Empowerment is, it goes beyond just feeling safe, it goes beyond feeling beautiful. Empowerment to
me is really living your truth, being able to live your truth, to stand up for yourself,
to speak your mind. That's empowerment. And what I love about being a part of L'Oreal Paris'
initiative, the Stand Up initiative, is that it starts in the street and it's addressing something
like street harassment, which I think is something we, as women especially,
have almost come to take for granted as just normal. And, you know, women and girls all over
the world cannot feel safe just walking on the street. How do we expect to carry demands or
expectations of equality and respect into a workplace or into a home? That's why I love
being a part of this brand. I love being a part of L'Oreal Paris family because it is a brand that
not only has been saying in an iconic way, because you're worth it for 50 years now,
but they have been living and embodying that spirit of femininity and feminism
to the core. They do so with their initiatives, they do so with their choices,
they do so with their spokes. So I feel really honored to be here among such an incredible
lineup of women and men, one man, in order to really embody that spirit and to celebrate that
spirit of femininity and feminism. It's the most beautiful gift that I've ever experienced, and
it has definitely recalibrated my perspective on literally every aspect of my world,
but especially being a woman, raising a girl to be a woman. It's never been more important
to advocate on behalf of female empowerment and women's rights in general, equality in general,
because I want her to come into a world in which she is free to walk down the street without
harassment, in which she can carry that sort of freedom with her when she chooses to wear makeup
or not wear makeup, when she chooses to enter a workplace or a workforce. Motherhood has just
made it all that more important to fight to make the world better for her to inherit.
I can't even begin to unpack all the problems with my industry for women, but I will support
her in whatever she hopes to do and wants to do. I hope that through more initiatives, more awareness,
more campaigns like this, that she will be going into an environment, a society,
a culture that is less hostile to just women and girls. Well, I'm excited because
first of all, I think bold is beautiful. Bold is freedom. Bold is power. That's confidence,
and nothing is more beautiful than that. And what we are doing is we are combining the celebration
of this iconic beauty brand. It's been saying to women and to people, because you're worth it for
50 years, and we're doing so in the place where the Declaration of Human Rights was adopted. And
iconic place, iconic group, family of spokes represent these ideas to their very core.
That alone would be enough. But add to that, we are asking the public to stand up with us,
to stand up and combat street harassment through taking the Stand Up to Street Harassment
lesson online. It's an online platform. You can go investigate five steps, five simple steps,
that will empower women and people, witnesses alike, to combat street harassment. I think
it's really powerful and simple and important.
