Today we're going to cover the watches worn at the Oscars, a very intense looking Seiko
and we are welcoming a new member to the Rolex brand, Ambassador family, among many other
things.
So let's get started.
Hi everyone.
My name is Jenny and I know from my own experience how hard it is to keep up with the news and
watch news especially.
So to make life easier for you, I filtered through all the books and sites to bring you
the most important watch stories and releases of the past couple of weeks.
So lean back, turn up the volume and let me update you.
The Oscars happened at the start of this week.
It was the 97th Academy Awards ceremony that took place, it was always in LA and of course
there were plenty of watches to spot on the wrists of all of these celebrities.
I'm obviously not going to go through every single one, but I want to show you some of
the cool highlights and you can click on the link down below, I've put it in the description
box.
After watching this video, if you want to click through a more, you know, detailed showcase
of the watches worn on the red carpet this year and yeah, I think it goes without saying
that probably, I don't know, like 99% of the watches worn weren't personal picks or something
the person has in their own collection I would assume, but something a stylist has picked
out or something from a brand deal or like a brand ambassadorship.
All right, let's look at the first watch worn by a British singer and songwriter, Ray.
I love her.
She is wearing a really icy and beautiful AP Royal Oak Mini, the reference number 67630BC
and she not only wore it when walking on the red carpet, but she capped it on even though
she changed her outfit to perform a James Bond tribute where she changed, you know,
the earrings, the rings and the dress, but she kept on her Audemars Piguet.
It is a frosted white gold quartz AP with a tiny diameter of only 23 millimeter and
it is a modern interpretation of the Mini Royal Oak from 1997 with a retail price of
34,000 euro, but you can see offers on chrono for like a bit over 60,000.
Our next is director and screenwriter and producer John Chu, who is probably currently
best known for directing Wicked.
He paired his dark green kind of a shimmering suit with a vintage Patek from the 1970s.
It is a stainless steel Calatrava with the reference number 3579 and it is as classic
as it gets with the cushion shaped case and the very simple dial design.
It is a Calatrava after all.
Patek also released this in a silver dial and they go on chrono for about like 17 to
18,000 and then we have actor Jeff Goldblum who wears a beautiful Vacheron Constantin
Egerie with a moon face in a rose gold case.
This one has a very special moon face.
It sits on the one and two o'clock position and has a diamond rim and, you know, I'm not
quite sure if this might be a custom Vacheron where they mix the lilac dial of the version
with a different case or if this is the satin gray version with the matching case.
Couldn't really tell from the photos.
Sometimes it looks gray, sometimes it looks lilac.
Either way, it is a stunning watch that retails for $39,900.
Up next, I quickly want to cover a really cool story from Ferland Mary.
They have started their community design lab.
You can access and click through a poll on the website and cast your vote on different
design choices like diameter, cache, indices, material, etc.
And the final watch will be produced next year.
So if you take part in the poll, you will get access to a special retail price according
to the website.
And after each voting round, and I'm not sure how many they're going to be in total, five
participants get some Ferland Mary goodies as a thank you for participating, which I
think is cool.
And overall, I think this is a fantastic idea.
I'm really excited to see what we're going to end up with after voting.
It would be cool if they published the results throughout the rounds so you could see at
the end what the second or, I don't know, like a third favorite options were along the
way.
Yeah, if you want to take part, I will link the website down below.
I already voted.
And yeah, I am super curious to see what we're going to end up with.
And on a quick Rolex note, none other than my mother informed me about this news because
she just sent me WhatsApp saying that Leonardo DiCaprio is now joining Rolex as a brand ambassador
as it was announced in this new clip from Rolex.
I do believe he fits very well into the Rolex brand ambassador family, and I'm sure we're
going to see more promo clips of him wearing a Rolex in the upcoming weeks and years, I
guess.
He's also no stranger to being a brand ambassador for a watch brand.
He used to be one for Tag Heuer, actually, when he signed with them in 2009.
And you could even see him wearing a Tag Heuer in his role in The Wolf of Wall Street because,
you know, he had a contract with them, so he had to wear it for the filming of this
movie.
Okay, now that we have covered the industry news, let's quickly go over the new releases.
It's been a weird, but, you know, nonetheless interesting week as far as I can tell.
We're going to start with something a bit more tame from Breitling.
They released an icy blue new Navitimer B19 Perpetual Calendar 43 in stainless steel,
entirely outfitted with the last year released B19 Automatic Perpetual Calendar movement.
Follows the previously limited edition rose gold version.
I think they've had three of them of the perpetual calendar and is now available in
stainless steel without, you know, any limitations to it.
So this is not a limited edition like the previous ones.
The layout and printing on the dial is, you know, a bit busy.
This is a Navitimer after all, but still very balanced.
And like I've mentioned, this comes with an icy blue dial with a very subtle sunburst.
Since this is Breitling and Navitimer, we also have to deal with the 43 millimeter
diameter and the height of almost 50 millimeter.
Just so you know, you can also choose to buy it on a strap for $29,000 or you can get it
with a matching steel bracelet for $29,500.
The next release from Seiko made me do a double take when I looked into my email inbox because
I had absolutely zero idea what this was about.
But, you know, it just looked really, I don't know, like silly.
It is a new Seiko 5 Sports in collaboration with MoonEyes.
And MoonEyes is or was, and I hope I got this right, though I am German.
I'm absolutely not into cars.
So I tried my best here.
A producer of original car parts for Hot Rods and other special cars, if I got that right.
They have been around since the 50s.
And, you know, they're now nowadays very much a symbol of that whole Hot Rod nostalgia.
And if you're just as confused as to how this unlikely partnership with Seiko was created,
well, welcome to the family.
But here's the answer.
In 1996, Moon of Japan was founded, which is a Japanese branch, like an offshoot of MoonEyes.
And they established the scene in Japan.
So that's your, you know, connection with Seiko right there, being Japanese too.
It is a limited edition to 1,500 pieces.
It's sporting racing, though, with a bright, like really bright yellow dial with black accents.
And the MoonEyes logo at 6.
And similar things are happening on the case back with the yellow coloring and the logo on it too.
You get this whole box and it will be delivered with a matching fabric strap to your steel bracelet.
And it is going to be sold for 450 euro.
Like I said, I haven't heard about MoonEyes before.
And this is absolutely not my cup of tea.
But you know I enjoy fun design and watches.
So I thought some of you might too.
Which leads me directly to our last release.
Something is so cool.
And I am this close to hitting confirm on the order button.
It is a new Mido Commander 1959 with a dial.
You just, you know, have to smile.
And this Commander goes back to its first release in 1959,
which is where, you know, the reissue gets its name from.
Because it was released in 1959 at first.
It is pretty much one of Mido's most iconic watches.
And they have kept the essence of the watch alive, even in the new releases, I think.
I mean, yes, as you can see here, the dial is pretty crazy.
But the 60s disco inspired dial mixes very well with the design cues from the same time period.
All repackaged into a very modern watch.
I can't really put my finger on it.
But I just have to say this watch simply works.
It just works.
The fonts of the Mido logo and the Commander writing are beautiful.
I think, you know, that bit of a, it's got a bit of a swing to it.
The simple indices match so well.
The very interesting looking hand design and the pixels and their colors are so fun to look at.
Mido states on the website that those pixels are partially covered in color coordinated superlumino.
And you can see here on the press photos the effect, which is cool.
But I would probably have to see that one in real life
to really see how well that effect really comes to life
when you actually get to see that one in person.
As far as I can read, this is not a limited edition available from now on with a price tag of $740.
And this is all I have for you today.
You have now been updated.
