D. H. S. Secretary Kristi Noem was here in Gary, Indiana, standing alongside
Indiana Governor Mike Braun and other top ice officials announcing over 200
immigration related arrests for people, she says, were in the country
illegally and who were driving along state highways. Some of those people,
she says, are convicted criminals and also added that they were possibly
driving semi trucks at the time of their arrest. Now, all of this, she
says, is part of the ongoing operation Midway Blitz, which has been largely
focused on the city of Chicago and on the surrounding areas. The latest
number that we have as part of that operation, a total number of arrests is
3000 people. We asked for a list of who was being arrested aside from the few
100 people mentioned today and the around 100 people we were able to count
from press releases sent by D. H. S. Ice and C. B. P. She said she would get
that list to us and we will follow up. Meanwhile, Governor J. B. Pritzker of
Illinois asking for the Halloween holiday to be immigration enforcement
free to halt operations temporarily while kids are out trick or treating
for the holiday. Secretary Noem said that will not happen. Sabrina Franza,
