VIENNA Join me in exploring Vienna's Christmas markets and sampling some of Austria's best street food during the festive season.
Vienna Christmas Market (Rathausplatz) I began my Christmas food tour at the famous Vienna Christmas Market in Rathausplatz, one of the city's largest and most popular. Here, I discovered a wide variety of traditional Austrian foods and drinks and tasted local bratwurst sausages for the first time, along with other classic winter specialties.
Altwiener Christkindlmarkt Christmas Market Next, I visited the Altwiener Christkindlmarkt, renowned for its cozy, old-fashioned Viennese atmosphere. I browsed the food and drinks on offer, from mulled wine (Glühwein) to delicious local dishes like smoked sausages and roasted potatoes.
Am Hof Christmas Market (Weihnachtsmarkt am Hof) Afterward, I visited the Am Hof Christmas Market, which offered an even more extensive culinary selection. You'll find raclette cheese and potato bread, classic Würstelstand sausages, warm soups served in bread bowls, and tempting desserts.
ART Advent Christmas Market I concluded my Vienna Christmas tour at Karlsplatz at the ART Advent Christmas Market. This market was brimming with handcrafted goods, but also offered plenty of winter hot drinks and delicious food to enjoy while soaking up the festive atmosphere.

We are in Vienna, one of the most iconic cities in Europe.
And this city is famous for its numerous Christmas markets in winter time.
And their tradition is quite long.
They started with the first Christmas market in the 13th century and they never stopped.
Here today we are starting at Rathausplatz at the famous Vienna Christmas market.
We're gonna check out what kind of interesting foods, drinks and activities they have here
and then we're gonna jump to some other local Christmas markets as well.
But let's start here first.
You're instantly greeted here by Punsch und Gluchwein stand just behind me.
The stand offering some punch and mulled wine to get warm and then you can continue with
the foods onward.
Behind me is Maus Bakerei or the baker Maus and here they offer some sweet fried dough
balls and also fried potato pancakes.
Nice and greasy potato pancakes and then topped with some sour cream, shredded cheese and
some fried bacon on top.
Here we have some amazing looking marzipan stand and these guys here have a huge variety
of marzipan kugel or chocolate marzipan balls with many different flavors and colors.
Everything here in Vienna is biologish so far.
Everything is organic.
Let's check out if they have something non-organic.
This stand here looks amazing.
All these pastries are topped with different types of chocolate and they are huge, they
are massive and of course there is a bio sign so everything is biologish, everything is
organic.
I don't know how they manage to make everything organic but this is how it is here.
Anyway, I was hoping to start my day with some savory foods so let's chase some savory
foods first.
I think I found my first place where to start.
The smells are quite quite incredible.
This place is quite busy.
They're doing all these Kaiserkrainer, Wurstel and bratwurst sausages here and there's also
a queue so I'll queue up and get my first taste of this Christmas market.
So I'm starting with my first food of the day and it's this delicious looking bratwurst,
the famous local Austrian white sausage and it's also stuffed inside this bread roll with
some mustard.
Let's go.
Very delicious bratwurst.
It has this ham-like texture.
It's nice, chunky, very meaty, very juicy, perfectly grilled, the skin is dissolving
once you bite to it.
Let's try it with some bread and mustard.
Nothing beats that first bite with mustard and bread together.
The sausage is really premium.
It's so delicious.
Then the mustard, so tasty.
The bread is not hot as the sausage but they don't mind because the sausage is really really
good.
They also have a langos stand here and the langos is bio as well.
It's organic.
Anyway, I really enjoyed that bratwurst.
That was a really good start of this morning but we're going to continue to our next Christmas
market here in Vienna to experience some more local delicious foods.
Let's go.
Our next stop is Altwiener Christkindmarkt and this is a very small local Christmas market
not far away from the big one, the Vienna Christmas market and here we're going to explore
some more local foods.
There were some nice smelling chestnuts just at the beginning here but let's go inside
and see what else they got.
The stand behind me offers some very delicious looking fruit and chocolate skewers.
They have fruit mix, they have banana, they have also traditional Zuckerapfel and this
is the sugar coated apple.
This is very very old dessert but then it's accompanied with all these new skewers with
these chocolate bits and fruits.
Some very delicious looking cheese here, the huge wheels and you can also try some.
I think this one has some pepper in it.
Nice, a bit sweet, also a little bit spicy from this pepper.
Behind me is a stand with a very interesting food.
These are some open faced sandwiches and this is a popular Viennese pub food and they have
spread on top and some of them are topped with pork lard, some of them with pate, some
of them with slices of sausage but the one with the pork lard spread on top reminds me
of my childhood when I was, I don't know, 7 or 8.
This is something that we would eat in winter time.
This stand offers here another local staple, Schaum rollen and also these donut like deep
fried balls.
These are some delicious desserts.
And just beside it this stand offers some enormous sized Brezel, another local staple
and these are stuffed with anything from apple, Nutella or pizza stuffing.
Here we have some very interesting local chocolate as well.
Definitely one of the most interesting food stands around here is this one offering any
and every type of local cured and smoked sausage, different types of bacon, then different types
of cheese, then some gingerbread style biscuits, then kletz and broth, some sweet bread and
also some other very delicious looking and smelling foods.
Just over there is another signature dessert of Vienna, Kaiserschmarrn and they start from
8 euros and then the price goes up depending what you add to the Kaiserschmarrn.
Anyway, quite recognizable foods so far at all these markets.
I had to try the local Gluchweinroth, the red mulled wine to get warm and then we're
gonna go to the next Christmas market, Amhof, which is really nearby, just in a walking
distance.
Cheers!
Very hot, very nice and tasty.
Prost!
When it's cold like this outside, this hot wine is really a lifesaver.
Very delicious and very pleasant.
Anyway, so cup is 5.50 but you also need to pay for the rental of this cup, which is 5
euros, which will be returned to you once you return the cup.
Prost!
So, the Altwiener Christmas market that we just visited is over there and Amhof is in
front of me, so this is just maybe two minutes of walking distance.
Here we are at the Amhof Christmas market, which was really, really near and again greeted
by some roast chestnuts, but also with some caramel and sugar-coated nuts.
There are walnuts, almonds, other types of nuts, sugar-coated, nice and delicious.
But again, the prices here are not naive, 5 euros something for 100 grams.
Let's go around and explore some more foods.
Finally, something a little bit different and quite interesting, this place serves nice
hot homemade soup in a loaf of bread.
Christmas markets around Vienna I can describe so far as plenty of alcohol and then some
food.
This is pretty much the ratio of the things offered.
This stand here offers raclette and this is the famous local melted cheese, which is spread
on a slice of bread.
But it can also be spread on these beautiful looking roast potatoes and this is just what
I ordered, these young roast potatoes with plenty of cheese on top and also some bacon.
This doesn't come cheap, this costs 13 euros, but it really smelled so good and it looked
so good, so I had to go for it.
I managed to get everything, cheese, bacon and also this potato.
This is some seriously delicious food, very nice and crunchy skin on this potato, nice
and soft inside, perfectly roasted.
Then this very flavorful cheese, bacon, an amazing combination.
This is a proper Austrian street comfort food.
That was some great food over there.
They really know what they're doing with those potatoes and then cheese and bacon as well.
Really amazing.
Let's check out some more food stands around here.
Here we have a traditional sweet bread buchtel and it can be served with different sweet
stuffing or topping.
There are plenty of sweet options around here, but of course the biggest crowd will bring
a wurstel stand, the stand selling some delicious Kasekreiner and bratwurst sausages.
We had ours this morning, but let's also check these options here.
Sliced on a plate with a semf.
That food stand over there is absolutely hectic.
It's crazy how many customers they have, but they also work fast.
My order came quite quickly and I got Kasekreiner.
This morning I tried bratwurst, but now it was time to try this delicious cheese infused
Austrian sausage.
Smoky and delicious.
And then here we can see all these cheese bits inside and what you need for this perfect
combination is a pile of mustard and some bread.
A delicious Austrian street food.
I also got something sweet from my Slovak friends here at the table.
Amhof Christmas market was definitely better than I expected.
Prices are dependable where you buy and where you eat.
Some are okay, some are a bit more expensive.
Some places you need to pay only cash, some accept cards.
So it depends on the vendor, on the food stall.
But anyway, quite a good experience and I think we have one more Christmas market here
to visit today.
So let's continue.
Last Christmas market to visit here in Vienna today is at Karlsplatz.
And this area here offers also variety of food stalls, souvenir stalls.
But let's go around and check this place as well.
This place is as busy as it gets.
Crowd of people waiting their turn to get their hot drinks.
But then many more in these designated areas on left and right already enjoying their drinks.
On Google Maps you can find this place as Art Advent Christmas market and no wonder
because it's full of arts and crafts.
This place behind me offers the best combination so far.
Punsch und Krebs.
So punch and krebs.
And what better combination than getting some nice alcoholic drink and then afterwards going
for a Nutella stuffed krebs.
These guys are making these krebs with so much ease, with so much skill.
And then when I heard them speaking French everything was clear to me.
And all of them are French, so this is a French run, French owned business.
So I think I will have to check them out.
So these are original French krebs?
Yes.
Ah, bravo.
Yes, thank you.
Always someone else is copying you.
But...
Ein krebs avec chocolat, s'il vous plait.
Ok, thank you.
Not exactly your typical Austrian food, but when I saw them flipping these krebs, these
pancakes, and then I heard them speaking French, and then I also saw that nobody else makes
them like them, I had to go for it.
I got one stuffed with chocolate.
Let's go.
This was definitely a good choice.
You can feel the taste of that butter she put on top.
Then the krebs itself is pleasantly chewy, but also soft.
There's that amazing texture to it.
And then this chocolate spread.
This is incredible.
Insanely good French pancake.
An absolute perfection and after each bite you just want more.
This was a perfect ending to this very busy and interesting day here in Vienna, visiting
all these different Christmas markets and enjoying all these tasty Austrian foods and
drinks, finishing it off with some perfect French dessert as well, and I hope you got
some insight into these Christmas markets here, about the foods offered, drinks and
also the prices.
With this, we end this video as well.
I hope you enjoyed it and until the next time, all the best.
