Brian & Gary tour one of Brian's latest creations - an exotic modern desert home in the greater Palm Springs area with amazing features you won't see anywhere else. With an edgy modern design, the balance of form and function maximizes the jaw dropping views from all angles while affording the epitome of modern living. The structure is a true work of art and one you don't want to miss.
We kick off with this uber-modern desert home in Rancho Mirage.
Let me see if some of the design elements can give me some clue on who the designer
might be.
Okay, this is a contemporary house, beautiful clean lines, wonderful use of water.
This seems like this is a Brian Foster home.
Hello.
Good to see you.
Good to see you, Brian.
Good to see you.
Well, this has just got your stamp all over it, and I just love your design.
Thank you.
So, what were you thinking here?
I mean, we haven't even gone into the house yet, and I'm impressed.
I wanted to make this area just be so unique with the water, have these cantilevered overhangs,
and it just feels like you're in this little island by itself, looking out at the views,
and it's just got such an amazing feel here to have this wide open courtyard like this.
So, this is your study, right?
Yeah.
So, if someone could actually take these glass walls away.
Yes.
And they're right by the water.
I mean, just beautiful design principles here.
It has a great feel.
When we get inside, we'll have you sit there and look out.
You'll see exactly what I mean.
Well, can we jump over and do it right now?
Of course.
We can swim.
Okay.
Let me give it a crack.
Okay.
I made it.
This is just wonderful.
So, this is it here, right?
Yes.
Okay.
Can I put my feet up on here?
Of course.
Yeah.
I can get used to this.
Okay.
So, before we even get to that view, this is so characteristic of you, isn't it?
Sure is.
A dining room that has a water moat around it that you have to walk across.
Yes.
This is one of the things I like to put in all the houses.
It adds interest.
One of the best things about it being in the desert, there's very low humidity.
Okay.
So, adding a water feature inside a house brings in a little bit of humidity to the
inside of the home.
And the better thing, it keeps all the dust out of the house because the dust goes right
to the water feature and then the filtration system filters it out.
That's really interesting to know because I can't stand having dust in my house and
having a moat like that would fix the problem.
Yes.
But, I mean, everything here is just so well-designed.
I mean, it looks as if that's outside, but there's actually a glass doors there, isn't
there?
That's correct.
Which is a real characteristic of your designs.
Absolutely.
Awesome.
And here's the kitchen, obviously.
This is a very big countertop.
I'll say.
If you were entertaining here, this is a great place to...
It sure is.
This is about a 15-foot-long island and it's set up to have all the conveniences, dual
dishwashers, big sink, a secondary sink.
I really love what you've done here with these tiles, these mirror tiles here.
Well, of course.
And these pick up a lot of different colours from the outside.
Let's go and check out Palm Springs.
This is wonderful.
I mean, do we call it Palm Springs here?
I mean, I know we're really in Retro Mirage.
Right.
But it's still the Palm Springs, the greater Palm Springs area.
That's what it's known for.
Yeah.
But here, the views are unlike anywhere else in the desert.
This is the best of the best.
You can't beat these views of San Jacinto and the city light views at night are just
absolutely spectacular.
Just beautiful.
This place is a very unique place because it's perched right up on the hill in Rancho
Mirage and it's centrally located in the desert.
So you're just 10 to 15 minutes away from downtown Palm Springs.
You're also 10 to 15 minutes away from downtown Palm Desert or what we like to call El Paseo
Village.
And we're right in the middle.
So we can get to either end of the valley.
It just screams kind of like that flashy borderline Hollywood Hills aspect where you have these
incredible side to side panoramic views and you're not missing a beat from all the major
rooms.
You've got spectacular views of the San Jacinto Mountains all the way to San Gregorio.
It's panoramic.
It's side to side and you have this gorgeous view of the windmills.
Brian just really pushes the envelope when it comes to designing his homes with the water
features, with the steel structures, with the organic shapes.
It's very warm.
It's very elegant and the design is so unique and modern that it is sought after by any
type of clientele, whether it be domestic, nationally or internationally.
Any buyer who has high class, high taste will love this spectacular modern design proper.
One of the most complimentary elements that you do get included is the membership to the
Ritz Carlton, which is included in your HOA membership.
You get the privileges of the pool, of the spa, of the restaurant.
You get to live the Ritz Carlton luxury lifestyle when you live and you're a homeowner at the
Morada Estates.
So the bar, obviously, is positioned very close to the Master Bedroom Suite.
Well, the bar was kind of set up to be part of the entertainment area.
And a house like this, of course, can entertain at least 200 people.
Really?
No problem.
Really?
Yeah.
It gravitates towards this area for when there's a gathering.
People like to be towards the great room and the kitchen and the bar.
The Master Bedroom Suite has the view as well.
Oh, wow.
Look at how high this void ceiling is.
This is just wonderful.
It has the clear story glass above and a nice big room.
Yeah.
It's a massive sized fireplace.
Wow.
Pockets, lighting doors, great views.
It's got everything.
One of the things I love about your designs is this here, which is the ensuite.
It is just beautiful.
And it's as if you're outside.
Absolutely.
The intent here was to have his and her showers, have the outdoor plunge pool, outdoor shower.
So this is one big suite.
I think, Ed, on those really warm nights when you're really hot in bed, you can always come
out here, jump in the pool, and then go back to bed, and you're nice and cool, right?
Absolutely.
Yeah.
It'd be the perfect, perfect suite.
That's a really clever innovation.
I like to have things more interesting and get away from the conventional square box.
I mean, you can find that anywhere.
Yeah.
And here, with the angles and lines and the ceilings with the angled roofs, it makes the
house more interesting, adds a lot more architectural significance and things for the eye to look
at.
Yeah.
That's something that I like to do with all of the homes is come up with, it doesn't have
to be one way or the other, so why not?
I mean, you can mix curves and straight lines, bold lines, soft lines.
It makes it very interesting for anybody looking at it from any angle, any direction.
So it's just a unique way to design a home.
And of course, to live within the home, it makes it more interesting.
So the house, going on the house to the bedrooms is quite a journey in the sense of it reveals
itself as it goes.
I don't like to make a house where it's obvious where the bedrooms are and things like that.
So here I did this wide hallway with a media room off to the one side here, and then the
hallway leads to a narrower area, and then that transitions off to the secondary bedrooms.
Almost have a feeling of being separate.
This is an entertainer's house, so I mean, you kind of want the bedrooms to be invisible
so that no one's going to accidentally walk down there, right?
Absolutely.
So you've almost like put a barrier that thinks, oh, I shouldn't go past that point.
Right.
Which I think is wonderful.
I really do.
So I mean, how many bedrooms do we have here?
This house has five bedrooms and five and a half baths.
It has a detached guest house, which is two bedrooms and has a living room.
It's just a great way to have it detached from the main house.
It's fully contained.
Somebody has their own key to get in and just enjoy.
It's like their own private area.
We should tell people, no one's living here right at the moment.
No one's living here at the moment.
That's correct.
So the property is for sale.
It is available.
So I guess we need to know price.
I mean, what are we looking at?
What's it going to cost us?
The price is $5,988,000.
Which is great.
And all that view is for free.
All that view is included.
Brian, you've been amazing.
Thank you very much.
Great to see you again.
Good to see you too.
Can't wait to see what you've got next.
Thank you.
