Everyone makes mistakes. From sports
stars on TV to the waiter down the road.
I am so sorry. The difference between
failure and success is knowing how to
recover. Successful people don't let
their mistakes defeat them. They see
them as an opportunity to learn. So
today we give you four tips on how to
recover from mistakes.
[Music]
Number one, reflect on the mistake. No
one likes how it feels to make a
mistake. It's embarrassing. Sometimes
it's easier to ignore it and hope nobody
brings it up. This pink apron is in
direct violation of our white apron only
policy. Uh, what are you talking about?
It's It's always been pink. If you
ignore your mistakes, you're just going
to keep making them over and over.
Always. Reflecting on the mistake helps
you understand its impact and motivates
you to change. It gives you the chance
to think about what you can do
differently next time. Maybe next time I
shouldn't wash my white apron with my
lobster PJs. If you're having a hard
time knowing what to change, usually the
people around you will have a pretty
good idea. Yep. Sometimes we make
mistakes because we have a blind spot.
So listen carefully and don't be
offended when people give advice. Number
two, take personal responsibility. If
you have a sibling, you know how good a
human can be at shifting blame. So,
boys, which of you
two broke my Santa? Colin broke it.
Uh-uh. It was your fault. You threw a
box of cereal at my head. If you
wouldn't have ducked it when it hit the
Santa. Well, if you want to throw in the
box, I wouldn't have duck. Well, if you
weren't so annoying. Taking ownership
for a mistake is hard. It's much easier
to find something else to blame. Maybe
you stubbed your toe, couldn't find
matching socks, or got that last serving
of dusty cereal for
breakfast. There's always a way to make
an excuse. The truth is, people see
through it. You're late. It's not my
fault. I had dusty cereal this morning,
and it just completely threw my day off,
man.
When you make an excuse for yourself, it
keeps you stuck. Even if the mistake
isn't completely your fault, the dusty
cereal, you need to take responsibility
for the part you played. You can't solve
a problem without addressing the cause.
So, cut the charades and just own up.
You know, it's not the dusty cereal,
it's me. I just need to leave for work a
little sooner. Others will respect you
more. You will respect you more. And you
can actually fix the problem and put it
behind you. Here's a little trick for
you. Don't eat the last serving of
cereal. That way, you avoid the dust.
Number three, make things right. Some
mistakes don't just hurt you, they hurt
others. When that happens, the first
step is to apologize, and not just out
of obligation. Sorry I broke your phone,
man. Told you you should have got a case
for it. Apologize sincerely and look for
ways to make things right. Hey, man. Uh,
I'm sorry I broke your phone. If you
ever need to borrow mine, just call me.
Helping repair the damage is the least
you can do. Actually, just just borrow
mine.
And it's the best way to keep your
reputation and your relationship strong.
Sorry. You're good. I'm so sorry. You're
good, buddy. Yep. Sometimes shame or
embarrassment makes us want to run away
from the situation. But this just keeps
you stuck in a cycle of self-lame and
regret. Making things right is the only
way to truly forgive yourself and heal
the relationship. Number four, learn
from the mistake and set realistic
goals. When you're in the middle of a
mistake, it can feel like the end of the
world. Why?
[Music]
Life goes on and usually we forget it
ever happened.
So don't live paralyzed in fear or
shame. Learn how to see mistakes as a
friend. With each mistake comes an
opportunity to learn and improve. So
when you make a mistake, pause and
evaluate what you could have done
differently. I guess I probably could
have just looked at the chair before I
sat down. Just don't stop there. It's
not enough to simply know what you did
wrong. Make a plan for what to change
next time and set goals for improvement.
From now on, I'm always going to look at
the chair before I sit in it. It takes
some effort, but it's totally worth it.
Overcoming your mistakes feels amazing
and sets you up for success. Oh yeah.
Remember, even the greatest figures in
history made mistakes, but they didn't
let those mistakes define them. They
learn from and use the lessons to
accomplish even greater things. And you
can do the same. So, let's recap how to
recover from your mistakes. Number one,
reflect on the mistake. Number two, take
personal responsibility. Number three,
make things right. And number four,
learn from the mistake and set realistic
goals. Thank you for watching this
how-to video for Prageru. I hope you
learned something new. Violation of our
white apron only
policy. No one eats cereal anymore.
We've been eating oatmeal since 1863.
You know, son, I
accept. So,
I'm going to go home. Okay. Okay.
