The Celtics defeated the Pacers, 140-122 tonight in Indiana. Jaylen Brown contributed a team-high 30 points to go with 4 steals 4 assists and 3 rebounds, with Payton Pritchard of the Celtics adding an additional 29 points (10-17 FG, 3-8 3P) and 9 rebounds in the game. Andrew Nembhard finished with a team-high 18 points along with 8 assists for the Pacers in the losing effort. The Celtics improve their record to 19-11 with the win, while the Pacers fall to 6-25 for the season.
Yeah, those guys, Obi Toppa, they've got some great outfits.
We just would like to see him in the blue and gold.
No question.
Huff and Keita.
And the Pacers have the ball to get underway on a Friday night,
night after Christmas, for the Pacers and the Celtics.
Let's see if Benedict Matherin can get it going.
Dimhart in the corner for three, and the Pacers have the early
lead.
Pritchard had 11 points and five assists on Monday.
They lob it in.
Keita puts it down.
Tonight, his 28th start.
He is really active for them in the post.
Siakam to the basket, lays it in.
And the Pacers' leading scorer is on the board, averaging 23
and a half.
White for three, it's short.
Keita, the offensive rebound, out to Walsh, who hits the three.
Dimhart chasing Brown, and it's off the front of the rim.
Huff, the rebound.
Yeah, he challenged the shot enough that Brown couldn't get
a free look.
Matherin for three.
And the Pacers on the run again.
Matherin had the ball tipped away.
Yeah, White was able to get behind him and tipped it away.
And now Jalen Brown to the basket.
And he's got, he's 19 years old, which is just incredible, but
he's been playing pro basketball since he's like nine, as Dimhart
knocks down another three.
But you were right.
It was his energy.
Players tend to stand.
And I thought Jackson did a nice job.
He just couldn't complete it.
That's two.
Oh, he's out of bounds.
Oh, my.
You were going to say that's too high, and I agree with you, Todd.
I think we're using just different terms for the same thing.
Dimhart for a third three.
Exactly what we saw, a steal.
Cookies.
Nice job there.
That's Dimhart too.
He has taken the place of Quinton Jackson.
Gonzalez, the first bench player for Boston, as Brown has his
second field goal.
First eight to 10 seconds, getting the shot up.
You can see that's why the ball, there's almost a shot being
taken almost immediately.
And Jay Huff on a nice dime from Andrew Dimhart, and Pritchard
has it the other way for Boston.
It's blocked by Huff.
And now Thompson for three.
Yeah, let it go.
And one concern for him has been that tip of his right thumb, a fracture.
You can see he's got it taped up as Mathren goes inside, fades, and scores.
And he missed it, Brown.
And here comes Thompson.
Mathren, a pull up three.
But you see, he wasn't tentative.
He was pulling up to shoot that three.
He had a man open in the corner where he probably should have passed the ball.
And an 18 point halftime lead.
Brown with the shot clock at six.
Hauser is in for the first time and his rainbow three is good.
When this was really the unit that got them back in the game the other night.
Now Hauser, his hit back-to-back threes.
Of the Indy Star saying, getting the pace we want to play fast and random.
If we buy into that, the shots will fall as we get more comfortable with that pace.
TJ's comfortable with that pace as well.
Extra pass.
Thompson is going to drive.
Right there.
Tony Bradley.
That's what you said, Quinn.
He's a rebounder.
And the rebounder behind that was Bradley.
Now Pritchard against Thompson.
Step back three by Peyton.
Pritchard is good.
Simons, the former Portland Trailblazer, knocked away by McConnell.
McConnell goes inside, tosses it in.
Really sweet touch on that one.
White is back in.
He will launch and leave it short.
But Garza right there for the rebound.
They ran that pick and roll up high.
Siakam gets it from McConnell.
Rebound tipped out.
But Bradley, he was being blocked out.
McConnell tees up three and got it.
Second chance, Indiana.
White cut off by Walker.
By Luca Garza, the former Iowa Hawkeye.
Not a two-way player.
McConnell inside.
Finds Siakam.
And the drive and the basket.
The Pacers have a season high 39 first quarter points.
Shots by the Pacers in the first quarter.
One of the challenges you have when you, you know, you're struggling offensively,
you don't get enough shots.
But if you've got 27, that's plenty.
Hauser got a look and is able to...
Yeah, Hauser, that's, that's what he does with his team.
He's a three-point shooter.
Got a mismatch.
And he hits a deep three.
And they make, on average, nearly 16.
That's number one in the NBA.
White threw it away, but picked off by Shireman.
And the three by Simons is good.
You got Potter in the game and it's hard to play fast with Potter
because he doesn't know where he's supposed to be.
Walker for three.
Good.
He's playing him very physically and it's working.
White bounces now to Brown.
Now you got to help.
There's a difference in, you can see the difference in how Jaylen
Brown reacts when he's got...
They try to lob it over the top.
They do get it to Brown.
Brown doubled down by Potter and Nembhard.
Shireman, he hits a long three.
Chris, they're third and east.
They're third and east.
18 and 11.
Matherin hits.
Yeah, without their best player, they're third and east.
So they obviously made some really good decisions.
And quite frankly, our friend Brad deserved a lot of credit for it.
Pritchard, step back three.
Well, you can't give him time to load like that.
No, and that's what you get if you're not careful.
White, dotted line, and the three point lead for Boston.
To get it to Huff, because the pass was going to be too long if he didn't walk it.
Down inside.
It's a five point Boston advantage.
Huff for three.
And rebounded by Shireman, who's getting minutes with some of the starters.
They're attacking.
Cutting Matherin.
Good play.
Really good, quick pass right back to Huff after he had passed it.
We have a whole second half left.
Pritchard.
Nice job.
He pushed off at the end.
He does it every time.
He pushes off with his...
As we talked about, those little two point shots.
Those two point shots, exactly.
Deep three by White.
Yeah, off an offensive...
Not an offensive, the offensive rebound.
And a 13 point lead.
A quick change by the Celtics after the Pacers led by 15.
Tipped up and in by Matherin.
But it was a good play because Jade had the position.
Pritchard again.
Held there by Siakam, bobbled momentarily by Brown.
Brown's handles have gotten so much better as his career has.
It really has, because I tell you what else, he's a better passer.
But what he's really looking to do here is find a way...
Oh, great pass.
Great pass.
A look off.
Pritchard.
Cut off.
Kada, shot clock down to seven.
And Pritchard is alone.
Pacers have trimmed the margin to 10.
He did a crossover and a bop.
Celtics had 28 first quarter points, 45 here in the second.
Nembhard inside, dotted line, got it.
34 first half points.
He got clear.
Good defense by Ethan Thompson.
Better shot.
He got clear.
By Brown.
Because the pass was going...
That's another thing that I think people have underestimated in terms of the way the game is played.
It's how you pass the ball.
There's another Boston turnover.
Their second to start the quarter.
I like it.
They're up on these screens.
Brown has an eight to shoot.
Kada is down.
But you see him being guarded.
This one here is Siakam is guarding.
Nembhard circles.
Tried to draw the foul.
Didn't happen.
But he got the left-hander to go in.
Andrew Nembhard has 13.
Average is 17 on the year.
That's the number three score for the Pacers.
And Jalen Brown.
Pick up by Jackson.
Again, no Isaiah Jackson.
He's out for the second straight game with a concussion.
And that's a 4-3 for Nembhard.
Pritchard.
Walsh.
White for three.
Boom.
Very good all-around player.
Coming in tonight, 94-3s already made by Derek White.
Again, this is a team that makes the most threes.
82-71, Celtics by 11.
Play three and a half minutes of steal.
Matherin has it.
Pacers have a three-on-one.
Jackson lays it in.
Shot clock at eight.
White picks it up.
Cross-court.
Brown.
Fading and hitting.
Pretty close to the shot that he made.
Stadium be ready to help.
This is, he likes this side of the floor.
He might've been, that might've been after his rookie year
when we went to South Africa.
Yes, sir.
It was a good time with him in South Africa.
And Tony Bradley got the basket.
Um, and so he's somebody, as a matter of fact, I know one
who's, believe it or not, one of his mentors is Isaiah Thomas.
Well, I had to look down.
He was drafted in, we were there together in 2015 and 2017.
So it was 2017 after his first season, after his rookie year.
Garza with the three.
Here's Walker again, in and out, no good.
Micah Potter is the 26th player.
And we're not even to January 1.
Walker for his third.
Jalen Brown against Thompson.
At that point, couldn't play him any better defensively.
Nembhard had it batted away by Brown and Brown got the steal.
Garza got the basket.
He had a game this year where he had seven of them and he scored
all 21 of his points from three point range.
Let it go, you gotta let it go.
Undrafted back in 2021.
Has played his entire career in Boston.
Potter fought for the rebound and paces fall down.
Well, he sure got the fan base riled up.
And those two are guarding each other now, at least Walsh is guarding.
And McConnell scores.
McConnell looking again.
He's going to put his head down on the baseline.
Go inside, reverse layup.
He got it again.
Got some real intent in TJ now.
Regular season meeting between the Pacers and the Celtics.
So number 200 will come here as a long three by Jairus Walker.
Good closeout by Thompson.
Step through by White.
17 for Derrick.
Playing this league.
Yeah, just turned 21.
He's had 27 points in his last three games.
He had 18 in his first nine as Simons after a five and seven start.
Siakam could not get it, but tipped his own miss in.
And they take that away from you.
And all, all the NBA players, the great players manage to get
something done regardless.
Terrific spinning shot.
Had a back injury that kept him out of training camp.
Missed the first 24 games due to injury as Brown hits a three.
That's a step back three.
Yesterday.
The Lakers, Lakers didn't have much of a chance.
And Jalen Brown has his eighth straight.
Now Furphy in the corner for three.
Got it.
Mishandled momentarily and Potter with a left hand.
Will win its fourth straight nine of 11 and 14 out of 18 as Pritchard has
his ninth 20 point game of the year.
13 for Garza.
Make it 15 for Garza.
Jones, Thompson, Potter, Furphy.
And Cam Jones with two more.
Went after the slow start.
Boston has been really good as Furphy dunks.
They were five and seven at mid-November.
Pacers got off to a great start.
A season high 39 first quarter points.
And that's going to do it.
Indiana's going to dribble out the clock and that will be the end of the night.
The Boston Celtics will move to 19 and 11, four straight wins, nine of 11 and
14 and four over the last 18 games.
Saddle up.
You got to go to go to Miami.
That's, that's all this is.
This game is over.
Let's go to Miami.
Get a W.
Wrap things up when we come back.
Celtics win it 140-122.
