod. I just want to be very transparent here guys. Even though they come really close in terms
of how far you can reach with the Galaxy and with the iPhone 14 Pro with this lens. They're very
similar I think right now. But if you want to film handheld footage in that case S23 Ultra will be
superior because it has that beautiful image stabilization. Here I have to use a tripod or
monopod or something that keeps the phone without any movement. And another thing that I just noticed.
If I want to darken the ND filter because it's VND you need to rotate it like this. But in this way
I rotate the whole filter and the whole lens everything at once. Distortion gets really funny
here. So you need to somehow manage to hold the lens maybe like this and only then you can rotate
the filter and get your exposure right. So that's just something to keep in mind. I don't know who
designs app and camera apps for iPhones but it's horrible. I know guys I told it already in my
previous video where I compared the iPhone 14 Pro to the S23 Ultra but I'll say it again.
iPhone's interface is crap compared to the Samsung. Because Samsung offers all the manual
controls right inside the phone without any problems. You can switch between cameras, between
any settings. But here on the iPhone you have to purchase third-party apps and I do not like it.
And you know I have to say that after filming in different locations, in different scenarios,
different lighting conditions I have two favorite lenses. One is of course, can you guys guess which
one? Yeah it's the Longreach macro lens. I am amazed with the image quality it gives. Okay and
another lens is the telephoto lens that you install on the X1 camera. I am amazed with the image
quality and I do love the bulk it gives. Have a look it just looks amazing. So it's my go-to setup
if it was up to me and you need my advice. Yeah these are two of my favorite ones. You know I think
many people are confused. They think if they buy the latest phone or camera accessory then they will
get maximum quality. When in reality you also need lighting, set design, think about how to position
your props in the frame, camera angle of course and then you sprinkle on top a lot of practice.
And only then when you combine all those elements together you can improve your image and get the
results you want. Just keep on working, keep on experimenting, getting your quality better and
with each project, with each photo. Just improve it by a little bit and then at the end of the year
you'll become better and better and you'll impress yourself eventually looking back at your own works.
Okay thank you so much for watching. If you have any questions drop them down below as always
subscribe and meanwhile make sure to watch one of these videos because I think it will be perfect
for you and I'll see you there. Bye-bye. Okay before getting some food I have to have to fold my tripod
but by the way the images already you've seen with the fisheye lens
how do you like it? I think it's uncomfortable close
