Have you been to Londons Borough Market yet? Said to be one of the most famous in the world. Its a foodies paradise no doubt but are the prices too much. Find out how much I spend at the end of this video. Enjoy!
Is Borough Market the best street food location in London or is Borough Market a tourist trap?
All I know is there is so much to offer, there's truly something for everyone
and today I'll be showing you some of my favourite spots but for now
it's cold outside, let's get on with this one.
For those of you who aren't familiar with Borough Market, it's one of London's most
iconic street food destinations dating back over a thousand years. It has a rich history,
overcoming countless challenges to become what it is today. Now it's home to various stalls
offering everything from fresh produce and seafood to artisan cheese and meats. Today
I'll be focusing on the street food and ready to eat dishes. First up on the list is a sandwich
spot, it's said to be the best in the city. I can't wait to try it, let's go check it out.
So in hand we have a sandwich from the Black Pig. This place doesn't really need much of an
introduction, as I said before people say this is one of the best sandwich spots in the whole of
London. I've gone for the best one today which is a best seller on the menu, a sandwich stuffed to
the brim. We've got their specialty slow roasted pork which is obviously the main event. We have a
truffle mayo in there, we have a green sauce and a red sauce which obviously resembles like maybe
a herby touch, a spicy touch. We have a slaw in there for texture and then as you saw a shower
of parmesan on top all stuffed between the toasted chia batter.
Whoa, oh my god, wait, this here is everything you could ask for. The textures, the flavours
are immense, the slaw is crunchy, the pork is mad juicy, you've got three types of sauces in here
that just work in tandem. The salsa verde which I read is amazing, it's got what I think is called
a pepperoncini I believe or something like that which is mad and then that blizzard of parmesan
on top, that's just basically like the cherry on top for me. As I took my bite, it just blew away.
I'm going in for one more.
And the chia batter as well, sometimes the bread makes a difference. This is quality,
perfectly toasted as well, I've been tucking away. The only downside to this,
make sure you bring a bib, I've been making an absolute mess. I'm going to enjoy the rest of
this and I'll meet you at the next spot. Standing all the way back here, sometimes the queue
bending all the way to the main roads, we're going to be here for a minute.
Welcome to Furnace Fish Grill, it's hard to miss these big pans just whipping up paella,
you've got the rice, you've got the chicken, you've got the prawns, you've got the lobster.
This place here, I'm sure it's probably the busiest in the market. Looking at this, you cannot
tell me this is not a sight to behold, the lobster, the prawns, the size of the prawns is mad
and then underneath that, you've got the paella, which has got the chicken in it,
got the little prawns, got mussels, all the peas and the veg floating around. Oh, that nearly fell.
We're going to give it a dash of lemon first, oh my gosh.
A bit of lemon on top, all over,
give it a bit of a zesty pudge, that lobster cannot drop on the floor.
I'm going to go in for the rice first, get under there, cheers.
Every time I come to this place, it does not disappoint, the rice is seasoned to the max.
Get a bit of chicken on the front, chicken is really juicy as well.
This is a lovely plate of food, it's so moorish, I keep finding myself going back for a bite.
So I've just took about five hours deshelling the lobster,
but you can see it here, I must say this looks extremely juicy.
It's hit with a garlic butter that is complementing this lobster so, so well.
It tastes extremely fresh and it's cooked to perfection, it's so juicy.
I don't know if I've said this before, but this is another one of my favourites.
If I had one pointer, I wish you could get those crispy bits of rice floating about here and there
from where they're scraping the bottom of the pan, it could just be like, say burnt a little bit more.
So next up we have the prawn,
on the topper side no doubt, but again, really fresh.
So we're now on to our next spot, as you peer over my shoulder,
the ginger pig, underneath you'll see sausage rolls, I've had these before, these are amazing.
Hi, could I get one sausage roll please?
Thank you very much, thank you very much, good secured.
Let's do the big reveal, wrapped up like a Christmas present.
Handle this one with care, I ain't trying to drop it, like the prawn.
That fell on the floor, oh wow, see how golden that pastry is, I can't wait to tuck into this
and then look at the ratio of sausage meat to pastry, can't even eat my food in peace.
Let's go in, I already know what to expect with this, hands down always delivers,
the sausage meat is seasoned to perfection and then the pastry which is just surrounding it,
it's buttery, it's flaky, the perfect colour.
Look at the ratio, as I said before, sausage meat to pastry,
I asked for a sausage roll, this is what I mean.
For me, and I've said it probably a couple of times now I believe, in this video so far,
my personal favourite sausage roll in London, which means obviously for me,
is the best, like I said before, the seasonings, the pastry,
the sausage meat itself, it's top tier, another top, top option if you're in Borough Market.
Somehow I've been roped into trying oysters, I'm not a massive fan but you know them ones,
I feel like it's macho, people just lie about liking it, I thought it's the same with oysters.
Okay, here goes the thousandth time of pretending to like oysters,
let's see, trying to convince me that they're lit.
Whoa, you know what, for me, it's a texture thing, I can't get behind that sliminess.
Let me go for this one.
Oh, you know what, I can't do it, I'm convinced people that say they like oysters,
they're lying. I'm heading to a spot next where the cuisine is new to me,
I've never tried this before, Iraqi, Iraqi cuisine, forgive the pronunciations but I've
seen a lot of this online and I'm looking forward to this one. Okay, so I've gone for a mixed kebab,
looks very simple but I can imagine this being crazy, the smells that are coming off of this now,
serious. So I've got a lamb and chicken kebab sitting on a bed of rice, some salad and then
he put garlic, chilli sauce and a sprinkle of sumac on top. As I said before, this is a new
cuisine to me so I'm looking forward to it. So we're going to try the lamb kebab first,
get a bit of the lamb with the rice, let's get a bit of salad as well.
The people were lying, that lamb, from where it was on the grill,
it's kind of created this outer crust but then in the middle it's so juicy.
With the chilli sauce and the garlic sauce, sprinkled sumac on top, it comes together
extremely well. One thing on the lamb though that you need to expect, it's not overly seasoned,
I think it's really about the quality and the freshness of the actual lamb itself. I don't
sense much seasoning goes into this, the magic is in the sauces that are on top. Let's dive
into this chicken next, looks like it's separated into cubes. Wow, this is seasoned a lot better
than the lamb. On top of that, so juicy and then the rice at the bottom, really fluffy.
It's a healthy plate of food and I can tell you for sure, if you're after something hearty,
this is gonna slap. Behind me is a serious gem and not many people know about this one because
it's quite tucked away but every time I come to Baramaka, I have to visit here.
Scallops, prawns, it's a must try and I'm about to put you on. I missed it.
Wow, this is for those who want a lighter bite, there's a lot around here, the food is heavy.
If you want something where you're already full but you just want something light, maybe a stool
where you can just pick around different ones, this is one to stop by. This always hits,
the flavours are on point, charred to perfection and really, really juicy.
Solid man. So next, we've got the scallop with a bit of bacon in there as well. I believe they
doused this in a little bit of garlic butter. Wow, it doesn't get fresher than this. It's just
perfect. The difference between the prawn and the scallop, the prawns are really heavily seasoned
whereas this is really light, they just complement each other nicely. So I'm done with the savoury
bits now, it's on to the sweet treats. Let's end on a sweet note. Thank you very much,
secured the goods. The £8.50 strawberries, so much talk goes on about these. Are they worth it?
They're just chocolate, it's just strawberries. I don't know man, so perfectly looking strawberries,
looking fresh as hell and then good quality Belgian chocolate, you can't really go wrong.
I mean, it is what it is. The chocolate's amazing, the strawberries are extremely fresh,
extremely juicy. £8.50 is steep but they must be doing something right because people can't
stop coming back. This is the perfect way to round off today's Borough Market tour
but we've got one more place that needs to be on your list. This is the last stop of the day,
Brotherhead Bakery and there's only one option for me. Well, there's two but they brought out
this one more recently and I haven't looked back since. So as you walk past this spot,
they're putting on a show for you, fireworks the lot. That is what comes when creating the creme
brulee doughnut. They fill it with cream, top it with sugar and blow torch it to finish and that
results in this caramelised finish. I've had this before when it first came out, I believe.
It's been about a year now to be honest with you. This one here is serious stuff.
Just as I remember, the filling is delicious and then you get that satisfying crunch on top.
Now look at this shard, that shard of glass on top. Let's get a crunch of every bite
but also don't sleep on a doughnut itself. It's extremely fluffy. Yes, it's rich with the
sweetness but that being said, treat yourself and this is a perfect way to end the trip.
Look at that, filled to the brim and that concludes the Borough Market trip. As you can see
throughout the various things I've shown today, there is something for everyone and it's not
just the street food, fresh food side of things. You can also come and grab fresh produce also.
I'm ending on a high with this doughnut, no doubt. If you're in London looking for somewhere to go
with some fantastic food, I suggest you pop by here. I have to admit, the prices are steep so
you have to make sure you bring your readies. In other words, that means lots of money. As always,
like, comment, subscribe. Until next time, peace.
