The Jonas Brothers talk about their movie A Very Jonas Christmas Movie and confirm Will Ferrell will appear in the movie before Scott Kelly joins their interview to talk about his résumé going viral at one of their concerts.
Welcome back to the show.
We love you.
There's a lot I want to talk to you about.
First, I want to say you have a Christmas movie
coming out tomorrow.
Disney Plus, Hulu. Congratulations.
Tell me, what was Christmas like growing up
in the Jonas family?
There was a lot of time spent
picking out ornaments from our father.
He liked to do one by one.
And there's a story that involved every ornament.
That's in the movie, by the way.
It is in the movie as well. It's a true story.
And most of the time, these were...
All made up.
Made up. Made up stories.
Oh, is that right?
Our dad would be like,
that trip to New Zealand
was so lovely with your mother.
There was never a trip to New Zealand.
You could name it.
Just creative.
But there was a special memory.
Our parents couldn't...
Our dad couldn't afford Christmas ornaments
their first Christmas together,
so he bought these apple ornaments.
So every year, he does have this beautiful thing
where he pulls up these apple ornaments
for our mom to remember
their first Christmas together.
It's quite beautiful.
Very beautiful.
I love that.
You put out Christmas music before.
We put out a Christmas single last year.
It went number one.
No big deal.
It went number one.
No big deal.
Come on!
That was the best.
Thank you for doing that.
But I didn't realize this, though.
Nick, you kind of got your start
making holiday songs.
I did.
Yes, I was doing a Broadway show
here in the city.
At the time, I was doing
Beauty and the Beast.
Played Chip the Teacup.
Hey!
And each year, the Broadway community
puts together a benefit CD
for Equity Fights AIDS.
And my dad and I had started writing songs
in the car ride to and from Wyckoff, New Jersey,
where we grew up and lived at the time
and going into the city.
And so he got the great idea,
thank you, Dad,
to ask if I could do an original song
as the composition for Beauty and the Beast,
the show,
for this benefit CD.
And they said yes.
So, you know, I recorded the song.
I was nine years old.
And then our family chiropractor
basically was like,
I've got this client of mine who works,
you know...
Dr. Wallony.
Shout out, Dr. Wallony.
He's like, this guy,
he works at Sony Music Group.
Is it okay if I play him a song?
And my dad was like,
yeah, sure.
You know, it could be anybody
in the building.
Turned out to be one of the top dogs
at Sony Music Group at the time
who brought me in and signed me
when I was 10 years old
because of that Christmas song.
That's the craziest story.
Anything can happen at Christmas.
Anything can happen.
I wonder what it would be like.
It is like a bad plot
for a Christmas movie.
I actually like this.
This could be a sequel.
You could play the chiropractor.
Oh, my gosh.
I could play the nine-year-old.
The nine-year-old chiropractor.
Yeah.
I wonder what it would be like
to hear you sing at nine years old.
Oh, wait.
We actually found...
You have it, don't you?
We're friends with the fam.
We have hookups.
Here's nine-year-old Nick Jonas
singing his original Christmas song.
And together we'll sing.
Oh, my gosh.
That is fantastic right there.
My voice was just
a touch higher back then.
A little bit higher.
Yeah, a little bit higher then.
We get to hear everyone
sing in this movie,
including you, Kevin.
Yeah.
Good job.
Kevin, this is a big deal.
You're going to be releasing
your debut solo song,
Changing.
It comes out next week.
I can't believe it.
Finally.
I can't believe it.
But what made you do it now?
You've been in the band
since it started.
It's about finding
the right song.
Really?
You know, a really good friend
of mine, Jason Evigan,
I wrote him in February.
I was like,
hey, do you have any songs
that you might feel
could work for me personally?
He responded to me,
literally responded
to the message in June
with this song.
Wow.
So it was about timing, I guess.
It was about timing, yeah.
And I heard the song
and I felt like, gosh,
this feels like something
I have already lived in
and it's mine.
I don't know,
it felt organic to me.
You crushed it.
Thank you.
You gave a sneak peek.
You played it at it.
I've been playing on tour.
It's been great.
I mean, were you nervous
when you were performing?
You know,
like yourself coming out
at Yankee Stadium,
just being thrown
into the fire
to sing in front of a,
it's kind of a,
you kind of go,
got to go big or go home.
So I did it at Fenway
and I think...
People loved it.
Congratulations.
It comes out next week.
Check out the Kevin Jonas
single next week.
How do we set up
a very Jonas Christmas movie?
Well, there's a lot
of real chaotic shenanigans
in the film.
Basically,
the plot of the movie
is that we finish our tour
over in Europe
and we cannot get home
for Christmas
because, you know,
because a sort of
magical Christmas spell
has been cast on us
by a person
that Joe meets.
The first time
that's ever happened.
The first time
that's ever happened.
Joe meets at a bar
that may or may not
be Santa Claus.
So this is one
of the crazy chaotic moments
in the movie
of us trying to get home.
And it includes
some great cameos
that we'll say
in this film
and one very great,
I'd say,
in one of the best
Christmas movies
of all time
makes a cameo.
Can we see it?
I think we can
because it comes out
in like an hour
and people are gonna know.
So in an hour,
you'll know.
The King of Christmas.
The one and only.
Will Ferrell.
Will Ferrell is in it.
He makes a cameo.
He's so funny.
It's a great way
to start the film.
He's the best.
Alright,
it's our Jorts co-star.
It's our Jorts co-star.
Exactly.
It's a Jorts reunion.
Yeah, it's fantastic.
I did a cameo
in he and Reese Witherspoon's
movie,
Cordially Invited,
last year.
Yeah.
And when we were talking
about who could possibly
set the stage
for the tone
of this movie
and the feel,
there was one person
that came to mind
and it was obviously
Will Ferrell.
We all thought
there's no chance
he'll actually do it.
So we reached out
and he said,
yeah, I'll be there
and I'll bring my family.
They'll be in it too
and it's just incredible.
He's the greatest.
He's the greatest
and it's so funny
and it works perfectly.
I want to show everyone
a clip.
Here are Jonas Brothers
in a very Jonas Christmas movie.
Take a look.
Oh my God.
Do you think I'm gonna
starve to death out here?
No.
I think you're gonna
freeze to death
and Joe and I
will be forced to eat you
to survive.
Oh my God.
Truck.
Should we hitchhike?
Are you crazy?
I saw this list
that said hitchhiking
is the sixth most likely
way people get killed.
I also saw this other list
that said we're the second
most punchable band.
Put those lists together
and whoever's driving
that truck's gonna
punch us to death.
No.
Stop!
No.
Nick, what are you doing?
Getting us home.
Yeah!
Come on!
Get us home, Nick.
Get us home.
That's what I'm talking about.
Yeah.
I just want to say
before you go,
in addition to this,
you're also on tour
right now.
Yeah.
One of the best concerts
I've ever seen.
The most talented
people on earth
right here.
But something
went viral
this last week.
I don't know
if you saw this.
Someone was...
Can we explain
what's going on here, Joe?
Oh.
Yes.
Somebody was getting
their resume read
at a Jonas Brothers concert.
Somebody zoomed in
and some guy named
Scott Kelly...
Have you seen this?
...was getting
his resume reviewed
and it went quite viral.
So one fan was just...
Yeah.
One fan was just...
50 million views on it.
It's insane.
Filming.
And then they're just
having to see
someone was scrolling
on their phone
and looking at a resume.
Yeah.
Did he get the job?
The world needs to know.
Scott Kelly,
if you're out there,
Scott Kelly is up
on top here.
Nobody can find this guy.
Yeah.
Uh, well,
we wanted to help,
so I'm not kidding.
No way.
We did some digging.
I'm not joking, by the way.
This is serious.
The real Scott Kelly
is here.
Everyone, please welcome
Scott Kelly.
We found him.
Wow.
It's a Jonas Brothers.
Hey.
That's...
That's Scott Kelly.
Scott.
Oh.
Have a seat.
Nice to meet you.
Pleasure.
Good to meet you.
I know this is Scott Kelly
because I saw his LinkedIn.
It's definitely him.
Yeah.
Yeah, they found me.
Uh, Scott,
can you explain
what is happening
in your world?
It's been an interesting week.
Okay, good.
All right.
So Monday,
I'm sitting in class
for an MBA program
I'm going through,
and my buddy hits me up
and says,
hey, dude,
you're going famous on TikTok.
I'm like,
I don't even have a TikTok.
So he sends me
this blurry screenshot.
He's like,
is this your resume?
I'm like,
no, it's not my resume.
Over the next 24 hours,
everything I have
starts blowing up
with messages.
So I actually
download TikTok,
go look at the original video
and go,
yeah, that's me.
He's great.
And it was later confirmed
because the gentleman
who was actually in the video
reached out on Veterans Day
of all days.
That's right.
Yeah.
And it was surprising
because I get this random message
I don't recognize
and I go to open it up
and actually already
had him saved in my contacts.
Turns out he and I
were in the same
infantry battalion
in the U.S. Army
back in 2014
up at Fort Drum.
Oh my God.
Thank you for your service.
Yeah, he later went on
to do some great stuff
with the 75th Ranger Regiment.
I went on to join
Special Forces
and now we find out
we're both in upstate New York
working on the civilian side.
It's a small world.
Isn't that unbelievable
how small?
So then this happens
and I got to ask,
did you get the job?
So,
I never actually applied
for a job.
Yeah, I know.
So,
Brandon's actually,
he's been very successful
in the Special Forces
military career.
He's the president
of a company out there
called Ramir
that do home services
in the Buffalo area
and he's always looking
to bring on veteran talent.
The transition
from being in the military
to being civilian
can be very challenging.
There's a lot
of transferable skills.
There's not a lot
of great bridges
to help you make
that transition.
So,
he actually goes out
of his way
to hire veteran talent
in the area
for his company.
Yeah.
And so,
wasn't looking for a job
but he and I
are going to link up.
He's actually coming
on a podcast
that I host
called At the Water's Edge.
It's a national
security podcast
and we're going to be
talking about how
the veteran community
can do more
to help each other
when we transition
out of service
because it's a rough
ride for most of us.
You have not met
each other.
No.
They have not met
each other.
This is a totally
real thing.
We wanted to surprise
you guys.
I'm like in shock.
Can I share
a real thing?
Yeah, please.
I had never heard
of you before this.
My wife had to tell me.
What are you talking about?
I didn't have
Disney Channel
growing up.
I didn't know.
It transcended
Disney Channel.
Actually,
they come all the way
back to Disney Plus.
Okay, there you go.
It's okay.
Words
is happening.
I'm huge fans now.
Thank you, man.
Love you guys.
We love you,
Scott Kelly.
Yes, we do.
Scott Kelly
for the win.
I'm happy
that you're here.
In fact,
we want to even
help out even more.
This is a QR code
to your LinkedIn
profile.
You don't need
a job,
but in case you need
Scott Kelly
for anything,
you can link to him
right here.
Scott,
thank you for being here.
I appreciate this.
Thank you so much.
The Jonas Brothers,
Scott Kelly.
Thank you for your service.
Scott Kelly!
