Hi guys, in this video I want to talk about the DJI RS4 Mini
gimbal that I've got up here
and that I've had a chance to use over
the last six months on various jobs.
So I've shot a bunch of short films and
actually a couple music
videos with this gimbal
and it's a great gimbal especially if
you're going to travel,
which is where I used it.
I used it in these productions where I
had to travel but it
was a very small crew.
We also didn't have a big budget for
carrying a lot of gear so we
had to rely on smaller cameras
and because of that I could take a
smaller gimbal that takes
up less space in my luggage.
Obviously the biggest feature of this is
the fact that you pretty
much have an RS4 gimbal
but in a slightly smaller format so it
makes it a lot easier to travel with it
because you can pack it in a lot smaller
luggage. I actually traveled
and I only took my carry-on
luggage for one of the jobs that I did
and so I was able to
fit my Sony FX3 camera,
a couple lenses and just a gimbal and it
was enough to actually
shoot this whole project.
That is really good if you want to be
using this for tracking so
you can use it for tracking
yourself. It will actually lock onto your
face and you can turn on
and off the feature for
tracking just with your hand which is a
good thing but sometimes
that can actually be a bad
thing because there was actually one case
where I was shooting a music video
performance with this
setup that you see up here and everything
was great until I started
realizing that sometimes
the camera like sometimes it will
basically follow exactly
where I'm pointing the camera
and sometimes it would just go off and do
its own thing and it wasn't
until I kind of clicked in
and realized that I left the camera under
and so whenever the artist
was moving her hands in front
of the camera she actually by accident
sometimes enabled the facial
tracking and then disabled it
and enabled it and disabled it and so in
that case it was actually kind of
annoying. Now you can go
through the settings on the app and you
can kind of manually enable,
disable it, you have options
there but that's something to basically
be aware of is that it's
especially if you have somebody
talking and moving their hands a lot that
can actually be basically
it can make the gimbal kind
of go a little bit wacky on you so just
be aware of that. Another
thing that I wish DJI would
provide is actually first of all nice
case so when you're traveling with it you
have it you know you
can kind of put it away nicely and keep
it protected but also a
little case for this thing
because like I said you can remove this
so if you don't want the
facial tracking you can remove
this camera easily. Now the issue with
taking off the camera is that it's very
small so you can lose
it easily but also you could scratch that
lens so I actually ended up
using like a little case for
my lavalier microphones and I just put it
in that but I wish DJI
actually provided like a little
protective little case for this and
definitely if you guys want to I would
say travel with this
gimbal and you're gonna have this camera
get yourself a nice
travel case that will protect
both this camera and the gimbal for you.
Now there are already a few
options out there that you can
buy separately if you guys want
information on that as
always check out my website at
TomAntusFilms.com. Putting the camera is
super easy you can see it
has a magnet and it just kind
of snaps in place. Also what I like in
general about this gimbal
is that just like the RS4
it just makes it super easy you know fast
to balance your camera
and then when you want to
turn on and off the camera you can easily
have it basically go into
lag mode so it will lag all the
axis for you and then you can unlock it
quickly so when the gimbal is on if you
want to just quickly
pause it you just tap the power button
and it just lags all the
axis for you so you can see
right now I can travel with it I can or I
can for example just leave
it here if I'm taking a quick
break and the motors are now using power
so it's going to conserve
your battery in your gimbal and
then this way you can quickly just tap it
it unlocks all the axis
for you and you can go back
to filming with it. Now let's say you're
going to actually turn it
off for longer then you would
press and hold the power button and then
we'll actually fold it
all for you and shut off
completely the gimbal. You can see the
screen is off and then you
know you can take it with you
put it away for example and then when
you're ready start filming
with it again you press and hold
longer the power button. It's going to
power up the gimbal and
go to your neutral position
so this makes it super fast like if you
need to turn on and off the gimbal
between takes or setups.
The app for this and also just a menu
here that you have on
the back of this gimbal
is very very good very intuitive so makes
it super easy and fast
to change all the settings
really that you want to change while
you're working with this.
You can obviously change
all the different modes that the gimbal
offers but you can also
even go in there further and
kind of tweak the different settings,
dampening speeds you know the tracking
speed things like that.

We're fixing the Vespa. It only worked for
a few hours and it broke but it's an
antique from 1960 something so.
