Welcome to a new video on the written expression on C1 level.
Today we are dealing with an exciting and controversial topic,
the parental right to choose,
i.e. the question of whether parents may choose for their children in addition.
This topic is perfect for the C1 textbook,
because it can be viewed from different perspectives.
In the exam, the task is roughly like this.
In a seminar, you should explain the topic
So you should find arguments for and against it,
name examples and in the end
show your own point of view convincingly.
In the task you will often find two quotes
that give you a direction.
I have easily rephrased them for you
so that you can use them as inspiration.
Quote 1, pro
This could lead to more consideration for children
and a more family-friendly society.
Quote 2, contra
These two statements clearly show the two sides of the issue.
The introduction should briefly introduce the topic
and show why it is currently relevant.
In a democracy, every adult has the right to choose.
But again and again it is discussed
whether children and adolescents should also be politically represented by their parents.
The idea of parental right to choose
raises exciting questions about equality,
responsibility and justice.
So you have the reader directly on the subject.
Clear, precise and neutral.
Let's start with the arguments for parental right to choose.
1, more weight for family interests
Parents know what their children need.
They experience daily how political decisions
influence family life.
An additional right to choose could lead to
2, demographic balance
In many countries the population gets older
while young people are politically underrepresented.
A parental right to choose would ensure
that the future of the younger generation is also taken into account.
3, strengthening of family consciousness
If parents know that they also vote in the name of their children,
they could deal more intensively with social issues.
This promotes responsibility and solidarity.
On the other hand, there are also weighty counter-arguments.
1, injustice between families and children.
Parents would have more votes than other citizens.
This contradicts the principle
that every vote is equally valuable.
2, danger of distortion
Not all parents act in the interest of their children.
Some would vote for selfish or party-political reasons
and not in the interest of the younger generation.
3, complexity in implementation
It would be difficult to control who is allowed to vote for how many children
and whether abuse can be excluded.
In the end, you formulate your own opinion clearly and reflectively.
In my opinion, parental right to choose
is an interesting idea that would be difficult to implement in practice.
While the interests of children should be taken into account in politics,
other solutions are needed.
For example, more participation for young people
or a targeted family policy.
A fair election system should treat all people equally,
regardless of whether they are parents or not.
Finally, a few tips for your exam.
Use clear structure.

also, consequently, nevertheless.

Not just opinion, but justification.

Useful phrases.
A central argument is that
from a democratic theoretical point of view
it is to be considered that
this would inevitably lead to the question of
whether advocates argue that
opponents warn against
that a parent election law could bring advantages
at the same time.
Overall, the question is whether such a model
is compatible with the principle of equality.
