Hi, I'm Brad. I'm John. Well, we said we were going to look at doing some more Mission Souls
live stuff. As it happens, they released a couple more live things, so we're going to do
some more live stuff. They've done this before. This is a studio cover, which we haven't done
this song, so we're going to do the live version instead.
So this is a cover. We can do that on later. Yeah, that's true. We do have the entire family
playing this time. Got mom and dad in there. I think it's Jacob's Bar and Restaurant,
I think is what it is. It's behind them. I'm sure there's a close-up of it.
I'm sure whenever- John's looking at a little picture like this, I'm like-
Yeah, whenever Ice is on screen, I'm sure we'll actually be able to see exactly where that is.
I can't even see where he is. He's behind, straight behind mom,
and mom is front and center on that. We've got the video. It's small.
Yeah, it's like a postage stamp. Oh, it's a quarter of the screen. Anyway,
the song is an Alanis Morissette cover. I think I only know one of her songs.
I probably know one or two. I don't think this is one of them.
I say that until we hit play, and then it's kind of like, oh, I think I've heard this before.
I think it's the one she's in a vehicle. I think it's a breakup song, I think. I think it's the
one from the guy from Full House. I don't know. Anyway, I'm pretty sure that's the only song I
know. The song is called Uninvited. Let's see. Oh, this was at the Sinulog Festival.
It's an- Oh, there we go. English.
It's hard.
Yeah, very. It's an annual Filipino cultural and religious festival held on the third Sunday in
January in typically Cebu, capital city in the Philippines. Strangely enough, that just happens
to be where they live. Imagine that.
Isn't that weird? It's a coincidence. So they were doing musical numbers, basically,
at Jacob's, which I made note of where they were, but didn't actually make a note of what it was.
So Uninvited, which was released in 1998 for the City of Angels soundtrack,
which means I have to have heard it because I've seen the movie.
Therefore, I have to have heard this song at least one time because I've watched the movie
at least one time.
Yeah, probably then.
We shall see.
Yeah. So it's a Grammy-winning intense ballad exploring themes of intense attraction,
emotional detachment, and forbidden desire. Thank you, AI.
Tom says you won a Grammy on it.
Yeah, probably.
So more likely probably.
Yeah, we probably have, actually. The song delves into the tension of being desired by
someone who remains emotionally distant, with lyrics focusing on the feelings of being an
uninvited yet intriguing presence in someone else's life.
Okay.
That's what AI tells us, and AI knows all.
We were warned about Skynet, but here we are.
Yes, yes, yes. We were watching 9-1-1 the other day.
Anyway.
Yeah, they're starting to get a little loud.
That show has always been a little. It's getting a little worse.
Yeah, anyway. Oh, now I can see.
All right.
Are we ready?
Yes.
All right, before we get going, hit the...
Hit the like and subscribe.
Okay.
Okie dokie.
My big question is, who's holding the camera?
Mum is up singing.
Stan.
Dad is playing bass.
Is it just floating?
Is there another family member we don't see?
Nobody uses Stans. I mean, that's just silly.
Okay.
I know it says bar. I'm assuming the other bit says restaurant.
It kind of sounds familiar.
I recognize it. It's an odd song, and I recognize it because of the odd way that you sing it.
You might have, but probably didn't catch it there.
Where mum was singing at the beginning, and she was actually singing slightly.
I don't know which way is it. Slightly flat.
Slightly out of tune with the music.
Which it's, yeah, it's obviously it's like that in the original as well.
I always thought that was such a weird and hard thing to do.
Because you've got the music effectively playing in tune, whatever key it is,
is playing in tune, but you're singing is slightly out of tune with the music.
Okay.
You'd have to listen to the first bit again to catch what I'm talking about.
I'm probably not that music.
It's supposed to be like that.
It's one of those odd things.
I think it's the reason why I recognize the song.
Because, you know, having heard the original, it's kind of like,
it was one of the things that stuck in my head about it as kind of like,
wow, that's really different.
It's a very unusual effect that you get from it.
Where's my?
There it is.
That's another good one for Ice.
He actually gets to play, you know.
It is.
It seems like a lot of the modern stuff they've done does.
A lot of the modern stuff they do,
Ice tends to have a bigger drumming role.
Whereas it seems like when they pick classic numbers,
the vintage things from the 60s and 70s and stuff,
it seems like he ends up basically being,
why am I here?
I have a drum machine over here.
I could just do that and hit repeat.
And I'm one of the great locals.
Drummers aren't appreciated enough.
Not like bass players.
The bass players.
Hi, Dad.
He gets to stand there and look cool and just go.
They are here, man.
Even behind plexiglass.
That's true.
Yeah.
I've never figured that one out.
Ever since COVID, they've started putting drummers behind plexiglass.
Why?
I don't know the sound.
I don't know why.
Well, no, it seems like ever since COVID happened,
they've started shoving drummers behind plastic.
And everybody else has lost their little splash guard.
But the drummer is kind of like,
no, leave them in a box.
I say it every time.
It's great to watch them.
Great to watch them enjoying themselves.
It's great to see kids, young kids,
that are interested in music.
They're interested in playing instruments.
Not just, oh, we're going to be singing to the band.
Yeah, that's nice.
Can you go on American Idol?
Why?
Yeah, it's great seeing.
Well, a bunch of kids and family as well.
Oh, yeah.
Coming together to be interested in music,
play music, and continue, of course, some of the great music that we grew up with.
We grew up with that because that was from the late 90s.
But yeah.
And like I said, it sounds familiar, but I just can't.
Yeah.
Yeah, maybe if I heard her sing it, it would sound very similar.
Yeah, because it definitely sounds familiar, but I just can't.
Yeah, it's one of the songs that I always forget about.
But yeah, like I said, it's one of those songs that sticks in my head
because you have that slightly odd discordant harmony with the vocal and the music.
You're singing sharp or flat, and then you drop into tune with the music,
and then you shift out again, and stuff like that.
And the music always had that...
I don't want to say Middle East because it's the wrong style of music,
but since I can't remember the exact kind of area,
that sort of slightly Middle East flavor to the music.
Middle East flavor, that's not Middle East flavor.
Yeah, it's not Middle East.
It's the right general area of the globe.
I just can't remember which specific part of the globe
in that kind of general area that that style comes from.
Well, maybe you know, so you can help me out.
Yeah, help me out on that one.
Maybe I'm thinking Indian.
Well, I'll put you thinking Indian.
It's Sitar.
Possibly, any one of them.
I can tell you, so yeah.
Well, obviously, we're going to continue hitting the map,
so if you want to see those, make sure to hit that like and subscribe.
