We're working our way along here and this is what we've just come across.
And I'm just checking the boulders here to see if they use them for a grind. Hey!
Ho, ho, ho! Oh, look! Look, look, look! That's pretty neat. That spearhead,
that's one of the better ones I've seen too. We've got this one here. It still has the wood,
the wood in the mud. Let's take a look inside.
Hey everyone, it's Dave with Rugged Road Explorers. So I am out doing a recon today of a new area.
I've just hiked about a mile and a half to get here and I want to show you what's behind me.
So I finally got up to the canyon edge and this is what we have. I actually got lucky because
I can see here the canyon kind of, there's kind of a runoff here so that may give me a way down.
But right now I'm going to go to the cliff's edge and start scanning the far cliffs and
seeing what we have in the area because I have no idea because it's a new area and you can see,
man, there's nobody. It's beautiful out here. I gotta say, weather's perfect. I wanted to show
you guys this. I spotted some ruins right over there and so I'm walking on the opposite cliff
facing. Check out this right here. So this is leading me to believe there's there's undercuts
underneath this too. I'm just looking to see if they could have made their way up this way.
So we're gonna have to get down there and we'll get on the other side over there
to see what's underneath me. This is the first pictographs I've seen.
It looks, those are painted on, not chipped in. Petroglyphs are chipped in. Pictograph is
painted on like that. I want to point this out. We have the lines of the pictograph up there
and then down here if you look underneath here you can see the stacked rock on that side.
So this was some kind of storage at one time and if we look right here
we can see flint shards and you can see pottery right here, right here. There's more right in there.
So not sure what this is. We're gonna work our way on and uh hold on a minute. What is this?
I know what that is. This is a um where they used to grind their corn in.
Hang on. Look at that and it's broken. It wore through in the middle there
but uh these are like uh portable ones. I've seen them on the big boulders before
but these would be just uh a rock that they use and they could take them from place to place with
them but eventually they would wear through and break just like this one has but uh that's pretty
neat. Well that is super neat. Let's just take a quick peek. Now that now that I found that and
spotted that wow that's awesome. This is uh it's a multi-tone piece of pottery. All right well I'm
excited to keep going. So right behind me was the uh the pictograph and uh now we're coming up on
this doorway right here. It's pretty neat. So that's the kind of the doorway there actually
looks like a little chair there um and the inside of the dwelling there. I'm just checking the front
side of it here. Check it out. There's pottery again down underneath here. Huh. So we're gonna look over here.
Got more pottery here but this is inside and that wood over there is probably where the
was part of the roof structure that's collapsed now but there's another piece of pottery right
there. Given that we found the grinding stone over there I suspect this was a dwelling
um and uh this this rock that's fallen here was probably up at one time. Well you got lots
of pottery here. More here. You can see it all came down fell down from up in there.
Check this out right in front of us you guys. That's beautiful. All right let's keep moving.
This is all collapsed down this way but at one time it would have been a wall up that high
and you can clearly see the doorway through there and then just on the other side of where
those pictographs were. Pretty amazing. So this is the uh first dwelling with the doorway behind me
and then we've got this dwelling here um that we're gonna go check out but just walking
there's so much to see I'm gonna have to slow down and uh take you guys along because there's
so much to discover here I just got to point it all out to you. All right where to start um let's
just start here. We'll start just working our way down a little bit. So we've got some jasper
unworked oh no so this is this is for skinning. So all these are tools and I'm going to point
them out to you. So this is a skinning piece of jasper this is super sharp right here and it fits
right in your hand just like this and you can uh take the meat off the skin and um and clean it up
and then you can use the skins. Let's keep working. Wow I can't believe
here's another piece here's another one this may actually be a spear point um you can kind of see
see that and it's sharp along the edges here and see you can tell it's been worked unfortunately
it's broken off here. Wow another piece this this just looks like to be a broken piece
another piece of worked flint boy they're just everywhere.
Boy I don't know if that's a point or they were just working it. Huh then up here we got gray
pottery boy that's that's uh gray and thick so this is this is some of the first um the first
Fremont um with that standard gray pottery and then here we can see
boy this is almost almost a whole pot right here.
You can see all the pieces this looks like the edge or the lip of the bowl
they're all over here this was probably
so you have that little room there and uh this was probably their main living area
you can see how flat it is um or it was the common area and I'm just checking the boulders here to
see if they use them for grinding. Hey ho ho ho oh look look at look look this is the first
arrowhead I've seen or I found or discovered. Wow that's the first one on one of these sites
so this is a neat site and we haven't even gotten over there yet. All right let's take a look at this
look at that beautiful you can see boy the edges are serrated even man it's sharp that is too neat
huh wow wow well that's that made my day huh and then we've got more pottery over here
wow let's keep uh let's keep looking let's keep our eyes open there's a
underneath here it's a big piece of pottery right there okay enough with the pottery and stuff
let's uh let's see what we got here boy these look to be in pretty good condition too
so you had one one that was here and you had another one here
we've got this one here it still has the wood the wood in the mud and then uh
let's take a look inside you guys are going to see this better than uh
I can because it's shows up pretty dark for me I'll review the tape afterwards
I can kind of see something there not sure what it is though let me know what you think in the
comments pretty neat wow and then we have a whole little complex here this was all mudded up at one
time you can see the mud still here in this wall I'm going to go around the back side because I
want to climb over these walls and uh we'll take a look but let me just do this you can see on this
one you can see the wood uh the wood coming out of the mud right there forming the roof on it
so let's go around this looks like to be some kind of a some kind of working stone
it's amazing those uh they kind of jump out at you when you've been looking at these for a while
there's uh more more dwellings or the remains of them right up there here we got pottery shards
and uh flint shards there you can really see the wall here you can see oh wow there's the opening
there's another one man it's just one after another there's more over here see the roofs
come in they work the back wall there even filling in those uh the natural rock boy this is still
lasted it's it's far enough underneath the shelter that it's been protected you've got
more jasper shards here let me back up so you can really see the workmanship in this
because the natural rock has formed a ceiling and then they brought it out a little bit more
you can see what the wood you can see I wonder if this was closed up at one time and then we have
another one here and then where I'm standing was a room at one time too you can see this was all
sealed with mud so I wonder if where I'm standing was the living quarters and these
little areas were where they stored their food and maybe water I don't know let me know what
you guys think always love hearing your uh hearing your comments and uh your input this looks like uh
that it looks like a piece of pottery attached so I wonder if they used um broken pottery as
part of the binding in that uh mud but this was most likely a granary and the reason I say that
is because we have some of these ancient corn cobs and yes these have been dated in this area
about 800 years old maybe a little bit older and um there's no corn on them it's just the
cob and they will last in this environment wow so this was this was covered at one time
you can see this was part of the roof there's still mud here and it's all collapsed or washed
away just I'm really impressed with the workmanship and I mean it's still standing
after what 800,000 years that's what they tell us anyways so it's the Fremont people
I know I get asked that question and I forget to bring it up um that we're in this area
there's a nice piece of pottery all right and we're not even done uh let's keep going
so we have a big wall here piece of pottery here lots of pottery down here just a ton
and then here we go you can see the rock here where it's been worked for grinding
and then you see these long slants they use those to sharpen uh sticks and um shafts
so this looks like it's been pecked out look you see the peck marks here and then
it looks like they did a a line here all the way down all the way down it's all pecked out
and then here too so I wonder what they were doing there and then maybe they had a bowl down here
and whatever it was would uh run down there that was probably much deeper at one time it's been
weathered over time and then uh it would catch whatever we have another I'm not gonna I'm not
gonna go over this you can see the mud was that bound it all together at one time we'll just have
to look at this one like this like I'll have to review the film to see what's in there but uh
you can really see from this angle how these have been pecked out of the rock and then these
have just been worn down but we're not done yet and again man boy the amount of pottery shards
here pretty amazing you've got this nice wall built still standing amazing got this one
looks like you've got a piece of
work jasper spear point maybe yeah sure it looks like it look at that look at that
I'm gonna have to get a picture of that here you have one last room there may be more around the
corner but uh this one looks like it's more exposed to the weather you can kind of see
where the rain has gotten in there but it's still holding up pretty good let's walk around
that's pretty neat that spearhead that's one of the better ones I've seen too
and this is what you expect to see so right behind me here is the dwelling complex
I've just been walking around uh taking one last look around and uh I just uh walked up on top of
this rock here that you can see behind me and uh took a look down here and uh let me show you what
I've found uh so let's just start off here again we've got some pottery some jasper shards here we
have a stone uh to use to work the grain got a beautiful piece of pottery there then we have more
of these uh stones and then here you can see how the whole thing works together
uh most of these on the other side that we found were broken and this one is too but you can see
um how it's rounded there and then this stone actually goes with it I can't believe it's here
um and they would they would grind it just like that pretty amazing just came along this cliff
face just checking it out we found a couple of little spots with pottery and things and I just
came to this place and you can see the wall that's built up up there um and I want to show you this
so how do you get up there you ask well you got Moki steps right here check them out see them here
here here here here and then on up I don't think it would be a problem getting up there the problem
coming back down uh at least for me wow so I hope you guys enjoyed this explore it was pretty
pretty awesome we found uh so many artifacts and so many intact uh uh of the little dwellings
that were here and um and we found the petroglyphs so um yeah it's uh it was a great
day and we were just planning on doing a recon and uh spotted this and decided to just go ahead
and knock it out and uh bring it to you guys so hey I sure hope you enjoyed it if you do give it
a thumbs up let me know that you did and uh leave a comment even if it's just you know what country
you're from or what state you're from or where you live um I'd love to to see where my viewers
are watching from and again I appreciate everything you guys do to support the channel
thanks and have a good day
