Famous Fossils

Hi, I'm Susan. And I'm Josh. Welcome to Fun Science Demos. In another video, we showed you a bunch of fossils and how they form. In this video, we're going to show you two of the coolest fossils that science has ever found. Both of these are exact copies of real fossils. Take a look at this fossil. Scientists found this fossil in a sedimentary rock layer that they dated to about 150 million years old. So they figured that this fossil also had to be about 150 million years old. This is called a pterosaur. Pterosaur was a flying reptile that did not have any feathers. Instead, it had wings like a bat. Could you imagine that flying around your house? Now we're going to look at one of the most famous fossils ever found. It's about 150 million years old also, and it's called Archaeopteryx. We've only found seven fossils of Archaeopteryx, but there are some things about it that make it really special. So what makes it so special? It has feathers on its wings here, and on its tail like a bird. But it has claws like a dinosaur, and teeth like a dinosaur, and even a long bony tail like a dinosaur. Isn't that cool? Any time a fossil is found, scientists always wonder, what does it look like? So we think that Archaeopteryx looks like this.
