So take a look at me now
There's just an empty space
And you coming back to me
Is against the odds
And that's what I've got to face
Hi, I'm Brad.
Hi, I'm John.
So, not many days ago now,
we did a cover from The Immersive Center Party
Well, he won't release another one.
So, you know.
Good for him.
Yeah, so we're gonna, you know.
Two in less than a week.
Congratulations.
Works for us.
Yeah, pretty much.
He's done a cover from some guy called Phil Collins.
I may have heard of him.
Yeah, he's a friend of Jack Daniels.
You know, anyway.
There is actually a drink called Phil Collins, if you're wondering.
I don't know any drinkers, I can tell you.
Neither am I, but it's one of the random things that I know.
Anyway.
Yeah, but you worked at a bar, so.
I don't know how to make it.
Well.
I know it exists.
Anyway.
The song he's done is Against All Odds.
Otherwise known as Against All Odds.
Take a look at me now.
In parentheses.
So, yep.
It's a song by a British
drummer, singer, songwriter, Phil Collins.
Well, it's a British weekend.
No, it really isn't.
It was.
Yes, we reacted to a new band yesterday.
Yes.
Anyway.
It was recorded for us.
The soundtrack of a 1984 movie called Against All Odds.
Haven't seen it.
Terrible.
It's a power ballad, which is protagonist.
It implores an ex-lover to, well, take a look at me now.
Knowing that reconciliation, sorry, is Against All Odds.
I have to look at that show.
I think that's pretty much the synopsis of the movie as well.
If I remember correctly.
I have to know the show, but I'm just blanking on it right now.
Yeah.
So, Phil got the song to number one on the Hot 100 in the US.
Which was the first for his solo career.
I don't know him.
Phil from Genesis.
Yeah.
Someone else.
I seem to think there was another band he was in.
Anyway.
And peaked at number two in England.
Because he just, you know, couldn't quite manage to get it to the
number one spot over there.
That's about it.
Better song at that time over in England.
However, in September of 2000, the pairing of the pop group Westlife
and Mariah Carey managed to make it number one in England.
Yeah.
And Steve Brookstein.
Or Steen.
Depends on how he pronounces it.
I'm good at butchering names.
Who was the guy who won the first X Factor.
He made it a number one in 2005 in England.
I don't know who any of those people are.
Except for Mariah Carey.
And I barely know any from Music Alliance's Christmas jokes.
I'm pretty sure Westlife was one of the pop groups.
Anyway.
No.
Maybe.
I forgot about it.
Anywho.
All right.
Let's check him out for you.
Make sure you hit that like and subscribe.
Check out the description down below.
You're going to find all our links, information and stuff down there.
I'm just amused at the fact that he was a British singer and, you know,
he couldn't get his song to number one in England.
And yet, you know, a Canadian and a boy band could.
And a guy who won a talent contest.
Right.
We never said you guys were.
All right.
Let's check it out.
When I stand.
How can you just walk away from me when all I can do is watch you leave?
You're the only one who really knew me at all.
So take a look at me now.
There's just an empty space.
There's nothing left here to remind me.
Just the memory of your face.
Pauses for YouTube.
Gotta love YouTube.
It's another one.
Just like the last one, actually.
I'm kind of surprised he didn't do it as an acoustic cover.
Oh.
Because.
Well, just like last week's.
Last week's.
A couple of days ago.
A few days ago.
Four days ago.
Three days ago.
It's another song that would have worked really well as an acoustic cover.
I don't have a problem with him just doing a straight cover of it.
I'm just kind of surprised he didn't do it as an acoustic cover.
Yeah.
There's just an empty space.
There's nothing left here to remind me.
Just the memory of your face.
So take a look at me now.
There's just an empty space.
And you coming back to me is against the odds.
And that's what I've gotta face.
I wish I could just make you turn around.
Turn around and see me cry.
There's so much I need to say to you.
So many reasons why.
You're the only one who really knew me at all.
So take a look at me now.
There's just an empty space.
And there's nothing left here to remind me.
Just the memory of your face.
So take a look at me now.
Q-Triples.
I remembered it was coming this time.
Yeah.
I mean, like always.
It's like, you know.
Like I said with Deanna.
It's like you just run out of things to say.
Because it's like.
Yeah.
It's like.
It just repeats on the same thing over and over again.
It's like when you're good, you're good.
Yeah.
And as I've said before.
He is very good at picking songs that suit his singing style.
It's like maybe he needs to do a bad song.
So then we could say, oh, that was horrible.
You know.
But it's like, there again.
Deanna did that.
When she was on that TV show.
Yeah.
That sounds terrible.
Yeah.
I mean, she sang good.
Yeah.
She sang good.
But the song was bad.
And it just didn't go with her.
But I think it was a song that was picked by her.
No, it wasn't.
She actually did pick it.
Oh, I see.
So.
Anyway, now we're there.
We're halfway on someone else.
So correct.
Anyway.
Cool.
So.
Yeah.
And I think, you know.
We mentioned it before.
And mentioned it probably many times.
It's just him in that setting.
I just.
I like it.
Because it's like.
There again.
He's just in there.
He's just singing.
Yeah.
You know.
He turns the camera on.
And the recording assistant is singing.
I mean.
However he's editing.
But it's like.
He just got that feeling.
You know.
Like.
What the heck.
We're just sitting here.
Watching a thing.
And we've got the camera.
Yeah.
And then rambling about.
Yeah.
It feels.
It's a bit of a nonsense.
But.
Yeah.
Rather than ones.
Yeah.
Like you said.
Where he's.
You know.
On the beach and stuff.
It's a really beautiful setting and stuff.
But it feels more music video.
Yeah.
Whereas this feels more like.
You know.
Just a raw kind of performance.
Between.
Yeah.
You watching it.
And him singing.
And some of the other people just kind of.
It's like.
He's just.
Like I said.
He's just in there singing.
And not putting on a big show.
Like.
You know.
Others might be doing.
And you know.
It's just.
We're just.
Two guys.
Watching a video.
That you guys.
Recommended us to do.
And you know.
We're.
Getting into it.
We're watching it.
We're not going to.
And I don't know.
That's why I just.
Like about his stuff.
Yeah.
It feels.
Yeah.
He's in his studio.
He's sitting.
Record on his camera.
Just feels real.
And grumpy.
Yeah.
You know.
It's just.
Yeah.
That's what I just.
Like about his style.
Especially.
These.
Types that he does.
Yeah.
Like I said.
I kind of wish.
You'd actually.
You know.
Done this as a.
Acoustic cover.
Because it's kind of like.
You know.
You could.
You know.
See there.
Towards the end.
And his voice.
Was getting up.
A bit.
Yeah.
He's.
Kind of like.
Pushing towards.
You know.
His.
You know.
Rock.
What I tend to think of.
As his.
Singing voice.
With that kind of.
Grass behind it.
And everything.
And it's kind of like.
The song.
Isn't.
The kind of song.
To kind of like.
Push all the way.
Into that.
Right.
So it's kind of like.
Yeah.
Probably should have just.
You know.
Kept it.
Just as an acoustic cover.
Rather than doing it.
As an.
Almost rock song.
Sort of thing.
Because it's.
It's soft rock.
Well.
If you're listening.
You could do it.
I mean.
I'd say.
What.
The last one we did.
Like.
Maybe.
You should do.
Do it both ways.
Yeah.
Do an acoustic cover.
As well.
Because I don't know.
I liked it.
And I'll probably like it.
Acoustic way too.
Yeah.
I said.
I just like a style.
It's like.
This.
Relaxed.
Setback.
You know.
Late.
Late back.
Style.
You know.
So.
Like.
It was.
Sort of.
The camera.
As being us.
Rambling on about.
Nonsense.
But.
Get what you get.
I guess.
Like always.
We're going to continue.
Getting them.
Up some more.
So, if you want to see those.
Make sure.
You get that like.
