Okay, in this video I'm going to carve another small piece. I have my small tool out there.
The piece is already stained. It's leather hard and so I'm using a small music wire loop tool to
do the carving or relief carving with. The pattern, the base pattern, I'm going to set up first.
I have a few light sketches on the stain that don't show up that help me set up the equally
spaced edges and stuff. So anyway, I'm just finishing up the first stage of that pattern.
This piece is a cone 6 clay. It'll be fired in an electric kiln and that stain will turn black
when it's fired and the clay itself is a medium brown or tan. It has about a medium grog in it.
It's not too heavy but it's not a real fine grog either. So I'm doing another stage of the carving
pattern to go all the way around. This piece was thrown on my Pacifica wheel
then it was cleaned up. It's still attached to the bat because I use, primarily I use
countertop material that I've cut and put the alignment pin holes on the bottom of it
and so I use those quite a bit more than more common thin ones nowadays that are pre-made.
So here I'm just doing a little bit of the relief carving for the background to offset the color
and again this will be, it'll be allowed to go to leather hard and then it'll be bisque fired.
Then it'll have a semi-transparent glaze put upon it and then it'll be fired again with cone 6
and that will be it for the part. Just decorative piece of pottery.
