Hi everyone, in this video we're taking a look at essential teaware for enjoying whole leaf tea.
If you're interested in premium tea, make sure to subscribe to our channel for new videos like this
one each week. With so many different kinds of teaware available, transitioning from teabags
to whole leaf tea can feel a bit overwhelming. But preparing loose leaf tea is simple and always
results in better taste. Today we'll explore several options for getting the most out of
From streamlined modern techniques to our favorite traditional method.
The first option is also the simplest, our tea sachets. Made from premium plant-based fiber,
our tea sachets give you all the convenience of a traditional teabag. But unlike pre-packed
teabags, which often contain low-grade tea, our fillable tea sachets allow you to enjoy premium
whole leaves. Simply add your tea leaves to a sachet and infuse in a mug, thermos, or teapot.
Since they're disposable, biodegradable, and so compact, these are one of our favorite options
for enjoying tea away from home. We like to pack a few with our favorite teas to take on our travels
or when dining out. The second option is an infuser, like our double wall glass thermos,
glass infuser cup, or blossom glass teapot. Each of these vessels include a built-in brewing basket
for ease of use. Simply add your leaves to the basket and fill with hot water. When your tea
is done brewing, remove the basket just like a teabag. Our thermos offers the added convenience
of a leak-proof lid so you can take your tea on the go. The third option is a competition brewing
set. Used by industry professionals to judge tea quality, the competition set is also a very easy
to use and streamlined option for enjoying tea at home or at work. The competition brewing set
includes a brewing cup and a drinking bowl. Simply add your loose leaf tea to the brewing cup and
fill with hot water. When the tea is done infusing, decant into the drinking bowl to stop the infusion,
then sip and enjoy. The competition set offers all the benefits of a complete traditional tea
set in a more compact package, so we often bring this with us on our sourcing trips.
Finally, our favorite way to prepare any whole leaf tea is the traditional Chinese Gong Fu method.
Although it is not as portable, there is no question that this method produces the best flavor.
While brewing tea in a large western-style teapot is akin to drip coffee, the Gong Fu method is like
pour over coffee or espresso, offering more control for a better taste. At the most basic,
the Gong Fu method requires three pieces, a gaiwan or small teapot, a server, and tasting cups. If
you're just starting out, we recommend choosing a porcelain gaiwan since these are the most versatile.
Like the competition set, you simply add the loose leaf tea directly to the gaiwan and fill with hot
water. Once the tea is ready, decant into the server to stop the infusion, then serve into the
tasting cups to enjoy. The Gong Fu method provides an opportunity to enjoy all the nuance of your
favorite teas and is also a great self-care ritual. We have separate videos that explore each of these
options in more depth. To learn more about premium tea and teaware, visit redblossomtea.com.
