Alright guys, I finally got my hands on the new Seiko Speed Timer.
Big thanks to Exquisite Timepieces in Maples, Florida.
My contact Tyler there hooking me up with this guy.
Kind of early in the game, SPV513, retail price $995 just under that $1000 squeaking
in and using the caliber 6R55, 72 hour power reserve or as Seiko would like to constantly
remind you, and it really does bug people, 3 days power reserve on the dial.
I know that triggers some people.
That stuff doesn't bother me.
They have to draw attention to it, right?
They achieved 72 hour power reserve with the 6R55, they need to advertise that.
That's why it's on the dial.
One day maybe it won't be on the dial, but for now it is and they're proud of it as they
should be.
So Seiko, awesome watches.
You guys know all of them.
I'm actually wearing my Saab 059 Alpinist, which is kind of an older, odd duck and this
one kind of is too.
I'm curious to see how well it's received.
The Speed Timer is a watch that Seiko did back in the 70s.
It was a chronograph and it was kind of really known for that bracelet, the style bracelet,
which this one also pays tribute to, but it's not a chronograph.
It's just a three handed movement with a date and then it has an inner rotating countdown
timer bezel.
So a little more simplified, maybe a little more usable.
Maybe we don't need that chronograph.
Seiko does some really good chronographs that look similar to this as well.
They jump way up in price though.
So they do have something there for you if that's what you're looking for, but I'm glad
they made this one because it's kind of like that Alpinist look and vibe to it, but with
a more motorsports theme to it instead of like, Hey, I'm going to climb a huge mountain
in Japan and stuff like that.
It's like, well, no, I'm just, I want to time how long it takes for my hostess, you know,
to seat me so I can eat, eat my pizza or something, you know, that's what we're going to use it
for.
Or maybe, you know, if you're at a racetrack or something, you're timing something, probably
likely your timing to see how accurate the hostess says, you know, it's 15 to 20 minutes
before you're seated.
That's probably how I would use it.
Case size on this 39.6 millimeter.
Even though Seiko says 39, I do measure all of these and it is 39.6 or 39 and a half.
The lug to lug on the shorter side, 44 millimeter.
That's going to make this watch work on pretty much everybody's wrist.
Thickness only 12.3 millimeter.
You can see that single dome distortion on that Sapphire crystal and you have 20 millimeter
lug opening.
This watch would look killer on some really nice warm brown leather straps, or even some
fabric straps, maybe some FKM straps that pulls out that orange that's in the inner
rotating bezel and on the tip of the seconds hand.
So a lot of good options on this.
This bracelet is super cool and comfortable and vintage retro looking and it does taper
down to 18, but you have a very simple milled only one micro adjust, but the links aren't
super long.
So I don't think that's going to be a hard time getting that sized in.
Seven millimeter push pull crown.
Yeah, it's a push pull crown and it still has 200 meter water resist.
So water resistance isn't always about screwing down the crown.
Oftentimes screwing down the crown only means that you're not going to accidentally pop
up the crown while you're submerged.
Now there are some crown tube designs that do rely on another gasket system that will
further seal it when you screw it down.
That's not the case with a lot of 200 meter watches like that.
So I don't think that's a deal breaker for me and it is a nice oversized crown.
It's easy to operate.
This crown is a little bit smaller.
I didn't measure that one.
I can measure that one if you're interested.
It is probably about six millimeters.
So six, seven, you know, that's nice.
You don't want a huge crown there because you already have it there.
I think we covered pretty much everything.
Let's do a quick close up on this thing.
I'm trying to do my best to capture the color on this thing.
It was a little, I don't know, washed out or if you look at it in certain lights at
distance, it almost has a look of being white.
And some of the earlier pictures I looked at, I kind of thought it was white.
It's not.
It's like an off-white silvery type color.
I'm not really, I can't really lock it down to tell you exactly what it is.
But there is white on there and you can see the contrast.
So you have the numbers and the markers and the loom and everything is all done in white.
So you can see it's definitely not that.
Even the date wheel stuffed in between the four and five, that's white with black printing.
Now I do like that on the timing, inner rotating bezel, chapter ring, whatever you want to
call it.
It has that touch of orange, but only in between zero and 15.
And then that ties in really nice with that orange tipped seconds hand.
Applied Seiko logo as well.
And that is nicely brushed.
That's super cool.
Good legible watch.
Let's pop it on my seven and a quarter inch wrist so you can see what that looks like.
I try to wear this more and more.
These Saab 059s, this one's a little beat up, but I have some spare parts.
These are some really cool archive type watches that Seiko long since has discontinued and
that's going to continue to be the case.
You're going to see watches, potentially something like this, when you have a stacked lineup,
you know, when you come out with a speed timer and then you got a new Elf in this coming
out and stuff like that too.
I do sometimes wonder if watches like this will kind of get lost.
You know what I mean?
Like it'll just be a quick, I don't want to say one hit wonder because that's not what
Seiko produces, but like it'll be a really good watch that didn't maybe get the attention
because of timing of its release compared to some other really good icons and you can
see it.
It's a great looking watch.
It wears great.
I think a lot of people are going to enjoy this, but I could see potentially the speed
timer coming and going, you know what I mean?
Cause it's, it is fairly similar to that Elf in this and I think more people are going
to probably be drawn to that Elf in this.
Let me know what you guys think down below on that.
Would you get, I'm going to get that watch too.
The new Elf in this, the green one, they changed some things on it and it's a new part number.
I'm going to get that.
Exquisite has it.
I'm just, I'll probably get it like on the next patch.
So I'm looking forward to reviewing that one as well.
Let me give it a quick blast of the UV light.
We'll turn off the studio lights and check out the lume together cause I have not seen
it yet.
Oftentimes when I get to this point, whether I'm putting it on wrist or doing the lume,
this that's my first time experiencing it.
So it's kind of real time reaction.
Really large triangle lume down that inner rotating chapter bezel thing.
That's like a larger lume plot than I figured it would be.
So, but then, you know, smaller dots and then, I mean, it's sacral lume.
So even with small real estate like that, it's still going to glow like a torch.
So big thanks to Exquisite.
Tell them I sent you.
Reach out to Tyler.
I'll see you guys on the next vid.
